Hi I am flying from Mexico City to SFO with United Airlines arrive 9.30 @ terminal 1 & depart Terminal 3 with United Airlines to Vancouver @ 11.10. Will I have enough time.I flew to Mexico via LAX on the 4th Oct will I have to claer customs again

You will not arrive in Terminal 1. You will arrive in the International Terminal. When you arrive in SFO you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags, go through security and to your departure gate. You have enough time.

  • LAX -> SFO -> HKG with a 1 hr 50 min layover?
    Nov 30, 2015
Hi, I'm arriving in SFO as a layover from LAX. The flight from LAX is a Virgin America flight landing in T2, and my onward flight is 1 hr and 50 min later in the International Terminal with Singapore Airlines. Is this enough time for a connection, and will I need to recheck my luggage in at transfer. The tickets are booked on the same PNR through Singapore Airlines.

Since both tickets are on the same reservation your bags will be transferred for you. All you have to do is take the AirTrain from Terminal 2 to the International terminal, get your Singapore boarding pass if Virgin America can't issue it, and then go through security. You have enough time.

  • Connection SFO to LAS
    Nov 28, 2015
Hi, I am flying on United Air from SIN to SFO and connecting to LAS all on same reservation. When I reach SFO, do I need to clear customs and pick up luggage and check in luggage and clear customs again for LAS? My flight to SFO will arrive at 10:40am, and depart SFO to LAS at 12:30am - enough connection time?

Yes, in SFO you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate in Terminal 3. You should have enough time.

Hi, I will be flying Singapore Airlines from SIN and Arrive in SFO International Terminal at 1125AM. I will take the next flight at 1425PM (3 hours transit) to Calgary on United Airline. As I had purchased a separate ticket on United Airline to Calgary (YYC), I will need to collect baggage and then recheck in at Terminal 3 for my flight out to Calgary. I am wondering do I have the time to catch my flight out to Calgary (3 hours transit) considering I have to clear SFO customs, collect my baggage and then recheck in at UA counter to drop off my baggage again. Is it a long walk from International Terminal to Terminal 3? Thank you!

3 hours should be enough time. Terminal 3 is right next to the International Terminal.

Hi ZAP, thank you for your fast response on this. I have another question. Lets say if Singapore Airline manage to tag and interline my baggage to final destination at Calgary (YYC) although I have 2 different tickets but they are also Star Alliance., what is the procedure? My luggage will be tagged to YYC as final destination and after collection at SFO for custom and immigration, where do I drop the luggage again? Is there are conveyor belt or UA counter for me to collect my boarding tickets and pay and also drop off my luggage? Or I have to pay during checking in Singapore Airlines (SIN to SFO)and also get my boarding tickets for UA in Singapore through Singapore Airline? Apologies for the many questions as first time transiting in USA.) Appreciate you help.

If your baggage is tagged to YYC you will still claim your bags go to through US Customs, then immediately re-check your bags at the re-check desk right after.

  • MNL – SFO – LAS

Hi. I will be arriving from Manila via Philippine Airlines at approx 6:10pm. I'm considering booking a flight to Vegas via Virgin America that departs at 7:50pm. Will I have enough time to catch my flight to LAS or would it be a safer idea to book a 10:50pm flight with United? And will I have to pick up my luggage and check them in again? Thanks in advance. Much appreciated.

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then take your bags to your second airline and re-check them at the check in desk then go through security. I would book the 10:50 flight. The 7:50 flight is not possible.

Thanks for the advice! I guess I'll stick with the short layover rather than chancing a 1.5 hours.

  • International/Domestic Transit

I am flying from Miami to San Francisco (American Airlines) and then onto Sydney (Qantas) next year but not on the same reservation. What terminals do I arrive at and depart from? Do I have to recheck baggage? Do I have to go through customs and security? Is 3 hours enough time between flights?

You will arrive in Terminal 1 or 2, claim your bags, then take them on the AirTrain to the International Terminal where you will re-check your bags with Qantas and go through security. There is no US Customs when leaving the US. You should have enough time.

  • Travelling from Mexico to Seattle

Will 1:30 mins connection time between United flights be sufficient.. Will be flying from SJD, Mexico to SFO and from SFO to SEA 1:30 min later.

That's barely enough time assuming your flight from SJD arrives on-time and everything goes smoothly.

My mother is travelling on Southwest and will arrive at 11 am at terminal 1. She need to get her bags and check-in at United airlines by 12pm. Her flight to Paris is leaves at 2pm. does she have enough time? What sort of transportation is available?

The check in cutoff for International flights is 1 hour, not 2 hours, so she could check in as late as 1 PM and be OK. She has enough time if her Southwest flight is on-time and her bags come out reasonably quickly. However, she doesn't have much time to spare if there is a delay. The AirTrain connects all terminals outside security.

Flying from Vancouver to SFO and then connecting to Houston (IAH) late Saturday night around 11pm. I have 1hr49mins to make the connecting SFO-IAH flight, is that enough time for the connection? Thanks.

Yes, that should be enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Vancouver.

  • Delta to Jet Blue
    Nov 18, 2015
I am arriving on a Delta flight and connecting to Jet Blue with two hours between. Do I need to clear security again? Thanks.

Yes, Delta uses terminal 1 and Jetblue uses the International terminal. They are not connected inside security.

I have a few questions as follow: 1. UA Flight to BKK via NRT from PHX. I have 1:25 connection time. Is that enough? 2. Do I have to go thru security again at SFO to catch ANA? 3. Does UA (Star Alliance Partner) check baggage thru to final destination or I have to claim and re-check again at SFO? Thank you.

You have plenty of time for your connections. You do not have to go through security at SFO - the United gates in Terminal 3 and the ANA gates in the G concourse of the international terminal are connected inside security by a walkway. Your bags will be transferred. You won't see them until you get to Bangkok.

  • I am booked FAT to SFO connecting to YUL on Jan 7, 2016.

I will be Arriving from Fresno on United/Skywest connecting to United/Air Canada with only 55 minutes between flights. Will that be enough time to make the connecting flight?

Yes, that is enough time as long as your flight from Fresno arrives on-time. Air Canada uses both the A and G gates of the International Terminal. if you depart from the G gates you won't have to go through security. You will have to go through security if your flight departs from the A gates.

  • Terminal 3 to International Terminal
    Nov 16, 2015
My daughter will be travelling on her own from SLC to Sydney with United. She arrives in Terminal 3 and departs from SFO - SYD in the International Terminal. She has 3 1/2 hr layover. Will her luggage be checked through to Sydney from SLC or does she need to collect in SFO and re check it for connecting flight? Also, is she best to walk from Terminal 3 to International (Gate G) or take the train?

Her bags will be checked through. There is a walkway inside security from Terminal 3 to the G concourse inside security. It's much better to use that than the train. She has plenty of time.

  • T-1 to International connecting time
    Nov 13, 2015
I have about 2 hours to connect from a Southwest flight from PHX to a KE flight leaving for ICN. Is that enough time?

That's just enough time assuming your Southwest flight is on-time. Keep in mind that you will have to transfer any checked bags yourself.

Hello, we have a flight booked with United Airlines departing Vegas and arriving San Fransisco International for connection of 1hr 34mins, then on to Honolulu. Do you think this is sufficient time? Will our bags be checked right through? Thanks.

Yes, that is plenty of time. You don't have to do anything with your bags. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate in San Francisco.
