You will re-check your bag after you go through immigration then you need to go back through security - You have to do this any time you enter the US from abroad. You have enough time.

You will arrive at SFO's International Terminal (TI), where you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance, and thereafter, with bags in tow, take the Red-line of the AirTrain (an automated people mover) to one of the two currently operating Terminals 1 or 2. 4+ hours is plenty of time to make any transfer.

Many flights from YVR arrive in Terminal 3 (since you will preclear US immigration in YVR), if that's the case you won't have to change terminals or go back through security.

You are right..... I will be on United Express, which would be arriving at Terminal 3 and not at SFO International Terminal as I thought, eventhough it is an international flight from Canada. Thanks very much for your prompt reply!

You arrive at the International Terminal (IT or TI) where you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag: Onward passengers will exit Arrivals Hall through dedicated doors indicating 'Connecting Flights', where they will re-check in bags at the baggage desk directly outside of the exit. However, if you need to take your bags along to check them in with Frontier, you may have a problem time-wise. Your connecting flight with Frontier is in Terminal 1, which has Boarding Area B (gates 20-39). The Blue-line of the AirTrain (automated people mover) serves all terminals, making a continuous loop and taking only minutes between stops. On arrival at T1 you need to go though security check before proceeding to your gate.

You will arrive via United at SF at Terminal 3 and depart via Air New Zealand at the International terminal. Your bags will be automatically transferred as both airlines belong to the Star Alliance. Domestic passengers transferring from T3 to the International Terminal may transfer via a connector walkway (located post-secuirty near gate 75) to the International Terminal's Boarding Area G arriving at post-security near gate G92. On arrival at SFO, Terminal 1, you need to take the Red-line of the AirTrain (an automated people mover), which serves all terminals & the garage on a continuous loop and takes only minutes between terminals. Signs will guide you. At Terminal 2, which has Boarding Area D (gates 50-59) you need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate. Your checked bags will be automatically transferred. You have enough time.

As one member of your group arrives via Southwest at the international terminal - where he/she needs to go through passport check, pick up bags, go through customs first, I suggest you all meet up at the baggage claim level - close to the information counter. To get there, the red-line of the AirTrain (an automated people mover) serves all terminals & the garage, making a continuous loop taking only minutes between stops (baggage carts have hand brakes and can be taken onto the AirTrain); however, you can also walk to your connecting terminal: walking around the entire terminal loop would take 25 minutes.

On arrival at SFO in T3, head for the Red line of the Airtrain (follow signs (pre-security). Your next stop is T2 then T3. Airtrain runs on a continuous circle around the terminals and takes minutes. On arrival at T1, go through security check and on to your gate (B boarding area gates 20-39, C boarding area gates40-48). Hurry!

Actually, United offers a shuttle between Terminal 3 and Terminal 1 that stays INSIDE the Security zone. You don't have to take the train and you don' thave to leave Security. Two hours should suffice for you to go through passport check, pick up your bags, go through customs clearance and re-check-in your bags (if Air New Zealand is transferring bags to Terminal 2 - if not, you need to take your bags along and check them in at T2 before continuing on to your gate!) International to Domestic Terminals: To connect to any of the domestic terminals, take the AirTrain's blue or red line at either station A or G below the Main Hall.

I am flying to San Francisco Terminal 3 on United Airlines on an International flight (at 1936) . I have local connection flight(at 2120) in 1 hr 30 mins, is that enough?
