  • International Terminal to Terminal 1 (Alaska Airlines)

Hi, we are traveling home from Abu Dhabi on Ethiad Airlines arriving at 7:30am. We have a connection to Portland leaving at 8:25am. Will we have enough time?

Are the flights on one reservation or two separate reservations? What airline are you flying to Portland?

They are on two reservations. Alaska is the airlines to PDX. We aren't checking baggage.

Then without checked baggage you can make this actually both flights will be in the International Terminal concourse A and you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Abu Dhabi, so as long as you check in online for your Alaska flight before leaving Abu Dhabi all you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Thank you so much! You are VERY helpful!

  • Time needed for International flight to connecting domestic flight

We are coming from London arriving in SFO on British Airways at 5 PM. I am wondering if 2.5 hours is enough time to make my second flight to RDM on United Airlines?

That should be just enough time if everything goes smoothly. Note that you'll have to take your checked bags yourself with you to Terminal 3 to re-check them with United if the flights are on separate reservations.

Hello...flying to Sydney through San Francisco...I have 1 hour and 10 minutes from landing to syndney flight departure...will I have enough time to make the connection...flying in from Atlanta on United....

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. There is walkway inside security from T3 where you arrive to concourse G of the International Terminal where you depart.

Is 1hr. 47mins enough connecting time for a domestic -> international flight at SFO? I am arriving from PDX at 5:18pm and departing for FRA at 7:05pm

If both flights are on United/Lufthansa that is enough time. Otherwise, you need to post what airlines you are flying for help.

Both flights are on the same booking reference for United. Thanks!

Hi, I am traveling on a swiss passport from frankfurt to sfo with connection for portland. I ve got 1:45h. One reservation with Lufthansa. will I have to run? Do I have to re-check la bagage? Thanks!

You will arrive in the International Terminal, Go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate in Terminal 3. You have just enough time if everything goes smoothly. Your flight to Portland will be operated by United.

I'm flying from PDX to SFO Terminal 1 and then flying out from the International Terminal. Will I have to go through security at the International Terminal? I'm ticketing on Alaska to SFO and Aeromex to Mexico. Where will my Passport be validated?

Alaska flies into the International Terminal as well. Are you purchasing your tickets on one reservation or two separate reservations?

Hi, I am flying United Airlines from Singapore to O'hare with a transit in SFO (Arrival at Intl' Terminal G). I have a 2.5 hour window between my arrival into SFO and my departure to ORD (Departure at Terminal 3). I understand that I'll have to go through customs and immigration as well as re-checking in my luggage. Would 2.5 hours be sufficient enough of a time to do all this? Thank you!

Yes, that should be enough time if the flight from Singapore is on-time.

All Domestic Flights. My flight from Seattle arrives in the International Terminal because it is going international next (SEA-SFO-PVR AS 222). I have to go from INTL A to 1-C or 2-D. (not sure yet). I have an 1hr 31min, Will I have to go through Security again? I'm transferring to American from Alaska. WILL I MAKE IT? PLEASE RESPOND!

Yes, you will have to go through security again in your departure terminal. You should have enough time as long as the first flight is on-time.

  • Transfer time

Hi, we are arriving on a Qantas flight from Sydney at 9.30am and have booked a Virgin America flight to Las Vegas at 11.30am. These are separate bookings. How do we transfer and is this enough time? Thanks

No, that isn't enough time. Since you made two separate bookings you need to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, take the AirTrain to Terminal 2, re-check your bags at the check-in desk and go through security.

  • Dubai to Las Vegas connecting SFO (Return Ticket - same booking)

Hi, Below is my planned itinerary for October travelling to Las Vegas for a conference from Dubai and connecting flight in SFO with Virgin America Emirates & Virgin America: 1 EK 225 07OCT DXBSFO DK1 0910 1400 07OCT 2 VX 918 07OCT SFOLAS DK1 1905 2035 07OCT 3 VX 903 14OCT LASSFO DK1 1115 1250 14OCT 4 EK 226 14OCT SFODXB DK1 1645 1925 15OCT I need your advise what to do when I get to SFO connecting to domestic flight in T2 from International Terminal A (Emirates), I have around 5 hours layover. Return is with Virgin America and have almost 4 hours layover to transfer from T2 to International Terminal. Do I have to collect checked baggage and rechecked it again? Do I have to go through Immigration and Custom clearance in SFO again in my return to Dubai?

You will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the AirTrain to Terminal 2, get your Virgin America boarding passes if Emirates couldn't issue them, then go through security. On the return all you have to do in SFO is take the AirTrain from T2 to the International Terminal, get your Emirates boarding pass if you don't already have it, and go through security. There is no US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US.

Thanks for the response. I was told here that upon return from Las Vegas to SFO I need to claim my baggage from Terminal 2 and rechecked it again according to 2 different travel agency. I called Emirates but I was told to ask from the check in counter here in Emirates about it further to that the call center agent said that I can ask Virgin America check in desk in Las Vegas upon my return to check through my baggage to Dubai. In any case, if ever I have to collect my baggage in SFO in my return from Las Vegas to Dubai, is 3 hours and 40 mins enough time to get to the gate in International Terminal? Granting I won't go through customs or immigration in SFO.

I have a united flight from Calgary to Auckland There is a San Fran connection of 2h 10m I assume bags will be transferred though. Will that be another time go through security and customs? Thanks

You don't have to go through security or customs in SFO. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Calgary and there is no US Customs when exiting the US. All you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Enough time for Connecting?

Hi, I am arriving in SFO flying Qantas at 9.30 am and need to connect to United Airlines to John Wayne airport at 11.55am. I have 2 bags checked in. Will that be enough time to make the connecting flight? Thanks

If it's on two separate reservations it's barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.

Thanks ZAP. May need to consider moving the flight later on in the afternoon

I fly into SFO at 7:45 on United, and my connecting flight leaves for YYZ at 9:30 on Air Canada. We made the reservation at the same time, but I wasn't sure if checked bags would transfer over, or if we would have to claim them and re-check them. If so, would there be enough time?

Yes, your checked bags will be transferred - yes you should have enough time.

    Okay, great! Thank you ZAP
