Hi! I'm planning on taking UA225 IAD-SFO which arrives at 10:00pm. And then UA1705 SFO-LAX which leaves at 10:32pm, would I have enough time to connect? I'd imagine all the United gates are pretty close to each other. I will be the first few to leave the aircraft. Thanks!

Yes, it is enough time, but you will have to hurry and if you miss it you'll be stuck in SFO overnight as I'm fairly sure that would be the last flight of the day to LAX.

Arriving at SFO from YVR via United Airlines (US1707V) at 8:22 AM and connecting with United Airlines (UA1212V) flight to Puerto Vallarta at 9:17 AM. Any complications such as checking baggage again and having to go through security again?

No, on your way to mexico, you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. All you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which will be connected inside security.

I have a flight, arrive SFO 11:00 am in terminal 3 and leaving SFO 12:05 from international terminal. Do I have enough time for transfer? Thanks.

Yes, that should be plenty of time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which should take less than 15 minutes.

    Great. Thanks

  • YUL-SFO-LAX --> International A or G to Terminal 3 security question

Hi, I'm flying to LAX through SFO from Montreal with Air Canada and then United Airlines. In SFO, I'll have to go to terminal 3 from either International terminal A or G (I don't know which one yet). Will I need to pass through security again in SFO or is there a walkway inside security between these terminals (I will have already passed through US customs in Montreal)? If I do have to go through security again, will I have enough time if I have a 1h30 layover? Thanks

There is a walkway from I-G to Terminal 3 inside security. There is no walkway from I-A, so you would have to go through security if you arrive there. Either way you have enough time.

Do i need to change terminal for aa. If yes do i need to go through all the custom and immigration? If yes do i need a visa or how can i change the terminal. Please advise. I m flying from AUH to SFO to MIA to PAP haiti

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Abu Dhabi. In San Francisco, you will arrive in the International Terminal, you must go to Terminal 1, get your AA boarding passes, go through security and to your departure gate

Terminal 1 is domestic terminal or international termina?

Terminal 1 is a domestic terminal. Your flight to Miami is domestic.

Thank you so much for your great help. Is it connected to the international terminal or not? how much time it takes from international terminal to terminal 1. do i need visa to switch from one to other terminal or not?

It takes about 5-10 minutes to walk to Terminal 1. You need a US Transit Visa for your journey if you do not live in a Visa Waiver country, whether you have to change terminals or not.

My wife and I are flying into and out of SFO with an hour and ten minute layover. We are changing carriers from United to US Airways, and likely changing terminals. Will we have enough time to make the connecting flight?

Also we are flying Friday the day after thanksgiving

It's probably enough time. Not a lot to spare.

I'm hoping to take a 9:30am United flight out of Vegas, landing at SFO at 11:16am, followed by an international SQ flight which is due to depart at 2:05pm. Is this doable? We will have luggage with us and not sure United will be able to check our bags all the way through to Singapore (which is our ultimate destination). Thanks!

Yes, that is possible. You'll have to ask the United agent in Las Vegas about the bags. Have your Singapore confirmation on-hand.

I'm arriving at 9:30am on a Southwest flight. How long (if our bag come out in a timely manner) will it take me to get from there to the International Terminal using the Airtrain?

I imagine you could be in the International Terminal sometime between 10 and 10:15.

    Thank you! :o)

What is the absolute minimum time one can arrive at SFO for a 12:05pm International departure on Cathay Pacific ? Will already have Board Pass in hand, and no luggage. I've seen some passengers who are late for a flight be allowed to the front of the line for security. Of course will get to the airport ASAP, but have an appt in San Francisco and need to know what my cut-off time is. Thanks

You would probably be OK if you arrived at the airport between 11:20 and 11:30

hello, i will be on United flight from ICN Seoul to SFO to Sacramento. i arrive in SFO 11:30am then 1:55pm united express/skywest flight to Sacramento. will 2hr 25min enough time to make it? i do have two checked bags. after going through custom where do i go to check-in my bag again? my flight is skywest united express. Thank you for your help!

You will be able to re-check your bags immediately after you clear US Customs at the transfer desk. Then you will go to the departure level, through security and to your departure gate. You have enough time.

Thank you for the answer! looks like skywest is gate 84. how far is that from customs? do i need to take a train or is that walking distance? Thank you again

    It is walking distance.

hello. :)) so I d have a question for you. I d fly from san dieg to san francisco and then I d have a tarnsfer to Frakfurt. and what do you think, to get from the terminal 3 to terminal 1, 50 mins is enough? would you take that risk? thank you for your answer. :)

No flights to Frankfurt leave from Terminal 1. Both Lufthansa and United flights to Frankfurt depart from the G concourse of the International Terminal which is directly connected to Terminal 3 by a walkway. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

ah okay thank you. when I tried to book the fligh I saw that on their site.. term 1 and so.. but hey in my case, would u take that risk?? because I have to decide and I wanted to be sure, to hear the opinion of others.

If there's a reasonable earlier flight from San Diego I'd probably pick it instead, but I would say the connection as it is is still reasonably low risk.

im concern with my baggages since i buy the ticket separately, UNITED might not help me to interconnect the baggage to the final desination. how to i go about it?

You will have to pay to check your bag at your origin, then claim your bag from United, then take it to the Singapore Airlines check-in counter in the International Terminal. You will need at least 90 minutes, preferably 2 hours to make such a connection.

Claim baggage from United is it the same level as to walk the connected walkway from gates 75 to international G? Cos my parents are eldery to handle 3 checkin baggages. Worry they might be lost in the big crowded airport. Thanks

TThe Baggage claime is on the lower level and Singapore check in counter will be on the upper level of the adjacent building. There are elevators and escalators though.

  • Departing International Flight

My flight arriving from SLC with departure from SFO to Taipei has been reduced to about a 1 hour layover from 11:03pm to 12:05am from originally about two hours. Any ideas if this would be enough time to check in through the international terminal?

Did you purchase tickets separately or together? What airlines are you flying?

I bought them together through Orbitz. I ended up calling Orbitz. I decided I didn't want to stress about missing an international flight and they rebooked for an earlier flight. I now have a six hour layover in SFO. Thanks for your reply.

I come in at gate 66 and have a 30 minute connection. I have to get to gate 86. Considering they close the doors 15 minutes before departure, is this enough time?

They usually do not close the doors 15 minutes before departure. Your connection is doable but really requires that your first flight be on-time.

    Thank you

I am flying into SFO from SIN via Singapore at 1115hrs and I have a connecting flight to PHX via United at 1247hrs. The layover is about 1 hr 37mins. Is there enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time. Once you arrive in the International Terminal, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, and re-check your bags at the transfer desk. Then United's Terminal 3 is directly adjacent to the International Terminal.

Thanks, Zap, for your reply. I apologise for making some errors in the previous question. I am flying into SFO from SIN via Singapore Airlines at 1115hrs. I have a connecting flight to PHX via United at 1247hrs (booked separately). The layover is about 1 hr 32mins. I hope that there is enough time. I accessed United's webpage and note that similar connections all an all-United itinerary eg. ICN-SFO-DEN or ICN-SFO-ORD has layovers as short as 1hr 26 min! These are all International flights into SFO airport with a subsequent domestic connection.

You need to ask the Singapore Airlines agent in Singapore if they can tag your bag through to PHX by showing your United confirmation. If they do, so, then you can drop your bags at the re-check counter and proceed directly to security if you get your United boarding pass online before leaving Singapore. Otherwise, you will have to take your bags to the United counters in Terminal 3. With having to clear US Immigration and Customs, you may arrive too late to check your bags in that case. If you are not checking a bag, you should be OK, just be sure to check-in online for your United flight before leaving Singapore.
