  • From Toronto we will connect in San Francisco

Do we need to clear security again in San Francisco?

It depends where you are flying to and where your flight from Toronto arrives. what airlines are you flying and where are you going from SFO?

Our final destination is Manila via Incheon Korea. From Toronto we are flying Air Canada to San Francisco then we take Asiana to Seoul & finally to Manila

So you could arrive in Concourse A or Concourse G of the International Terminal - Air Canada uses both. You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Toronto. If you arrive in Concourse G all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which will also be in concourse G. If you arrive in concourse A, then you will have to walk over to the G side and go through security.

Hi I am coming from Edmonton to Denver to San Fran to Hong Kong. Layover time from San Fran to HK is 58 minutes. I was wondering if there would be enough time? Flying through United Airlines. Thanks.

Yes, that should be enough time. All you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All United gates are connected inside security.

I am flying from Vancouver to SFO Air Canada and then continuing to Narita with ANA, do I need to get my luggage in SFO and then re-check or it will go through? Additionally, can I visit Centurion Lounge in Terminal 3? I have US passport

You won't have to claim your luggage in SFO. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. Terminal 3 and the G concourse of the International Terminal are connected inside security. So you could use the Centurion Lounge.

Hi! I am flying from Vancouver to SFO on a United flight that is operated by Air Canada, then connecting to a United flight to Houston and then Roatan. When I arrive in SFO, do I need to pick up my bags, recheck them and go through customs or security? I will be arriving at 10:30 pm and departing at 12:43 am. Will that be enough time? Thank you!!

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. All you have to do in San Francisco is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have plenty of time.

    Thank you so much!!!

  • Connection time at SFO to Kahului 2 hours
    Feb 19, 2016
I will be traveling with United from Frankfurt Germany landing at SFO at 14:40 and then need to catch the flight to Kahului also with United at 16:45. Will the 2 hours be enough? Thanks

Yes, that should be just about enough time.

Thanks. Would our luggage get checked in all the way through to Hawaii, or will we need to pick it up and check it in again?

It will be tagged to Hawaii, but in San Francisco you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.

I am flying in on UA to SFO to connect for another UA flight to Vancouver. Do I need to clear Customs and Immigration in San Francisco? How much time is needed to make the connection? Thank you.

Yes, in San Francisco you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US CUstoms, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. I recommend at least 2 hours.

Arriving with united from Canada and have 40 minutes to connection flight to Lauderdale in same terminal. Enough time?

Unless you are coming from Victoria that is enough time as long as your first flight is on-time.

  • LIH to SFO to YYZ
    Feb 15, 2016
Please help me in my plan. to reduce layover time- 2 separate bookings with checked bag. Arriving SFO from LIH on United @ 2105 hrs. (I assume at F wing). Depart SFO to YYZ on Air Canada @ 2300 same day. 1) Pls confirm United arrives F wing, AC leaves G wing. 2) Is the time to retrieve bags at United, recheck them at AC, and make it through int'l security a) ample b) barely enough, or c)"you're-cutting-it-too-close-for-comfort-jack" ? Conservative estimate appreciated in case United flight delayed a bit.

Yes, you will arrive in the F gates. AC leaves from both G and A wings. You should have enough time to claim and re-check your bags if your flight from Lihue is on-time. There is no such thing as "International Security". Everyone goes through the same security. I would consider it "barely enough" time.

    Thanks ZAP!!!

  • LAS-SFO-OGG short connection
    Feb 14, 2016
Hi! I have a connecting flight from LAs Vegas with virgin america arriving in SFO at 8:25am and my flight to Kahului with hawaiin airlines departs at 9:55 so I only have 1hr and 30 min connection time. How far does it take to transfer from terminal 2 to international terminal? and what is the best way to get there quickly? thanks.

The best way is on the AirTrain. You can make this if you don't have checked baggage or if your bags are checked through to Hawaii.

My daughter is flying by herself for the first time. She wants to fly from Philadelphia to Seoul. United has a flight that goes Philadelphia to San Francisco to Seoul. She must transfer in San Francisco for the connection to Seoul. She only has 50 minutes to catch the connection to Seoul. Is this enough time?

Yes, that is enough time if her flight from Philadelphia is on-time. All she has to do in SFO is walk from her arrival gate to her departure gate.

    Feb 10, 2016
I have only "38 minute connection time" in SFO to HNL. Do you think is it possible to transfer?

    What airlines are you flying?

i flying with UA ! Thanks

Yes, in that case you should have enough time as long as your flight from Vancouver is on-time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. All you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Enough time to catch an international flight?
    Feb 8, 2016
Hello, I have a flight from San Francisco to New Zealand leaving 7pm with Virgin Australia. Would a Delta flight from Salt Lake City scheduled to arrive at 4.20pm leave me enough time to catch the international flight? (2 hours, 40 minutes)

Yes, that would be just about enough time. You will have to change terminals and go through security.

  • Traveling from New Zealand to San Francisco then to Seattle
    Feb 10, 2016
How long does it take to disembark from the plane once landed in San Francisco go throug customs and get to a connecting flight to Seattle, I have been allocated only 2 hours to achieve this Is this enough time ????

That should be enough time if both tickets are on the same reservation.

Similar routing, but starting from Europe. We will arrive around 1pm, but we will have two separate tickets. Don't know yet whether we can check our baggage trough or not. 4:10 with UA seems to risky, but the 5:30 should be alright?

  • Tight connection
    Feb 5, 2016
Hi, arriving SFO 16.35 on United and booked on Virgin America to Las Vegas departing 18.00. Am I likely to be able to make that?

Sorry, forgot to say the 16.35 Unitd flight is coming in from Mexico City. Tganks

  • Transfering from United airline to Hawaii airline
    Feb 4, 2016
We will travel from Dallas to SFO with United then have connecting flight with Hawaii airline. The connecting time is 2hrs. 1) What terminal we will be walking from United to Hawaii airline ? 2) Do we need to re-enter the security ? 3) Do we have enough connecting time ? Thank you

You will arrive in Terminal 3 and depart from Concourse A of the International Terminal. If you have checked bags you will have to claim them from United and take them to Hawaiian. Regardless, you will have to go through security again in the International Terminal. You should have enough time, although barely if you have checked bags.

Thank you for your quick response. Please note, we booked Dallas > SFO (United) > Hawaii (Hawaii Airline) thru United. 1) Do we still need to reclaim the baggages at SFO then re checkin, re enter security at International Gate A ? 2) If we only have carry on, do we have enough time ? 2

If everything was booked through United then you wouldn't have to claim your bags in SFO. You will still have to go through security again in the International Terminal A concourse since it's not connected to anything else inside security. Yes, you would have enough time.
