Hi, arriving SFO 16.35 on United and booked on Virgin America to Las Vegas departing 18.00. Am I likely to be able to make that?

Sorry, forgot to say the 16.35 Unitd flight is coming in from Mexico City. Tganks

  • Transfering from United airline to Hawaii airline

We will travel from Dallas to SFO with United then have connecting flight with Hawaii airline. The connecting time is 2hrs. 1) What terminal we will be walking from United to Hawaii airline ? 2) Do we need to re-enter the security ? 3) Do we have enough connecting time ? Thank you

You will arrive in Terminal 3 and depart from Concourse A of the International Terminal. If you have checked bags you will have to claim them from United and take them to Hawaiian. Regardless, you will have to go through security again in the International Terminal. You should have enough time, although barely if you have checked bags.

Thank you for your quick response. Please note, we booked Dallas > SFO (United) > Hawaii (Hawaii Airline) thru United. 1) Do we still need to reclaim the baggages at SFO then re checkin, re enter security at International Gate A ? 2) If we only have carry on, do we have enough time ? 2

If everything was booked through United then you wouldn't have to claim your bags in SFO. You will still have to go through security again in the International Terminal A concourse since it's not connected to anything else inside security. Yes, you would have enough time.

I am flying in from DCA with a 33 minute connection to BUR. As long as my flight is on time Is that doable, even with construction?

The construction is in Terminal 1. It doesn't affect United flights. You have enough time if your flight from DCA is on-time.

If i'm coming in on United international from Sydney, Australia and need to clear customs at SFO with a US passport will 2.5 hours be enough to make it to my United domestic flight to Chicago?

Yes, that should be enough time.

I was told that there is renovation being done in the SAO airport concourses. Which concourses are affected? Will this make it difficult to make a flight connection. I am flying United 1900 Atlanta to San Francisco on March 10 and have 1 hour and 27 minutes ( if we arrive on time)to connect to United 888 to Beijing. Will that work through construction?

The construction is in Terminal 1. It will not affect you. You will arrive in Terminal 3 and depart from concourse G of the International Terminal. There is a walkway connecting them inside security. You have enough time.

I'm flying from Spain to SFO with Turkish Airlines (via Istanbul), and from SFO to Calgary with Alaska Airlines. Is 90 minutes enough time to collect my bags, check in again, security check, etc?

With checked bags on two separate tickets, not I don't think that is enough time. Also Alaska airlines does not fly nonstop from San Francisco to Calgary.

So, I think I'll try another flight from SFO to Calgary, with Air Canada, that leaves me 3 hours to go through all the process. Thanks for your help!

Hi, We are flying from Philadelphia to San Francisco on United connecting to Sydney with a 45 min connection, is this do able?

Yes, that is doable if the flight from PHL arrives on-time. All you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

No need to ask the same question twice.

I'm a non-US passenger. Arriving from HK on CX 10:15 on a Wednesday, taking AA flight at 13:00, is 2 hrs 45mins sufficient to make the connection? Thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time.

We are flying United from Edmonton, Alberta Canada to SanFrancisco..we have 41 minutes between landing and our United flight to Honolulu - is this enough time? Our rep in Canada says it is within regulation, but is it REALISTIC? Thanks so much!

Yes, you will go through US Immigration and Customs in Edmonton. All you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have enough time if your flight from Edmonton is on-time.

  • Toronto ->SFO -> Honolulu

Flying Toronto to SFO (UA 8517 operated by Air Canada arriving T1 @ 9:42AM) and connecting to flight from SFO to Honolulu (UA 1122 leaving T3 @10:50AM). This gives us 1 h 8 m to get from T1 to T3. Do we need to check in security at T3? Do we have enough time?

You will not arrive in Terminal 1, you will arrive in the International Terminal. Air Canada uses both the G and A concourse of the International Terminal. If your flight arrives in G then you can just walk inside security to your departure gate in Terminal 3. If it arrives in A then you will have to go through security again in Terminal 3. You should have enough time.

Ironic. We're on the same flights with you, and I had the exact same question! I'm nervous about a 1hr 8min layover, but Expedia assures me it is enough time. I don't know if it would be wise to attempt a later flight out of SFO, or if I'm worrying over nothing. Are you sticking with the flights, as is?

Yah they tell me I have enough time as well if the flight arrives on time and everything goes well. We were on a later connecting flight but UA bumped us to this earlier one, and now they tell me there is a big fee to change us back to the later flight so I'll stick with this for now.

Exact same situation here. Who knows, these flights are likely to change again before we fly. I looked up SFO online, and they say it only takes 25 minutes to walk the entire loop of the airport. Well, look for the bald guy with a family of four if you wanna say hi!

Apparently we will clear customs first in Toronto and the UA/AC flight will be treated as a domestic flight and arrive T1, not T3...so this should save some time. I also read somewhere UA operates a shuttle bus between T1 and T3 and if we take that we don't need to clear security again. Does anyone know if this still exists? If not, look for the semi-bald guy with family of four. LOL. We can run together.

Sorry meant not terminal G as mentioned in a earlier post.

  • Seoul to SFO to Dallas

I am a US citizen entering SFO from Seoul, South Korea. The UA flight will arrive at 11:15am and my connecting flight will depart at 1:17pm. I will have one checked luggage. Is 2 hours enough time to make it to my connecting flight?

Yes, that should be enough time if your flight from Seoul arrives on-time.

I'm also a US citizen flying from INC to SFO, but have a non-citizen with me and we each have one piece of checked luggage. I'm very worried about our connection time - 1 hour and 32 minutes, SFO to PHX. We're also in the back of the plane. I had a similar situation at LAX, and we (along with a few other people from our plane with similar connection windows) were fast-checked through security and led through the employee sections of the airport to reach our planes on time. I guess my questions are 1) Is the connection doable? 2) What are the chances that we'll be fast tracked? Was that LAX specific or do airports routinely do this kind of thing for International - Domestic transfers with short connection times? Sorry for the novel and thanks for your time! (:

That is a difficult connection and I would say your experience at LAX is unusual.

  • United to Air Canada Connection

Arriving from MCO on UNITED. Connecting to AIR CANADA going to YVR. Will terminals be within security at SFO, or do I have to clear security again in SFO?

Air Canada uses both the G and A concourse of the International Terminal. If your flight to Vancouver departs from G, then you can just walk to your departure gate, but if it departs from A then you will have to exit and re-enter security.

Similarly, I'm flying with United LAX to San Fran (SFO), and then have a 48minute layover in San Fran before my connecting flight to CANADA. I remember the SFO airport is huge and have no idea if united gates will all be in the same area/terminal - is this short layover going to pose a problem?

All United gates are in the same area. Some Air Canada gates are not in the same area.

Swiss air from Zurich to SFO connecting to United to Seattle. Do I have to go through security again? Thx. No checked bags.
