My 15 year old is traveling alone on united and then SAS. Hnl to SFO arrives into terminal 3. He then needs to walk via connector to international terminal concourse G, basically from gate to gate, and no need to go thru security check correct? Do you know how long the walk is? Would you know the gates SAS been using to go CPH?

Correct. No security needed to get to the G concourse. Shouldn't take more than 15 minutes.

  • Connecting from BEY and LHR to LAX through SFO
    Apr 10, 2015
I am flying into SFO from BEY and LHR and arriving at 1710hrs and I have a connecting flight to LAX via United at 1900hrs. The layover is about 1 hr 40 mins. Do I need to get my luggage re-checked at SFO and to go through customs and Immigration there or at LAX, and if so is there enough time?

Forgot to mention I arrive from LHR with Untied Airlines which is also taking me to LAX. Thanks for the advice.

Yes, in SFO you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate in Terminal 3.

  • YVR to SFO then SFO to ORD
    Apr 10, 2015
Flying YVR to SFO tomorrow, landing at 9:45pm. Departing at 10:35pm to ORD all on United. Canadian citizen and no check-in baggage. Is 50 minutes enough time? Many thanks.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs all you have to do in SFO is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

    Thank you!

Will 1hr, 30min layover be enough time to catch my connecting flight to SAN after arriving from FRA? All flights on United

Forgot to mention I'm arriving at 7:40pm on a Friday into SFO

That should barely be enough time, you will arrive in the international termina, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate in Terminal 3.

  • From HND to LAS
    Apr 4, 2015
Hi, my JAL flight from Tokyo HND lands at 5.25pm in Int'l terminal. I'm planning to book another flight from SFO to LAS departing at 10.00pm operated by Southwest from terminal 1 on the same day. I'm not a US citizen. Is it likely that I can make it? Thanks

Yes. That should be enough time.

  • SYD-SFO-YVR on May 25th

HI we have a flight UA870 from Sydney to SFO arrive 8.40am connecting to flight UA1569 at 10.42 to YVR both through United. Is this enough time 2 hours and what procedure should we follow on arrival to help speed up the process, many thanks for any help you can supply.

You will arrive in concourse G of the international terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, claim your bags, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

Never been to SFO and I am flying from MSN-ORD-SFO-TPE. What do I do when I arrive in SFO.

Assuming your flight to TPE is on United, all you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate in Terminal 3 to your departure gate in concourse G of the International Terminal. There is a walkway inside security between those two areas. So all you have to do is walk from one gate to the other.

Thank you! Are my only dealings with customs and immigration in TPE or do I have to do something in SFO?

Correct, on your way to Taipei you won't have to do anything with your bags or go through any immigration proceedings until you get to Taipei.

Thank you, again!! Last question (for now): On the return trip will I go through Customs/Immigration in SFO or ORD? I truly appreciate your help:-)

On the return in SFO you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security.

I am looking at flying to San Francisco from Las Vegas via JetBlue which is scheduled to land at 21:32, and my international flight from San Francisco to Singapore is at 00:05. Will I have enough time to collect my baggage and check in for my flight to Singapore? Approximately 2 hrs 30 mins.

  • Munich Flight to SFO
    Mar 27, 2015
I will be going from Munich (Luftansa) to SFO and landing in SFO at 7:00pm. My United flight from SFO to Orange County is at 8:30pm. Will I have enough time to clear customs/immigration and make flight??

That will likely barely be enough time assuming your first flight is on-time.

  • terminal 1 to terminal 3

If I arrive on a United flight at SFO (terminal 1) and have a departing flight on Delta (terminal 3) do I need to exit and then clear security or is there a way to do this without having to go through security again?

You have your terminals reversed. United uses Terminal 3, Delta uses Terminal 1. Yes, you will have to exit security and take the AirTrain between Terminals. They are not connected inside security.

  • IST - SFO - PHX
    Mar 14, 2015
I'm arriving from Istanbul at 4:25pm on Turkish Airlines. I'm looking to book our next leg to PHX. There is a Southwest flight I'd love to get that leaves at 6:20pm. Is that enough time? Or should I book the USAirways at 8:30? flight We'll be dog tired and want to get home!

    6:20 is not enough time.

  • YVR --> SFO --> SAN
    Mar 11, 2015
Hi there! I will be landing in SFO from SAN at 6:21. The flight to YVR is at 7:13, giving me only 52 minutes to make my connection. Is this feasible? It will be the returning flight.

I forgot to mention that SAN to SFO will be on United. SFO to YVR will be on Air Canada.

Yes, that is feasible. Some Air Canada gates are directly accessible from the United gates without going through security. Some you have to go through security. But even if it's one of the ones where you have to go through security, I think you have enough time if your flight from SAN is on-time.

  • Connection Time
    Mar 10, 2015
Hi we are booked to travel LAX to SFO and then connect SFO to LHR. We are travelling with Delta LAX SFO arrival terminal 1 then travelling British Airways SFO to LHR departure from the international terminal. Our flights are issued on separate tickets so I assume we won't be able to check in all the way through. We are also travelling with 2 children. What is the minimum time you would suggest?

I would suggest 2 hours at a bare minimum. Preferably 3 hours.

    Mar 8, 2015
Hi, I've booked an Air New Zealand flight From BNE - SFO via AKL which is scheduled to land at 12:50pm on 21st May. I am now needing to book an onwards journey to Chicago (ORD) and am looking at a 4:05pm departure on the same day with Virgin America. The flights will be on separate tickets and am wondering if this layover time is doable? Considering I know I will have to clear customs, immigration etc. Thanks for your help!

Yes, that will probably be enough time.

  • ONT-SFO-YVR on UA & UA
    Mar 6, 2015
HI I'M travelling with 2 seniors but are able to walk. we only have 35 min lay over in SFO, do you think we have enough time to transfer gate within the same terminal?

If your first flight is on-time. yes, that should be enough time.

thank you ZAP, this is very helpful

  • LIH-SFO-YYZ on UA & AC
    Mar 6, 2015
Hi. Got revised itinerary from AC and my 1hr25m connection is now down to 57 minutes. Arriving from Lihue on UA into T3. Departing on AC from International Term. It looks like the walk is not too long, but do we have to go thru security? Good news is that it is late at night, bad news is my party includes 3 small kids. Is this connection feasible even if inbound flight is on time? Thx!

Some Air Canada flights depart from the side of the International Terminal that doesn't require going through security and some do. You should still have enough time if your flight is on-time.

Thanks for this. Last night's flight to YYZ went from gate G91 which I guess - based on its proximity to terminal 3 - would be a gate that would not require me to go through security?
