Why do you have to go thru Security and mag and bag to get to Term 3. Surely in this day and age we can do better.

Because there is no room for Air Canada in Terminal 3 or the G concourse of the International Terminal.

Hi, I'm a Canadian citizen. I'm flying to ICN (Seoul) from YVR (Vancouver), and am going to be transferring at SFO. I'd like to know if I would have to collect my baggage at SFO and drop-off them to ICN. Also, what are the specific procedures I'll be experiencing at SFO for transfer to ICN? Thanks!

As long as both of your tickets are bought on the same reservation then you do not have to collect your baggage at SFO. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. If both of your tickets are on United or United and Asiana, then all you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate in Terminal 3 to your departure gate in the G concourse of the International Terminal - there is a walkway inside security connecting them.

  • Domestic - United to Virgin Terminal in 1 hour
    Jul 24, 2015
My first flight from San Diego to SFO with United lands at 1:50pm, and I have to make a connecting flight from SFO to Las Vegas with Virgin by 2:50pm. I won't be checking any bags, just carry-on. Do I have to go through security again since I will still be traveling domestically? Will I have enough time to make my second flight?

Yes, you will have to go through security because Terminal 3 and Terminal 2 aren't connected inside security. You shouuld have enough time if your flight from San Diego is on-time.

  • Help please comparing two connecting flights
    Jul 22, 2015
Flying to Paris on United from SFO at 2:40 pm. I have a choice of two connections from LAX, both United. The first arrives SFO at 12:35 pm, but, per Google Flights, "often delayed 30+minutes". The second option arrives SFO at 1:28 pm, but has no notation about delays. Which would you recommend?

I would opt for the first flight. The lack of notation on the second flight is probably because it is new.

  • Tight SYD-SFO-IAH Connection
    Jul 22, 2015
UA schedule changes have reduced my SFO connection time to 1hr 30 min arriving from Sydney and changing to Houston flight, all on UA. I have Global Entry and will be checking a bag. Is this doable? Thank you

With Global Entry that should definitely be possible.

  • Pre-clear in Dubai for SFO?
    Jul 22, 2015
Hi again, does the DXB to SFO flight require customs in US, or is it now done in Dubai? Trying to make a 3:00PM Delta flight to LAX... is this possible, or should we go for the 5:00 PM flight? Thanks!

Dubai does not have preclearance. You will have to go through US Immigration and Customs in San Francisco.

  • Traansfer to Delta flight from Emirates flight
    Jul 22, 2015
My wife and I will be arriving SFO at 13:15 on Emirates 225 (business class). Can we make the 3:00 PM Delta flight (first class) with two checked in bags?

On two separate itineraries? It's possible but will be very difficult.

Arriving at SFP at 8:30pm on United. Taking Jet Blue at 9:19pm. Is that enough time to make the connection? Will have to pick up luggage at carousel.

Spelling Error below. Arriving at SFO at 8:30pm from Hawaii on United. Taking Jet Blue at 9:19pm. Is that enough time to make connection? Will have to pick up luggage at carousel.

With checked luggage this is impossible. It will be impossible to claim your baggage and get it to the JetBlue check in counter before the bag check cutoff.

I was afraid of that. Thanks for your imput.

  • Kansai - SFO - Chicago
    Jul 16, 2015
I bought connecting ticket from United Airlines (not separately). Kansai - SFO - Chicago. Will arrive in SFO at 10:35 am and should be departing to Chicago at 11:55. Is it enough time to transfer (1 hour and 20 minutes)? Thanks

That's a little under the recommended time. However, if you miss your connection, United has almost hourly flights from SFO to ORD that you can be rebooked on.

    Thanks for the information

  • LAS- SFO- INC I have 1hr 20min
    Jul 16, 2015
I'm going to INC Korea making one stop at SFO and I have 1 hr 20min to transfer. landing on terminal 2 boarding area D and need to go international terminal, boarding area A. is it possible? do I need to get through security point again or there's connection without it? I better take an airtrain? no idea.. need help so bad. thanx

You will have to take the airtrain and go trough security and if you purchased two separate tickets you will have to transfer your bags yourself as well.

I got it.. thanx. it's one ticket. will it be possible to make that everything in 1hr 20min? there's no other way not to go through security as terminal 3 and internatioinal B?

You should have enough time. There is no connection between Terminal 2 and the International Terminal inside security.

  • MNL - NRT - SFO - LAS
    Jul 14, 2015
I'm traveling from MNL to LAS with layovers at NRT and SFO. MNL - NRT via ANA then NRT - SFO via UA finally SFO to LAS via Skywest/United Express I'll arrive in SFO at 10:40am then connecting flight to LAS is at 12:55pm All tickets purchased under one reservation. Just want to know what I need to do and where I need to go once I'm in SFO in order to catch my connecting flight to LAS. I have my 7 yo kid with me so I wanna make sure I don't miss the connection. Thanks.

In SFO you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. Everything is pretty close together.

    Thanks so much!

  • 59 min transfer from atl - to ICN Seoul
    Jul 13, 2015
HI, I am arriving at 9:56 A.M on Thursday in SFA from Atlanta. Connection to ICN Seoul Korea at 10:55 Both flights are by United airlines. 59 min will be enough?, Do I need pick up lugguage for recheck? I need pass thur security again? I'd be appreciated at your advice.

All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You don't have to go through security or do anything with your baggage on your way to Seoul. There is a walkway inside security connecting United's domestic gates with their gates in the International Terminal.

    Thanks for your information.

My family is travelling in January arriving on Singapore Airlines at 1110 in SFO, next flight is at 1335 Southwest Airlines going LIT. Family of green card holders with 7 yr. old American citizen. Do we have enougn time?

No, I really don't think that is enough time unless your Singapore flight arrives quite early. You will have to transfer your bags yourself from the International Terminal to Southwest's check-in counter.

    Thanks for your information.

  • DXB - SFO - LAS
    Jul 6, 2015
Hi, I am arriving on an Emirates flight at 13:15 on a Thursday and have a connection with Vrigin USA to Las Vegas at 15:00. I am on a UK passport with probably just hand luggage, have I got enough time to make the connection?

With just hand luggage, I think you can make that if you check in for your Virgin America flight online before you leave Dubai.

I'm traveling from LAX-LHR w/ a connecting flight in SFO on Virgin Atlantic. Flight was booked togehter. Will I have enough time to make my connecting flight? Will baggage be tagged for final destination?

I forgot to note that my layover is 1hr and 25 mins.

What airline are you flying from LAX to SFO?

I will be flying Delta from LAX to SFO

You will have to take the airtrain or walk from Terminal 1 to the International Terminal and go through security. I think you have enough time.
