If I get a ticket on UA to AKL on their website flying into SFO in UA834 arriving 0937 to and flying out in the evening on UA917 departing 1045pm. Will my bags be checked through in LAS all the way to AKL so I can go around San Francisco for the day without my check in bags?

You have to claim your bags in SFO when entering the US in order to go through US Customs. If everything is on the same reservation you can then re-check them at the re-check desk. If it's a separate reservation you have to take them to the United check-in desk.

Hi, I am travelling with BA and arriving to SFO International terminal at 2PM. I have a connecting flight with United at 4.15PM (2h15m) from Terminal 3. I am wondering if I will have enough time to go through the border, customs, re-check my luggage and board in the next flight... Additionally, I was wondering if I could print my UA luggage tags in London to speed it up, by dropping my luggage on the international exit? Any help would be much appreciated!

No, you won't be able to get your United bag tags in London. You will have to take your bags to T3 to re-check them. This is a very difficult connection, probably impossible unless the BA flight arrives early.

  • Connect from Jetblue to Cathay

Flying Jetblue from FLL to SFO on Wed, scheduled to arrive SFO 11pm. Then I have SFO to HKG on Cathay Pacific next morning at 11am. SFO websites indicate both Jetblue and Cathay Pacific gates inside International terminal. But I assume I still need to exit terminal, check in at counter, pass security then back to Cathay gate normally? Anyone know if I can just walk to Cathay gates and get check in done there without exiting? I am Asia Mile member and brought ticket on cathay website so assume I can check in online but how about luggage drop off? Can it be done at gate? The first domestic flight has on time average of 59% and severe weather forecast next Wed for SFO, hence my anxiety. Plan to stay overnight inside SFO since it's only a few hours apart. Any advice on how best to made sure I can made the connection will be greatly appreciated as I'm attending a funeral in HK.

Yes that is correct, you also won't be allowed through security until the morning and you won't be able to check your bags until the morning.

Thank you! In the worst case where my first flight is cancel and I take the next available flight that arrive SFO at 10am. Can I just ran from Jetblue gate to Cathay gate? (since it looks like it's inside the same terminal) Assuming I don't have luggage to check in and I able to check in online before the flight?

Yes, if you don't have checked bags you can do that.

Arriving from Orlando fl @ 9:28 pm flight depart @ 10:20 to Singapore can I make the connection. Thank you. CK

If both flights are on the same reservation that is enough time. You just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I am arriving in SFO from FRA with an LH flight (operated by UA). Ticket says I am arriving at Terminal 1, but I am not sure if that is actually the International Terminal concourse G (which I thought is used by UA). Anyway, I continue to SAN 2h later. Is that enough time to pass through immigration, get my luggage, pass through customs, re-check my luggage and get to my SAN flight (Terminal 3). There is nothing that I can change about it now, but knowing that I at least have a chance would make my travel less stressful. thanks!

Yes, it's an I not a 1. You arrive in the International concourse G. You have enough time.

Many thanks! That helps me a great deal. Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed that my flight from FRA is on time.

I booked the flight on united web , from TPE to san Francisco with 2:30' connect flight to IAD , right now they changed it to 2hrs for connection to IAD , I do not know I do have enough times to going through immigration and custom .....we all U.S citizen

the code for San Francisco is SFO, not SAN. 2 hours is still enough time for your connection.

hey y'all! I have a 45 minute layover from my flight to SFO which connects me to my final destination at palm springs, is that enough time to get to my next gate once I land? this is my first time traveling and i am very nervous.

Where are you flying into SFO from? What airlines are you flying?

I am flying from Atlanta on United airlines. I'm scared I'll miss my connecting flight

All you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time if your flight from Atlanta is on-time.

  • 54mins is enough connection time from SFO- SEA by UA?

Flight schedule on 14th Feb is from 6:55am (IAD) to 1:12pm(SEA) by UA. There is 54 mins layover at SFO with plane change. Is this 54mins enough time to connect other flight in terms of the same airline? As far as i know, if there is connection time with the same airline i don't need to go to baggage claim. Is this right?

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Super Thanks! What if the schedule is delayed, my time will be without doubt whole problem?

Your flight could be delayed up to a half hour and you'd probably be OK. If you miss your connection you'll be rebooked on the next United flight to Seattle.

  • Domestic flight changing into international flight with United Airline

Hello, I am German-passport holder. I will fly from Orange County with United Airlines to SFO Airport. I have 1,5 hours to get my connecting flight with United Airline back to Frankfurt. Will that be enough time to get my connecting flight?

I just found out that I'll arrive at T3 and my departure is at T1... that means I have 1 hour and 50 minutes to get my connecting flight! Would that be enough time?

Yes, that is plenty of time. You don't depart from Terminal 1. You depart from the International Terminal (specifically concoiurse G). There is a walkway connecting T3 to concourse G. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have plenty of time.

Thank you very much for the helpful information!!!

I'm coming from Frankfurt heading to Kahului OGG stopping in San Francisco for 4hrs transit. The label on the luggage says OGG. Shall I collect the luggage in SF for custom check & redrop?? Do you think 4hrs are enough for passport control, custom check & luggage redrop ping?? Please advice

    Non US citizen

In San Francisco you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate. You have plenty of time.

  • Enough time

I landed from Manchester, England at 15:15 into terminal 1 and my flight to LA departs at 17:45. That should be enough time to pass customs and board my flight?

You arrive in the International Terminal. What airline are you flying to LA? Do you have checked bags?

The flight to LA is with delta, I will have checked bags aswell

If the first flight is on Virgin Atlantic that should be enough time. If it's on Thomas Cook that will be pretty difficult.

Yeah I'm flying in with Virgin Atlantic, thanks for your help it's put me at ease now.

  • Connection time enough? IAH (Houston)->SFO->PVG(Shanghai, China)
    Jan 6, 2017

I will fly through all United Flights: IAH (Houston)->SFO->PVG(Shanghai, China), but only 1 hr and 10 min connection time in SFO, is enough to pass the custom and proceed to board the international flight? Thank you!

There is no US Customs when leaving the US. All you have to do in in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. There is a walkway connecting Terminal 3 where you arrive to Concourse G of the International Terminal where you depart. You have enough time.

I'll fly from Veracruz to Taiwan. I'll go through the US immigration in Houston, then layover in SFO at 12:55 pm , then the last connection from SFO is at 13:40pm. Will it be enough to catch my connecting flight within 45 minutes? Thank you!!

45 minutes is enough time but leaves no time to spare if the flight from Houston is delayed.
