  • Koea (ICN) to SFO to CLE transit time enough?

My family members would arrive from ICN (Korea) to SFO at 11:25 am, Saturday, July 30. They have 1 hours and 50 minutes for transfer to CLE departing at 1:17 pm on the same day. Would this transfer time be enough for their immigration, baggage claim, re-bagging, and security check? Their carrier is United all the way to Cleveland. I am very concerned......

Yes, that is enough time if everything goes smoothly.

I am looking at booking a flight with United from YVR to OGG with a 53 minute layover at SFO. Once at SFO, do I need to go through security to get the connecting flight to OGG and is 53 sufficient time to get to the connecting flight?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. All you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

I have a 1 hr 16 min layover on flight UA 1604 from Honolulu to SFO, and then SFO to Munich. Will there be enough time to get to the gate?? This is the ONLY connection that allows to to make another connection out of Munich. Thoughts?

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

United wants to route me from PHX to SFO to connect with one of their flights to Hawaii (LIH). My question is, if the Phoenix flight is scheduled to depart at 7AM and arrive in SFO at 8:01AM, would I have enough time to make the connection to the 9:00AM United flight to Hawaii (59 mins)? Seems tight.

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Hi -- I am arriving on an American domestic flight from CLT at 12:42AM in terminal 2, and then connecting to a JAL flight to Tokyo in the international terminal at 1:55AM. It's a single reservation. Am I right that I need to go through security again? Is this enough time?

Yes, you will have to go through security again. You should have enough time if your flight from Charlotte is on-time.

Do I need to go thru security again if I am coming in on a United flight from Medford, OR and then on a Delta flight to Los Angeles?

Yes, you have to go through security again.

I'm hoping to purchase a hidden city ticket by flying only the Mexico City to SFO and not the trip to San Diego. I'm wondering if I'll have the opportunity to collect my bags at SFO? They are both booked on 1 ticket with United.

Yes, you will have to claim your bags in SFO to go through US Customs. Remember that you can only do this if it's the last flight of your reservation.

I'm not a US citizen. Tickets bought with United (all flight on the same itinerary) My plane lands in SFO from Auckland, NZ at 6:30am with United (normally at Terminal G) and my connecting flight to YUL is with Air Canada leaving at 8:00am (also normally at Terminal G). There is no US customs pre-check at AKL airport. Do I have to go thru immigration, customs and security or I can walk to my gate freely? If I have to go thru immigration, baggage and customs... is 1h30 enough to go thru all the process? Thanks!

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, and go through security. You have just enough time if everything goes perfectly.

All righty then... I'll prepare my running shoes... Thanks!! :)

  • YYZ - ORD -SFO - HND

Hello, I'm flying from Toronto to ORD with a 1 hour and 6 minute layover, then from ORD to SFO with a 1 hour and 15 minute layover to HND (Japan). Just wondering if these two connections give me enough time to make my flights, and whether or not I will need to re-claim my baggage at all? This is all done through United Airlines. Thanks in advance!

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. You don't have to do anything with your bags in Chicago or Toronto and all you have to do in both connections is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time for both of them.

I am flying from Orlando to San Francisco to Singapore with United. There will be a terminal change for the San Francisco - Singapore flight. Will I have to go through security again for San Francisco-Singapore flight?

No, there is a walkway inside security between Terminal 3 where you arrive and concourse G of the International terminal where you depart. You just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Thank you. Would 1 hr 39 mins be enough time for my checked in luggage to transfer to Singapore flight?

Yes, that should be plenty of time.

Hello, flying UAL from Chicago O'hare arriving at SFO at 8:37am and transferring to a Hawaiin Airlines flight on to Maui leaving at 9:55am. All airfare is purchased via a single UAL ticket. Seems like Hawaiin departs from the International terminal boarding area A. Will there be enough time to transfer in 1 hour 18 minutes time?

That's just enough time if your United flight is on-time. You will have to go through security again to get to Concourse A.

My daughter will be arriving tomorrow for a summer camp; its first time she flies on her. She will be flying southwest. She will arrive at Terminal 1 & needs to pick up her luggage & get to Terminal 2. What is the easiest way for her to do this?

The easiest way is probably to walk.

  • Southwest to Virgin America

My daughter is arriving on Southwest and I am arriving on Virgin America. It doesn't look like she can come to the arrival gate to meet me. Do you have a suggestion where we should meet? She might only have to wait 20 minutes if both flights are on time. Thanks!

I suggest the Terminal 2 baggage claim or the AirTrain station in Terminal 2.

Thanks! Since we'll only have carry ons and are planning to take BART, I think we'll plan on meeting at the Air Train station in Terminal 2. Are there benches where she can wait for me?

  • YEG - NRT

Hi ZAP, I am permanent resident in Canada. I hold Thai passport and has a valid US VISA (class B1/B2). United Airlines offers a flight from YEG to NRT; that is YEG -> YYC 1h 5m layover -> SFO 1h 20m layover -> NRT). I believe there is US preclearance in YEG, and also my baggage should be transferred all the way to NRT as all flights are booked in a single transaction through 3rd party. However, I am kind of worry about 1h 20m connecting time at SFO. Do I have to go through any additional immigration/custom/baggage or anything else? Does 1h 20m make sense to you at all? I read through your answers, but want to make it clear about my situation. Appreciated any suggestion you can give me.

Following statement on flysfo.com is what troubling me. "Please note connecting passengers exit into the airport's public area and are required to clear security prior to boarding their next flight." Thank you.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Calgary. All you have to do in SFO is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. There is a walkway from Terminal 3 where you arrive to the International Terminal where you depart that runs inside security. That thing on the website refers to travelers who clear Immigration and Customs in SFO.

Thank you. Your answer is very helpful :)

Hi, Im holding a Philippine passport, travelling from Singapore to SFO on July 19 (9:15 arrival) via United Airlines. On the same day (12:20 ), I have a coonecting flight from SFO to Houston via the same airline. Then from Houston to New Orleans.. 1) I just want to know the procedures I need to take in SFO airport given my 3 hrs. waiting time before my flight to Houston. I understand I need to go thru immigration check, but how about my luggage transfer? Do I need to check-in to UA counter or just in transit lounge? 2) While in Houston Airport, I only have 1 hr waiting time before my flight to New Orleans. Is that enough knowing I still need to go thru passport control and immigration and customs check? Do I need to check on my luggage as well? 3) On July 24, I will fly back to Singapore from SFO. From Houston to SFO, then I only got 1 hr waiting time before my flight to Singapore. Would that be enough?

In SFO you will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, and go through security and to your departure gate in Terminal 3. In Houston all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Again on your return all you have to do in both Houston and SFO is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have plenty of time for all your connections.
