Traveling into SFO on AA then to Bandon, OR on United Express. Will I need to exit and re-enter security from Terminal 2 to 3?

Yes, you will, they are not connected inside security.

  • Is 2 hours enough time from International to Donestic?
    Jul 12, 2016
Hi I am arriving into SFO on Air NZ at International from Auckland at 12.45pm My next flight is on United to Redding at 2.45pm. Is this enough connection time if I have to recheck in? Do I have to change terminals? Thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time. You will arrive in the International Terminal and depart from Terminal 3 which is next to it. If both tickets are on the same reservation then ANZ should be able to check you in through to Redding in Auckland.

Thanks for the input. I am actually flying to SFO one United reservation using points and then using a separate United reservation from SFO to Auckland, NZ. The EWR flight arrives 3 hr 15 min before departure of teh AKL flight. Since separate reservations, I will need to claim bags and then check them for teh SFO-AKL flight and then clear security. Think enough time?

I am arriving in SFO from NZ at 12.45pm on NZ Airlines. I am intending to book a flight to Vancouver on the same day.How much time do I need to allow to collect baggage etc so that I can comfortably make the flight to Vancouver? Do I need to go through customs before boarding the flight to Vancouver?

There is no US Customs when exiting the US. If you are booking two separate reservations I'd want 3 hours. If on the same reservation 2 hours is possible.

  • Staying inside security

I am arriving at SFO on United Express and depArting to Houston on a United flight. Will I have to leave security and renter to do this or is it all within the sane terminal?

Both are in Terminal 3. You do not have to go through security.

  • Transfering Through SFO to MEL
    Jun 7, 2016
My wife and I are heading to MEL from YVR via SFO and AKL. Do you know if we'll have to collect our bags in SFO or will they be forwarded on to our final destination? Flying AC to SFO Air New Zealand the rest of the way. Thank you.

You will not have to claim your bags in SFO. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver.

    Thank you!

  • OGG to SFO; SFO -YVR Final destination YVR
    Jun 4, 2016
Hi I am travelling with my family and we have a 1yr old. We have a 1hr20 lay over in SFO before arriving at YVR. We are flying with United. Do we have to go and get our baggage at the baggage claim, recheck it and go through security again? Just trying to prepare. Do we have enough time to make our next flight home? thanks!

You should have booked your baggage all the way to Vancouver as that is your final destination. When you land at SFO and with such a short layover do not leave the secure area. Check your gate for the next flight. There is a break are in the middle of the Terminal where you can relax before boarding and also look at the local displays in Terminal 3.

All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have plenty of time.

  • International to Domestic,2 separate reservation
    Jun 3, 2016
Hi, I booked a flight from Hong Kong to SFO with Cathay Pacific arriving at 4:30, and booked another separate flight from SFO to San Diego leaving at 7:00 with southwest. I have two checked bags. So the question I have is 1) do I have enough time? 2) for the checked bag, what should I do? They are booked under different book and different airline. 3) should I go to "connecting flight" exit? 4) where is the southwest gate for check in and what gate will Cathay pacific usually arrive at?

    4:30 pm and 7:00 pm

No you will not follow the connecting flight signs. You will have to take your bags with you to Terminal 1 to re-check with Southwest then go through security. You will arrive in the A concourse of the International Terminal.

I've seen this question asked several times, but I just wanted to make sure I got the right information. If I fly in from Newark on a United Airlines flight, will I have to go through security to get to the international terminal to make my connection? And if so, would 1 hour be enough time? It is all on one tickets so I wont have to pick up checked bags

No, you don't have to go through security. There is a walkway inside security from Terminal 3 to the G concourse of the International Terminal.

Hey I hope someone can advise me. Ill will be flying from Montreal(YUL) to SFO , I then have a connecting flight to MNL. My layover is 1h42m is that enough time? And what procedure would I need to go through(rechecking baggage, security, etc) Thanks for the responses

What airlines are you flying? Are your tickets on two separate reservations or one reservation? I can't answer your question without that information.

I'll be taking Air Canada then Philippine Airlines. They are both on the same reservation.

Then all you have to do in SFO is walk from one side of the international to the other, get your Phillipine Airlines boarding pass if Air Canada can't issue it, and go through security. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal.

We have purchased a ticket thru united that connects (arrives at 8:37am) in SFO and changes airlines (Hawaiian to OGG) with only 1hour 18min in between. Is this doable?? (all on one reservation)

It's difficult as you will have to change terminals and go through security.

My wife and I are flying with a 4 year old and a 2 year old from PDX-SFO-FRA on United from PDX-SFO and then Lufthansa from SFO-FRA. We have 1 hour and 40 minutes between the 2 flights in SFO. Our questions are will this be enough time and what will we need to be doing in that 1 hour and 40 minutes, ie. going through customs, security, baggage etc...

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. There is no US Customs when leaving the US.

  • LAS to SFO connection
    Jun 2, 2016
Hi, I know this question has been asked in various forms several times, but I specifically wanted to know if flying from LAS on United, I arrive at SFO at 9:06pm and then have a separate (international) flight on Qantas leaving at 11:25pm to Sydney, AUS. Is this enough time? I understand that the baggage will need to be collected and rechecked as the flights were booked separately. Any help very much appreciated! Cheers, Hugh

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • Enough time
    Jun 2, 2016
My wife will be going from HNL to SEA flying United airlines on both flights. Will she have enough time to get to her next flight? She's traveling with my three boys. I have a set of 5 yr old twins and one 2 yr old. She has 1 hour to get to her connecting flight is this enough time? Will she be in the same terminal?

One addition question. If she goes through another terminal will she need to go through the security check point again?

Yes, that is enough time. All United gates are connected inside security.

  • Inquiry on SIN-SFO international to domestic SFO-DEN flight
    Jun 2, 2016
Hope someone could advise if a 2h35min connection time is sufficient from catching a flight change from international to domestic transfer - I plan on flying in from Singapore to SFO( reservations all made under United), and then catching a domestic transfer to Denver,CO. Additionally, I am not clear which terminal I would be taking to depart to Denver but would you say that all domestic terminals are within walking distance from the international terminal? Do I have to go through any customs after landing from my SIN-SFO flight to get to my connecting one to DEN? Are there any additional information i should be aware of? Thank you in advance for anyone who can help ! :)

Yes, that should be enough time. You will depart from Terminal 3, which is right next to the International Terminal where you arrive. Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, walk to Terminal 3, and go through security. You have enough time.

Hi ZAP, thank you for the prompt reply ! A clarification with regards to going through US customs and re-checking of bags at the desk once I land in SFO- I was under the impression that since my flight reservation is made all under the same booking under United (round-trip), wouldn't my baggage automatically be transferred to my connecting flight from SFO-DEN without having me to re-check it in, especially if I state that the bags should be checked all the one to it's final destination to Denver ? Just needing to clarify, as I could be wrong. Thank you if you can help ! :)

Your bags will be tagged to Denver but you HAVE to claim them in SFO to go through US Customs. you then immediately re-check them at the re-check desk right after.

Thanks ZAP :) You've been a great source of help ! Cheers!

  • LAS to SFO to AUK
    May 29, 2016
I'm flying from LAS to SFO on United Airlines, and arrive at SFO at 8:22 pm. I have a flight from SFO to AUK on Air New Zealand that departs SFO at 9:45 pm. That's an hour and twenty minutes in between. I'm under the impression that I won't need to re-check my luggage or go through customs at SFO, and that it'll be fine. But it's worth double-checking, because if I need to do something about it, I have time to sort it out if I start now.

no need to re check bags or go through customs. All SFO international flights leave from the international terminal. Will be about a 10 or 15 min. walk and all terminals are connected inside.
