  • connection from terminal 3 to international terminal

My parents have a international flight departing from SFO, If i book a domestic flight which will depart from SFO terminal 3, let's say United, can I pass the security and take the walkway to international terminal, meeting with my parents and walking around? After they take their flight, i will return to terminal 3 and take my flight to NYC. will that work? Because my parents don't speak English, i just want to be with them before flight departing. if it doesn't work, do i have other options? Thanks!

Yes, that will work as long as your parents are flying an airline that uses concourse G of the International Terminal, there is a walkway connecting Terminal 3 and Concourse G inside security. Concourse A of the International Terminal is not connected to anything else inside security.

thank you very much. their airline is AirChina. i think it uses concourse G.

Yes, Air China does use concourse G

  • Enough time to make our SAS connection

We will be flying into SFO form Redmond OR on United Express with a scheduled arrival at 4:20 pm. Our SAS flight to Copenhagen leaves at 5:30 pm. Is that enough time to get from the United Express terminal to the International terminal?

Yes, SAS uses concourse G of the International Terminal, which is connected directly to Terminal 3 where you will arrive inside security by a walkway, so all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate in San Francisco.

  • Domestic Connection - 39 minutes

We had our United connection time to Redmond from Orlando shortened from 3 hours to just 39 minutes. I have never flown through SFO before so I wasn't sure if that is enough time to move between arrival and departure gates - I believe they will both be out of Terminal 3.

Terminal 3 isn't that large, it should be enough time if your flight from Redmond is on-time. If it's delayed you will probably be rebooked through another United hub.

flying in from London (terminal 1Lufthansa) then to Acata (terminal 3 United). Do I have to take checked in bags thru customs at SF? how do you transfer from Terminal 1 to 3?

Lufthansa does not fly from London to San Francisco. If your flight is nonstop it will also be on United. You will arrive in concourse G of the International Terminal., go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go to Terminal 3 (it's right next to where you will exit customs), then go through security and to your departure gate.

Please advise whether I have to do one more security check before or at Concourse G of International Terminal (for Seoul bound flight on United) after arriving at Terminal 3 from Calgary by United.

There is a walkway inside security between Terminal 3 and the G-gates of the International Terminal. You do not have to go through security.

Hi, I'm flying from San Diego to SFO on Virgin America, then on to Guangzhou, China on China Southern. My flight arrives at SFO at 10:45 am (in Terminal 2 I think) and I depart at 12:10 (from international terminal A, I think). The trip was booked online, all in the same transaction, but I'm not sure if we will have to check in with China Southern once we get to SFO. Will 1 hour 20 minutes be enough time to deboard, transfer to the international terminal, check-in, go through security, and get to the gate? Any experience with how long it takes to get through security would also be helpful! Thank you!

If everything was booked in the same transaction you should have to check in again and your bags should be automatically transferred. You should have enough time.

To clarify you should NOT have to check in again.

  • YvR to SFO to KOA 49 min connection enough?

Hi I'm flying into SFO from YVR (Vancouver, BC) arrival at 8:26am. The connecting flight departs at 9:15am to Kona, Hawaii. Both flights are with United. Is 49 mins enough time to make the connection? Do I have to go theough security again at SFO? Thanks.

No, you do not have to go through security again in SFO. You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Vancouver. All you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 3. You have enough time if your flight from Vancouver is on-time.

Why do you have to go thru Security and mag and bag to get to Term 3. Surely in this day and age we can do better.

Because there is no room for Air Canada in Terminal 3 or the G concourse of the International Terminal.

Hi, I'm a Canadian citizen. I'm flying to ICN (Seoul) from YVR (Vancouver), and am going to be transferring at SFO. I'd like to know if I would have to collect my baggage at SFO and drop-off them to ICN. Also, what are the specific procedures I'll be experiencing at SFO for transfer to ICN? Thanks!

As long as both of your tickets are bought on the same reservation then you do not have to collect your baggage at SFO. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. If both of your tickets are on United or United and Asiana, then all you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate in Terminal 3 to your departure gate in the G concourse of the International Terminal - there is a walkway inside security connecting them.

  • Domestic - United to Virgin Terminal in 1 hour

My first flight from San Diego to SFO with United lands at 1:50pm, and I have to make a connecting flight from SFO to Las Vegas with Virgin by 2:50pm. I won't be checking any bags, just carry-on. Do I have to go through security again since I will still be traveling domestically? Will I have enough time to make my second flight?

Yes, you will have to go through security because Terminal 3 and Terminal 2 aren't connected inside security. You shouuld have enough time if your flight from San Diego is on-time.

  • Help please comparing two connecting flights

Flying to Paris on United from SFO at 2:40 pm. I have a choice of two connections from LAX, both United. The first arrives SFO at 12:35 pm, but, per Google Flights, "often delayed 30+minutes". The second option arrives SFO at 1:28 pm, but has no notation about delays. Which would you recommend?

I would opt for the first flight. The lack of notation on the second flight is probably because it is new.

UA schedule changes have reduced my SFO connection time to 1hr 30 min arriving from Sydney and changing to Houston flight, all on UA. I have Global Entry and will be checking a bag. Is this doable? Thank you

With Global Entry that should definitely be possible.

  • Pre-clear in Dubai for SFO?
    Jul 22, 2015

Hi again, does the DXB to SFO flight require customs in US, or is it now done in Dubai? Trying to make a 3:00PM Delta flight to LAX... is this possible, or should we go for the 5:00 PM flight? Thanks!

Dubai does not have preclearance. You will have to go through US Immigration and Customs in San Francisco.

My wife and I will be arriving SFO at 13:15 on Emirates 225 (business class). Can we make the 3:00 PM Delta flight (first class) with two checked in bags?

On two separate itineraries? It's possible but will be very difficult.

Arriving at SFP at 8:30pm on United. Taking Jet Blue at 9:19pm. Is that enough time to make the connection? Will have to pick up luggage at carousel.

Spelling Error below. Arriving at SFO at 8:30pm from Hawaii on United. Taking Jet Blue at 9:19pm. Is that enough time to make connection? Will have to pick up luggage at carousel.

With checked luggage this is impossible. It will be impossible to claim your baggage and get it to the JetBlue check in counter before the bag check cutoff.

I was afraid of that. Thanks for your imput.
