I am a US citizen entering SFO from Seoul, South Korea. The UA flight will arrive at 11:15am and my connecting flight will depart at 1:17pm. I will have one checked luggage. Is 2 hours enough time to make it to my connecting flight?

Yes, that should be enough time if your flight from Seoul arrives on-time.

I'm also a US citizen flying from INC to SFO, but have a non-citizen with me and we each have one piece of checked luggage. I'm very worried about our connection time - 1 hour and 32 minutes, SFO to PHX. We're also in the back of the plane. I had a similar situation at LAX, and we (along with a few other people from our plane with similar connection windows) were fast-checked through security and led through the employee sections of the airport to reach our planes on time. I guess my questions are 1) Is the connection doable? 2) What are the chances that we'll be fast tracked? Was that LAX specific or do airports routinely do this kind of thing for International - Domestic transfers with short connection times? Sorry for the novel and thanks for your time! (:

That is a difficult connection and I would say your experience at LAX is unusual.

  • United to Air Canada Connection

Arriving from MCO on UNITED. Connecting to AIR CANADA going to YVR. Will terminals be within security at SFO, or do I have to clear security again in SFO?

Air Canada uses both the G and A concourse of the International Terminal. If your flight to Vancouver departs from G, then you can just walk to your departure gate, but if it departs from A then you will have to exit and re-enter security.

Similarly, I'm flying with United LAX to San Fran (SFO), and then have a 48minute layover in San Fran before my connecting flight to CANADA. I remember the SFO airport is huge and have no idea if united gates will all be in the same area/terminal - is this short layover going to pose a problem?

All United gates are in the same area. Some Air Canada gates are not in the same area.

Swiss air from Zurich to SFO connecting to United to Seattle. Do I have to go through security again? Thx. No checked bags.

I am coming in from Toronto, Canada and will be flying to Sydney, Australia. My connection time is 1h21m...is this doable?

What airlines are you flying? Are your tickets on one reservation or two separate ones? I can't answer your question without that information.

Toronto to San Fran with Air Canada Connection to Sydney with United

Yes, it's doable. You will arrive in the A or G concourse of the International Terminal and will depart from the G concourse. If you arrive in G you just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. if you arrive in A you will have to cross over to the other side and go through security. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto.

I am wondering...arrival time into SFO is 0730. Departure time to OGG (Maui) is 0800...seems kinda tight for time, but are the gates close and do you think it is doable?

Yes, it's doable if the first flight arrives on-time. If you miss your connection due to a delay there are later flights to Maui you can likely be rebooked on.

I will be flown from San Francisco to Hong kong but the connection time is only 1 hour 30 minutes, I wonder would it be too tight?

Are both tickets on the same reservation? What airlines are you flying? Where are you flying after you arrive from Hong Kong?

I take United on both trip. Hong Kong is my final destination. I am not sure if I need to go thru "Security"....

If your first flight is domestic then you don't have to go through security in San Francisco, just walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

1 hour 30 minutes layover should be okay?

If that's the case then, yes, it should

    Thank you so much!

  • To Zurich on Luftansa via SFO

I am flying in from Reno on SkyWest (United Express) with a 51 minute layover in SFO for flight to Zurich on Lufthansa. Bags will be checked through from Reno. That seems a little tight to me-- is it possible? If not, would it be possible if we got pre-check registered for security?

You don't have to go through security in SFO. You just have to walk from your arrival gate in T3 to your departure gate in concourse G of the International Terminal. There is a walkway between T3 and G inside security. You have enough time if your flight from Reno is on-time. Also, if you are flying nonstop to Zurich that flight will be operated by Swiss, not Lufthansa.

  • How long is security at SFO terminal 3

How long is security at SFO terminal 3 and is there a TSA pre separate line for expedited security. We have just 1 hour to depart Hawaiian air in international terminal to get to our United flight in terminal 3 bound for ORD Will we have any time to spare?

There is PreCheck in Terminal 3. If you have Precheck and your Hawaiian flight arrives on-time and you don't have any checked bags to transfer you should be OK.

I have seen a lot of questions on this one, but not the recommended connection time from international to a domestic, separately ticketed flight. Istanbul to SFO landing at 4.30 p.m. and on to San Diego on Southwest. Many thanks.

You need a minimum of 3 hours.

    Many thanks!

  • 39 minutes connection

I'm travelling from O'Hare to SFO, and then from SFO to Las Vegas. I'm sitting at the front of the plane to SFO. Is 39 minutes enough for a connection?

It is enough time if the flight from ORD arrives on-time. All you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 3.

Please help! I was wondering if 1hr 20 mins layover is enough time to switch planes in San Francisco before heading to Hawaii. We are coming from Toronto so I don't know if we have to go through customs as well. Thank you!!

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. In SFO you just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Air Canada uses both the A and G concourse of the International Terminal. If you arrive in A you will have to go though security.

Thank you! So I am assuming that the airport is small enough to get there in time. Where would you pick up your tickets for the transfer flight?

You should be issued both boarding passes in Toronto.

  • LV - SFO - Dubai

Hello - we are travelling from Las Vegas to SFO and onto Dubai. Tickets will be reserved separately on Jet Blue & Emirates. There is 3 hrs 40 mins between flights. Couple of questions please; can we check the bags all the way through? Do we have to clear customs/immigration or just transfer between Domestic - International terminals? LV is a side trip from SF. If we leave some extra luggage at the Left Luggage facility at SFO do we need to exit the airport to collect it & then go back through security/immigration? Thanks so much for your help - great forum :)

No, you will not be able to check your bas through. No you do not have to go through Customs or Immigration in SFO - there is no US Immigration when leaving the US. You will have to exit the secure area, claim your bags from JetBlue and collect any left luggage, then take it to the Emirates check-in desk to re-check it to Dubai. Then go through security. You should have enough time.

Hi, we will be flying from DCA to LAX with 50 mins layover at SFO by Virgin America. Do we have enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. You just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Southwest to United Connection time
    Jan 12, 2016

How long does it typically take to get from Terminal 1(Southwest arrive at 3:55pm) to Terminal 3(United departing at 4:15pm) if I only have carry on luggage? Would I have to go through security?

This connection is impossible. You will have to go through security in Terminal 3. You need to change your Southwest flight to an earlier one if you have already booked this.

  • Time to catch connecting flight

I will be flying in from New Orleans with lax as a stop over en route to sfo. There is only an hour and a half between the two flights. Will I have enough time to reach the gate and which terminal will it be in. I am travelling on southwest

Southwest uses Terminal 1 in LAX. They use Terminal 1 at SFO as well. 1.5 hours should be plenty of connection time.

Thanks so much for your quick response!

  • SFO connecting flight to NYC

Hi, I am flying into SFO from Sydney, Australia on a QANTAS flight and arrive 9.30am. I need to book a connecting flight to NYC and was wondering how much time I would need to leave between flights?

If you're booking two separate reservations I would want 3 hours between flights.

    Great. Thanks so much!

What about if you're not on 2 separate reservations? What is the minimum time you would allow to transit from, say, Qantas from Sydney onward to O'Hare on American on a single ticket. Not what is comfortable, but what is generally possible. Assuming also that the passenger has Global Entry and a checked bag
