  • Terminal 1 to Intl Terminal - Security?
    Jan 5, 2015
I'm flying in April into SFO with US Airways into Terminal 1. I have 50 minutes to connect to a Hawaiian airlines flight that leaves out of the International terminal (not sure why since it's a domestic flight). Will I have to go thru security? Will I have enough time? Should I walk or take the airtrain? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

BTW ^^ I will not be checking any luggage.

You barely have enough time if your first flight is on-time. Walking will probably be faster, but it's probably about the same amount of time. You need to check-in for your Hawaiian flight online before you leave on your first flight.

I arrive at terminal 3 gate 90 SFO where I then have to change to the international terminal; I have 1 hr and 11 minutes to change. Do I have to go through security?

If your flight is a United or star alliance flight from the G concourse of the International Terminal, then no, you do not. There is a walkway inside security.

  • Enough connection time?
    Jan 3, 2015
Hi. I'm flying into SFO on United 1292, scheduled to arrive at 10:04am. My next flight is United 893 scheduled to leave at 11:00am. Is that enough time to make the international connection?

If your first flight is domestic then that is enough time. There is a walkway between Terminal 3 where you will arrive and concourse G of the international terminal where you will depart inside security.

  • Can I get the connecting flight?
    Jan 2, 2015
Hello ZAP, it would be great to get some help here! I am flying from Sacramento to Düsseldorf. First, I will arrive at 10:00 in SF and the next flight going from SF to Chicago departs at 10:45. Do I need to go through security again, or put differently: is it enough time? Thanks a lot!

No, you do not have to go through security again. Just walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Both will be in Terminal 3. If your first flight is on-time you'll be OK.

  • Chicago - San Fran - NZ
    Jan 2, 2015
Hi, Im on a flight from Chicago in Feb to San Fran, connecting to a flight to New Zealand. Is 1 our 50 mins sufficient time to get orm one flight to the other? All booked one one ticket so luggage etc checked in all the way through and boarding passes for both flights issued in Chicago so I don;t think I need to go through security again at SFO? Any advice?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You have the procedure correct.

Pilot just announced SFO ground stop. Weather appears fine. Any info on cause of stop and how long it is expected to last?

  • do I have enough time to get through security at SFO?
    Dec 29, 2015
Hello, my flight out of Sacramento (8:30) has been changed to 9:05. I am connecting to an international flight leaving SFO at 11:11. Will I have enough time to get through security at SFO?

If both your flights are on United then you don't have to go through security. There's a walkway inside security between the United Terminal and the G concourse of the International Terminal.

Thanks ZAP...you're the best. Yes...both flights are with United. I was going to ask you about that walk-way. I saw it on the SFO map but wasn't sure if I had to go through security. Another question then I stop bothering you...Do all domestic United flights (including the small propeller planes) come into terminal 3?

Yes, earlier this year some United Express flights used Terminal 1, but now they have consolidated all flights in Terminal 3.

  • Do I have enough time?
    Dec 29, 2015
ZAP...I need your help. United keeps messing with my departure times and things are starting to look a little tight. I'm flying in from Monterey on a propeller commuter plane early in the morning. Then I have exactly 2 hours before my next flight takes offs. Its an international flight to Cancun. You think I'll have enough time to get to that flight? Thanks in advance ZAP!! Steelhead

Yes, that should be plenty of time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate which are connected inside security.

is it realistic to book and make a connection between arriving from dubai on emirates (13:10) and connecting to virgin america flight to san diego 2 hours later at 15:15? i have a UK passport thanks

Booked together it's doable. Booked separately, it's difficult.

Hi! I'm planning on taking UA225 IAD-SFO which arrives at 10:00pm. And then UA1705 SFO-LAX which leaves at 10:32pm, would I have enough time to connect? I'd imagine all the United gates are pretty close to each other. I will be the first few to leave the aircraft. Thanks!

Yes, it is enough time, but you will have to hurry and if you miss it you'll be stuck in SFO overnight as I'm fairly sure that would be the last flight of the day to LAX.

  • complications
    Dec 22, 2014
Arriving at SFO from YVR via United Airlines (US1707V) at 8:22 AM and connecting with United Airlines (UA1212V) flight to Puerto Vallarta at 9:17 AM. Any complications such as checking baggage again and having to go through security again?

No, on your way to mexico, you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. All you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which will be connected inside security.

  • United flight from terminal 3 to international terminal
    Dec 16, 2014
I have a flight, arrive SFO 11:00 am in terminal 3 and leaving SFO 12:05 from international terminal. Do I have enough time for transfer? Thanks.

Yes, that should be plenty of time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which should take less than 15 minutes.

    Great. Thanks

  • YUL-SFO-LAX --> International A or G to Terminal 3 security question
    Dec 16, 2014
Hi, I'm flying to LAX through SFO from Montreal with Air Canada and then United Airlines. In SFO, I'll have to go to terminal 3 from either International terminal A or G (I don't know which one yet). Will I need to pass through security again in SFO or is there a walkway inside security between these terminals (I will have already passed through US customs in Montreal)? If I do have to go through security again, will I have enough time if I have a 1h30 layover? Thanks

There is a walkway from I-G to Terminal 3 inside security. There is no walkway from I-A, so you would have to go through security if you arrive there. Either way you have enough time.

  • AUH - SFO - MIA - PAP
    Dec 16, 2014
Do i need to change terminal for aa. If yes do i need to go through all the custom and immigration? If yes do i need a visa or how can i change the terminal. Please advise. I m flying from AUH to SFO to MIA to PAP haiti

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Abu Dhabi. In San Francisco, you will arrive in the International Terminal, you must go to Terminal 1, get your AA boarding passes, go through security and to your departure gate

Terminal 1 is domestic terminal or international termina?

Terminal 1 is a domestic terminal. Your flight to Miami is domestic.

Thank you so much for your great help. Is it connected to the international terminal or not? how much time it takes from international terminal to terminal 1. do i need visa to switch from one to other terminal or not?

It takes about 5-10 minutes to walk to Terminal 1. You need a US Transit Visa for your journey if you do not live in a Visa Waiver country, whether you have to change terminals or not.

  • Minimum time necessary to make a connecting flight
    Nov 28, 2014
My wife and I are flying into and out of SFO with an hour and ten minute layover. We are changing carriers from United to US Airways, and likely changing terminals. Will we have enough time to make the connecting flight?

Also we are flying Friday the day after thanksgiving

It's probably enough time. Not a lot to spare.
