  • term 3 to intl terminal connection

We are travelling to Toronto connecting through SFO from Maui. We only have 1 hour - we arrive at terminal 3 (united) and depart from the Intl Terminal on Air Canada. Do we have to go through customs or security? Do we have enough time? Any hints would help. thanks

    1. Only international arrivals need to go through security check at US airports (with exception of some participating Airports - Toronto has a US. customs clearance - use it on your way back to save time at SFO. Note that the International Terminal has boarding areas A, gates 1-12 and area G, gates 91-102 on either side of a 2-level Main Hall. A secure connector allows passengers, transferring from domestic flights in Terminals 2 & 3 to international flights in Boarding Area G, to walk directly to their new gate without having to exit and re-enter security or ride a shuttle bus between the two buildings. If your departure is in Boarding Area A, you need to take the Red & Blue lines of the AirTrain, an automated people mover and connecting the terminals in the unsecured areas - you would need to go through security check again. One hour will suffice.

Is there a secure connection from the International terminal to Terminal 3 after rechecking bags? is it required to exit the terminal and then go through a security check again?

Which is the quickest way to get from the international terminal to terminal 2, how long lay over time do I need and must I go through all the security checks again

    1. Open www.ifly.com/san-francisco-international/terminal-map - which has detailed terminal & transfer information below the map. 2. As an international arrival you need to count on 30-45 minutes of customs clearance & re-checking in your bags. 3. Thereafter take the AirTrain's blue or red line at either station A or G below the Main Hall to Terminal 2, which takes minutes.

Anyone know how long it would take to get off Terminal 1 and get to International Terminal G? I have one hour to switch from Frontier to ANA. I think we should walk it.

At T1 take the red-line Airtrain to Boarding Gate G - just follow signs.

I will be going from Terminal 2- American to Terminal 3- United in March with less than an hour of time. Can I do this without going through security? Is there construction that affects this? What is the best way to get there? Thanks

Take the Red Line of the AirTrain - which makes a continuous run between the terminals.

What is best way to get from terminal 1 to 3? my friend has a connector flight at 11:04 tonight and her plane just landed. She is from Canada, does she have to go thru customs too?

Some major Canadian Airport have U.S. customs clearance, in which case she merely needs to take on arrival the Red & Blue Line of the AirTrain - an automated people mover, which connects the terminals.

Got a 2 hour layover at SFO, terminal 2. Any suggestions for a late lunch or early dinner?

Try Andales. Pretty good mexican, and right near all the main gates.

I am flying from Vancouver (would have gone through U.S. Custom in Vancouver) arriving at terminal 1 at 14:31 and have to transfer to terminal 3 to fly to Santa Barbara. Flight leaves at 15:48. Is one hour 17 minutes adequate, giving allowance for arrival delay of say 15 minutes, air train ride time, security check again at Terminal 3? If not, what is the minimum time I should allow myself so that I can make the connection?

Terminal 3 security, even for first class, has been horrible since Continental moved in with UAL. In 4 of my 5 most recent trips, wait has been > 20 min. in the "elite" line. It was so bad last time, I got into the "regular" line at the Continental side of the terminal.

Wait times have gotten worse at SFO since the construction changes. I waited over well over 15 minutes in Oct 2011

I have 1 hr connection flight from SFO to ICN. Would walking be faster or taking the AirTran at SFO? Plus would I have to go through security again when arriving at the International Terminal?

Upon arrival, follow signs to the secure connector, which allows passengers, transferring from domestic flights in Terminals 2 & 3 to international flights in Boarding Area G (gates 91-102), to walk directly to their new gate without having to exit and re-enter security. If your departure gate is in Boarding area A (gates 1-12) follow signs. (A & G boarding areas are on either side of the Main Hall).

Hi anyone of you now how to transfer from International termianla to terminal 1 as I am taking another flight from terminal 1. Do I need to customs clearance and re-check-in?

    1. As an international arrival you need to go through passport control, pick up your bag, go through customs clearance and re-check-in your bag. Then board the red or blue line of the AirTrain to Terminal 1, which has boarding areas B and C.

  • Fantasy wait times

I fly often out of SFO on United, American, Delta. Wait times shown here are ridiculously low. It's usually at least 10 minutes, sometimes more than 20. Even if they are including wait times for airline/security personnel (which they shouldn't) the private contractor reporting to the TSA is wildly under-reporting the wait times.

Wait time at Terminal A is *not* max of 12 minutes at 8am since Virgin moved in. My last three times have all been 20+ minutes. One time was 35 minutes. Do not make plans based on the above wait times. They are fantasy.

These wait times are wildly inaccurate. I wait over an hour at SFO routinely. I am not sure what line these people are tracking, but these are not the wait times at SFO that I have encountered.

I have to get from the international terminal to terminal 3, do I need the security check again ?

    1. Note that all international arrivals must first go through passport control, collect their bag, go through customs clearance and re-check-in their bag before transferring to another flight. 2. To get to Terminal 3 you can use the short connector between Boarding Area G and Terminal 3 and its F gates. You can also take the AirTrain's blue or red line; but then you need to go through security check at T3.
