  • flying into SFO on a different RT ticket from SFO to NRT

I am flying from SLC to SFO. It is purchased on a separate ticket then my SFO to NRT flight on May 8th at 11:20 am arriving in NRT on May 9th then onto another flight to BKK 4 hrs after arriving into NRT. For SFO since my ticket is different ticket domestic that I bought from SLC to SFO will I need to go retrieve my bags from baggage claim then head over to the international terminal? I am flying Alaska or Delta for SLC to SFO not sure where they usually taxi into as far as concourses go. But will I need to retrieve my checked luggage on that first flight then head over to the international terminal, check in with the airlines and then go through security all over again since I have two separate tickets? And will i need to do the same in NRT for my 4 hr flight later to BKK which is purchased on all the United website but just operated by ANA. Thanks.

You will need to claim your bags from Alaska or Delta. and take them to the airline operating your flight to Tokyo, check in again, and then go through security. In NRT all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

what is the fastest way to connect from terminal 2 to international terminal Korean airlines? Baggage will be checked through from Phx to Incheon.

The AIrTrain is probably slightly faster than walking.

Which side of the international terminal is Korean airlines located? do I have to check in at Korean airlines counter if my bags are checked through? How do I get from terminal 2 to IT without having to go through TSA security?

Korean is on the A side. If you do not already have your Korean boarding pass you will stop at their check in counter. If you already have it then you don't have to stop at their check in counter. It is not possible to go from T2 to the International Terminal without having to go through security again.

  • SEA-SFO via UA, then SFO-NRT via ANA. 1h20 connection!

Hi, I'm flying from SEA to SFO with United, then SFO to NRT (Japan) with ANA. It's all one ticket, purchased via ANA website. I have one checked baggage. I have 1h20 from my arrival time to departure time with ANA (departure time, not boarding time). Do I have enough time for the connection? Do I need to pick up my checked baggage? From what I understand I go from Terminal 3 to terminal I. But unsure if need to get bags in-between?

Yes, you have enough time. You do not have to do anything with your bags. There is a walkway inside security from Terminal 3 where you arrive and the G concourse of the International Terminal where you will depart.

Travelling from Toronto to SFO then connecting to Maui. I've never been to SFO, is an hour and 15 minutes enough time to make the connection? Is it easy to get from International arrivals to domestic departures?

Forgot to say flying Air Canada to SFO, then United to Maui

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Toronto. If you arrive in concourse G all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate inside security. if you arrive in Concourse A you will have to go through security again in Terminal 3. Air Canada uses both A and G. You have enough time.

Hi, I'm flying United from Arcata airport to SFO and transferring to an international overseas flight to Frankfurt. Layover time is 1hour 10 minutes. Do you think this will be enough time? Will there be security before the international flight? Arcata flights tend to delay around 20 minutes so I am not very sure if I should get this flight. THank you

There is no additional customs or security before an International flight. All you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

Only have an hour and 25 in SFO will that be enough to clear customs and catch the connector? Canadian citizen flying United

It will be very difficult unless your flight from Sydney arrives early. Minimum international to international connection time is 90 minutes with 2 hours recommended.

  • From Toronto we will connect in San Francisco

Do we need to clear security again in San Francisco?

It depends where you are flying to and where your flight from Toronto arrives. what airlines are you flying and where are you going from SFO?

Our final destination is Manila via Incheon Korea. From Toronto we are flying Air Canada to San Francisco then we take Asiana to Seoul & finally to Manila

So you could arrive in Concourse A or Concourse G of the International Terminal - Air Canada uses both. You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Toronto. If you arrive in Concourse G all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which will also be in concourse G. If you arrive in concourse A, then you will have to walk over to the G side and go through security.

Hi I am coming from Edmonton to Denver to San Fran to Hong Kong. Layover time from San Fran to HK is 58 minutes. I was wondering if there would be enough time? Flying through United Airlines. Thanks.

Yes, that should be enough time. All you have to do in SFO is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All United gates are connected inside security.

I am flying from Vancouver to SFO Air Canada and then continuing to Narita with ANA, do I need to get my luggage in SFO and then re-check or it will go through? Additionally, can I visit Centurion Lounge in Terminal 3? I have US passport

You won't have to claim your luggage in SFO. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. Terminal 3 and the G concourse of the International Terminal are connected inside security. So you could use the Centurion Lounge.

Hi! I am flying from Vancouver to SFO on a United flight that is operated by Air Canada, then connecting to a United flight to Houston and then Roatan. When I arrive in SFO, do I need to pick up my bags, recheck them and go through customs or security? I will be arriving at 10:30 pm and departing at 12:43 am. Will that be enough time? Thank you!!

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. All you have to do in San Francisco is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have plenty of time.

    Thank you so much!!!

  • Connection time at SFO to Kahului 2 hours

I will be traveling with United from Frankfurt Germany landing at SFO at 14:40 and then need to catch the flight to Kahului also with United at 16:45. Will the 2 hours be enough? Thanks

Yes, that should be just about enough time.

Thanks. Would our luggage get checked in all the way through to Hawaii, or will we need to pick it up and check it in again?

It will be tagged to Hawaii, but in San Francisco you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.

I am flying in on UA to SFO to connect for another UA flight to Vancouver. Do I need to clear Customs and Immigration in San Francisco? How much time is needed to make the connection? Thank you.

Yes, in San Francisco you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US CUstoms, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. I recommend at least 2 hours.

Arriving with united from Canada and have 40 minutes to connection flight to Lauderdale in same terminal. Enough time?

Unless you are coming from Victoria that is enough time as long as your first flight is on-time.

  • LIH to SFO to YYZ

Please help me in my plan. to reduce layover time- 2 separate bookings with checked bag. Arriving SFO from LIH on United @ 2105 hrs. (I assume at F wing). Depart SFO to YYZ on Air Canada @ 2300 same day. 1) Pls confirm United arrives F wing, AC leaves G wing. 2) Is the time to retrieve bags at United, recheck them at AC, and make it through int'l security a) ample b) barely enough, or c)"you're-cutting-it-too-close-for-comfort-jack" ? Conservative estimate appreciated in case United flight delayed a bit.

Yes, you will arrive in the F gates. AC leaves from both G and A wings. You should have enough time to claim and re-check your bags if your flight from Lihue is on-time. There is no such thing as "International Security". Everyone goes through the same security. I would consider it "barely enough" time.

    Thanks ZAP!!!

Hi! I have a connecting flight from LAs Vegas with virgin america arriving in SFO at 8:25am and my flight to Kahului with hawaiin airlines departs at 9:55 so I only have 1hr and 30 min connection time. How far does it take to transfer from terminal 2 to international terminal? and what is the best way to get there quickly? thanks.

The best way is on the AirTrain. You can make this if you don't have checked baggage or if your bags are checked through to Hawaii.
