  • LAS-SFO-ICN Virgin to Singapore Airlines; 1:20min layover
    Jul 19, 2014

Hello and thanks for any help! I am flying from Vegas to San Fran on United, and switching from Virgin to Singapore Airlines for a flight to Seoul Korea (ICN). Never flown thru SFO...do Virgin and Singapore have a sea where I can have all my tickets/checked baggage good to go? Or is 1:20 min not going to be enough??? Thanks!

SORRY!!!... typo: Vegas to San Fran on VIRGIN!!! my bass... =/

Virgin America and Singapore Airlines do have an interline agreement, so if you show your SQ confirmation to the Virgin agent in Las Vegas you should be able to have your bags transferred to Singapore and you won't have to do anything with them in SFO. You will just have to go from your arrival terminal to the International Terminal, get your Singapore boarding passes if you don't already have them, and go through security. 1:20 will still be difficult to do all that.

Hi there, we are flying ICN-SFO (United) arr 11:30am connecting to SFO-YYC (WestJet) dep 2:00 WITH DOG (Westjet desk is aisle 6 international terminal) The SFO-YYC passenger is not US citizen so must go through all the checks and everything. Will he have enough time, including re-checking in the dog for the

With the dog, it will be very difficult.

It depends what airline your first ticket is on. If they have a close relationship with AA, that agent may be willing to tag your bag through to AA if you show your AA confirmation or boarding pass. If so, then you can re-check your bags in T5. Otherwise you will have to take them on the ATS to Terminal 3 to check them with AA.

I'll be coming in on SAS..how do I find out if they have a close relationship with AA.... and thanks for the information

  • YYZ-SFO-HNL - is 1 hour 45 min enough at SFO?
    Jun 22, 2014
    4
I bought a ticket through United, YYZ to HNL via SFO. Typically, USA customs is pre-cleared at YYZ. What is concerning is that I'm arriving at SFO at the International Terminal by Air Canada (code share with United). In that case, do I clear customs at SFO? Do I still need to pickup my checked luggage then drop it off again? Does that leave me enough time to catch my next flight at Terminal 3 in 1 hour 45 min? TIA

You will go through US Customs at YYZ & should not have to arrive at international terminal, but at either T1, 2 or 3. The AirTrain's red line connects these terminals.

When I flown to SFO last time (2010), Air Canada landed on Terminal 3. Now, Air Canada seem to be using the International Terminal (as per flight itinerary). Has anything changed in the last few years? I always cleared customs at YYZ when going to US. I need to know if 1 hour 45 min or LESS is enough (the on-time arrival history is shady) or I need to take earlier flight to SFO. TIA

Yes, you will arrive in the International Terminal but you will still pre-clear at YYZ. Your arrival into SFO will be like a domestic flight. The International Terminal and United's gates are connected by a walkway inside security.

Thanks for the info. Great to know that I do not need to clear customs at SFO. I'm hoping that Air Canada lands at the Boarding Area G. I'd assume that my baggage will be transferred from Air Canada to United automatically?

I arrived at terminal 2 domestic from JFK with AA. I had a connecting International flight to Manila with PAL. Luggage booked straight through, but had to check in at PAL counter to collect my boarding pass. Missed my flight as only 1 hour transfer time not sufficient. Gate closed. Please what is the official transfer time needed for this flight.

  • Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 secure walkway
    Jun 10, 2014

I am flying from SFO to LAX from Terminal 1 in Southwest and my friend is arriving in American airlines in Terminal 2 around same time. Is there a secured walkway (after security check) between Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 in SFO airport. If I have to get out of security check point, I may not be allowed to enter into Terminal 2 with Terminal 1 Boarding pass (Southwest). Does anyone know if it is possible to walk inside from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2?

Where are you coming from? No flights to Pittsburgh use Terminal 4. What airlines are you flying?

I'm flying with delta I called them they said I fly into terminal 4 jfk and depart from terminal 4 to Pittsburgh I'm flying in from Heathrow. Never done this before and I'm with 2 kids on my own.

    All flights are delta

You will arrive in Terminal 4. There you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs and re-check your bags with Delta. Then you will go up to the departure level, there you can go through security and then take Delta's shuttle bus to Terminal 2 where your flight to PIT will depart. Or you can take the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train from T4 to T2 (one stop) then go through security in T2 and to your departure gate. You should be given all your boarding passes in London. Whatever that person told you about your bags is wrong. You should have enough time if your flight from London is on-time.

  • SFO to IAd to DXB - customers where?

I am flying from sFO to IAD and then on to DXB via united. Do I go through customs in SF? My flight check says terminal 3 which is a domestic terminal. In IAD, which terminal do I go to?

You depart SFO via United at Terminal 3, which has Boarding Area E, gates 60-69 & Boarding Area F, gates 68-90. You will arrive at IAD at Concourse C/D (C & D gates) United uses both Concourses and a connecting walkway is between them. Look at overhead screens to find your connecting flight & gate number.

Thanks. I guess I still don't where I go through customs - if at all.

You will go through UAE immigration when you get to Dubai. You do not go through US Immigration when leaving the US.

You will go through UAE Immigration/customs when you get to Dubai. Nothing in the US.

I arrive on ANA on International Terminal at 9:30 am and connect to Alaska Airlines at Terminal 1 at12:55 pm. will I have enough time to go through immigration/custom to recheck my baggage with Alaska ?

Yes, that should be plenty of time.

  • Getting from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2

I will be arriving on an international flight from Auckland (UA) and need to get to Terminal 2 for a VX flight to IAD. I have 2hrs connectiion time. What is the fastest way to get to the terminal 2

International Arrivals at SFO who connect to another flight will first go through passport check & pick up their bags; onward passengers will exit Arrivals Hall through dedicated doors marked 'Connecting Flights', where they will re-check in bags at the baggage desk directly outside of the exit. If no agent is available there, or bags are not tagged to its final destination, visit your airline's ticket counter first. To connect to T2, take the AirTrain's red line at either station A or G below the Main Hall. 2 hrs transfer time is sufficient.

Please note that United does not fly to Auckland and that your flight is likely operated by Air New Zealand.

    Thanks a lot

  • IAH to SFO to ICN

I am flying from IAH through SFO connecting to ICN. I am scheduled to arrive at 9:44am and flight departs for ICN at 10:50. United airlines with bags connected through to ICN. Sitting in first class to SFO so will be first off. Can I make this connnection?

You arrive at Terminal 3 - look for signs to AirTrain, board the train to the International Terminal, where you need to go through security check and on to Boarding Area A (gates 1 - 12). Your transfer time should suffice.

Ignore saapr. You DO NOT have to go on the airtrain! United has a secure-side walkway between Terminal 3 and their portion of the International Terminal.

Thanks for the information. So I don't have to clear security again, right? Sounds like I should make it if that is the case. I could go for the flight two ours later but would rather not.

Yes, if you use the walkway you will not have to go through security again.

  • Traveling with toddler: getting from the Intl terminal to Terminal 3
    Apr 8, 2014

We will be arriving at the International Terminal with a toddler and need to get to Terminal 3 (UA). Our baggage is not ticketed through to our US destination so we'll be pulling those along. What's the best way to get to Terminal 3? AirTrain? or just walk?

It depends where you come out of the International Terminal, walking and the Airtrain would probably take about the same amount of time.

I am planning to travel to Houston and there is a connecting flight from Vancouver, BC to San Franciso, CA with a 45 min layover between United flights. Is that enough time? Will the flight from Vancouver arrive in the same terminal as the connecting flight leaving SFO?

Almost all United flights at SFO now use Terminal 3, so they will probably be the same terminal and 45 minutes is enough time to make that connection. You will pre-clear US Immigration in Vancouver.

  • Enough time?

Can I make a connection between a United flight and an American with 45 minutes in between?

It will be very hard, even if you have no checked baggage. If you have any chance to make it you need to check in to your American flight online before you depart on your first flight.

  • 37 min connection time - Terminal 1 to Terminal 3

I will be flying into Terminal 1 in SFO and flying out of Terminal 3 - both flights on United Airlines with a 37 minute connection time. Is that enough time? What is the fastest way to get to terminal 3 - walk or shuttle? will I have to go through security again? Thanks.

You will barely have enough time. Take the shuttle, you will not have to go through security. However, note that not many United Express flights use T1 anymore as they recently opened more gates in T3.
