  • Enough time for next flight?

Hi All, I am flying in to SFO at the International Terminal and am looking to book a next flight out to DC on United Air. I am touching down SFO at 12:34pm and I have 2 options for the flight to DC at 3:34pm or 4:51pm. My last time in SFO, I remembered the customs line was pretty long...Will I have enough time to catch the 3:34pm? Is it easier to walk to the Domestic terminal than taking the airport tram? Thanks!!

Either flight should work - you have quite a bit of time either way. Yes, since the International Terminal is right next to Terminal 3 it is fastest to walk.

Thanks ZAP! Do I check in my luggage at UA counter in terminal 3? Was confused with the recheck counter I see in other posts.

It sounds like you're purchasing two separate tickets on two separate reservations. If that's the case, yes, you will bring your bags to the United check-in desk in Terminal 3.

Yes 2 separate bookings. So 3 hours will still be enough time? Thanks for your help!

Yes, it should be enough time.

I am flying into SFO from Baltimore and connection to fly to Osaka. I have 1 hour and 35 minute layover. Will this be enough time? Will I have to recheck my bags and go through security? I'm landing in terminal 1 and flying out of terminal 3.

Correction: I'm actually flying into terminal 3 and out of the International terminal.

There's no US Customs when leaving the US. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate if both tickets are on the same reservation. T3 and the Google concourse of the international terminal are connected inside security.

  • 90 min layover in SFO, enough time for connecting flight?

Hello, i'll be arriving in SFO at around 21:15 (on a Monday night) on a Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore. I'm considering taking the 22:45 connecting flight to Orlando. Will i have enough time? This is the last direct non-stop flight to Orlando, i'm really hoping i can make it instead of taking a non-direct flight or the next direct flight which is next morning at 8am! Thanks

On two separate reservations that would be very difficult, if not impossible. It might be possible without checked bags.

Going from YVR Vancouver, Canada to Atlanta, on United. A layover of 1 hour 35 min at SFO in late evening.. Will I have to pick up my checked luggages to recheck the bags? Will I be going through security again? Is that layover time enough or a little too rush?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. All you have to do in San Francisco is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have plenty of time.

Hello, I'm having a layover at SFO for about 1 and a half hour, arriving from Incheon (Seoul). Is that time enough for me to depart to O'Hare (Chicago)? How far will the gate be to depart from my arrival gate? Will I have to recheck my baggage? Thank you!

Sorry i forgot to mention; I'm flying united in both international and domestic

You will arrive in the International terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags, Walk to Terminal 3 and go through security and to your departure gate. You should have just about enough time. If your flight is late and you miss it, United has pretty much hourly flights from SFO to ORD that you can be rebooked on.

    Thank you

  • How long?

I'm flying into SFO on a international flight with United. My flight is scheduled to land at 11:30 am and my connecting flight takes off at 12:55 pm. How long does it usually take to get from the international terminal to the united domestic terminal after customs, baggage and re-checking in? Also is it better to walk to United domestic or take the tram?

It's best to walk. 85 minutes is 5 minutes shorter than the recommended International to domestic connection time at SFO. Where are you flying to on your domestic flight?

My domestic flight is to Las Vegas. I figured that once I get off the plane I will be moving pretty fast to get checked into my next gate and if I'm running a little late I will ask them to call the gate and let them know I'm on the way.

They won't call the gate. You will already be checked in for both flights. However, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, and go through security.

I think it will be at International terminal A. Is this enough time for a connection. I will have my bag check through from PHX to BKK. The tickets are booked on the together from PHX to BKK. Thank you.

That should be just enough time. You will have to take the AirTrain from T2 to the International Terminal and go through security.

I'm arriving on a Singapore Airlines flight in SFO at 7:40 pm and would like to book a SFO-LAX flight with Southwest leaving SFO at 10:00 pm. Do I have enough time or should I book a later flight?

Hi I am flying from Mexico City to SFO with United Airlines arrive 9.30 @ terminal 1 & depart Terminal 3 with United Airlines to Vancouver @ 11.10. Will I have enough time.I flew to Mexico via LAX on the 4th Oct will I have to claer customs again

You will not arrive in Terminal 1. You will arrive in the International Terminal. When you arrive in SFO you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags, go through security and to your departure gate. You have enough time.

  • LAX -> SFO -> HKG with a 1 hr 50 min layover?

Hi, I'm arriving in SFO as a layover from LAX. The flight from LAX is a Virgin America flight landing in T2, and my onward flight is 1 hr and 50 min later in the International Terminal with Singapore Airlines. Is this enough time for a connection, and will I need to recheck my luggage in at transfer. The tickets are booked on the same PNR through Singapore Airlines.

Since both tickets are on the same reservation your bags will be transferred for you. All you have to do is take the AirTrain from Terminal 2 to the International terminal, get your Singapore boarding pass if Virgin America can't issue it, and then go through security. You have enough time.

Thanks, ZAP. You've been incredibly helpful!

  • Connection SFO to LAS

Hi, I am flying on United Air from SIN to SFO and connecting to LAS all on same reservation. When I reach SFO, do I need to clear customs and pick up luggage and check in luggage and clear customs again for LAS? My flight to SFO will arrive at 10:40am, and depart SFO to LAS at 12:30am - enough connection time?

Yes, in SFO you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate in Terminal 3. You should have enough time.

Hi, I will be flying Singapore Airlines from SIN and Arrive in SFO International Terminal at 1125AM. I will take the next flight at 1425PM (3 hours transit) to Calgary on United Airline. As I had purchased a separate ticket on United Airline to Calgary (YYC), I will need to collect baggage and then recheck in at Terminal 3 for my flight out to Calgary. I am wondering do I have the time to catch my flight out to Calgary (3 hours transit) considering I have to clear SFO customs, collect my baggage and then recheck in at UA counter to drop off my baggage again. Is it a long walk from International Terminal to Terminal 3? Thank you!

3 hours should be enough time. Terminal 3 is right next to the International Terminal.

Hi ZAP, thank you for your fast response on this. I have another question. Lets say if Singapore Airline manage to tag and interline my baggage to final destination at Calgary (YYC) although I have 2 different tickets but they are also Star Alliance., what is the procedure? My luggage will be tagged to YYC as final destination and after collection at SFO for custom and immigration, where do I drop the luggage again? Is there are conveyor belt or UA counter for me to collect my boarding tickets and pay and also drop off my luggage? Or I have to pay during checking in Singapore Airlines (SIN to SFO)and also get my boarding tickets for UA in Singapore through Singapore Airline? Apologies for the many questions as first time transiting in USA.) Appreciate you help.

If your baggage is tagged to YYC you will still claim your bags go to through US Customs, then immediately re-check your bags at the re-check desk right after.

Hi. I will be arriving from Manila via Philippine Airlines at approx 6:10pm. I'm considering booking a flight to Vegas via Virgin America that departs at 7:50pm. Will I have enough time to catch my flight to LAS or would it be a safer idea to book a 10:50pm flight with United? And will I have to pick up my luggage and check them in again? Thanks in advance. Much appreciated.

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then take your bags to your second airline and re-check them at the check in desk then go through security. I would book the 10:50 flight. The 7:50 flight is not possible.

Thanks for the advice! I guess I'll stick with the short layover rather than chancing a 1.5 hours.
