  • International to domestic transfer time
    Dec 5, 2012
Arriving into international on Air NZ and then onto domestic Virgin America flight. Would 2hours be enough time to clear customs at SFO and get over to Terminal 2 in time for Virgin flight (As United has now cancelled our scheduled onward flight to IAD). Thanks.

Two hours should suffice for you to go through passport check, pick up your bags, go through customs clearance and re-check-in your bags (if Air New Zealand is transferring bags to Terminal 2 - if not, you need to take your bags along and check them in at T2 before continuing on to your gate!) International to Domestic Terminals: To connect to any of the domestic terminals, take the AirTrain's blue or red line at either station A or G below the Main Hall.

I am flying to San Francisco Terminal 3 on United Airlines on an International flight (at 1936) . I have local connection flight(at 2120) in 1 hr 30 mins, is that enough?

  • Skywest commuter moving to Terminal 1
    Sep 8, 2012
I have told by the 1k check-in folks that as part of the Terminal 3 upgrade, United domestic/international is staying in Terminal 3 and some Skywest flights are moving to Terminal 1. You have to leave the sterile area and so you have to route through security again between flights. On top of that, there is little if any Sywest/United support in Terminal 1. ---Not good. Unless they come up with a terminal to terminal shuttle that keeps you in the sterile area, connections are really going to be really tight.

It is fast through premium class (minutes), but through the regular line, arrive 2-3 hours minimum before time. I have watched airlines refuse boarding to ticketed passengers if they did not meet the international check-in time requirement. Needless to say the passengers were not happy as the re-booking or added hotel costs are on the passengers nickel in such circumstances.

Thank you for sharing your information regarding SFO Skywest changes and security checkpoint lines. You have made a considerable contribution!

How long is the wait for screening at the Intl terminal?

At SFO, the week before and after September 2 are one of the busiest of the year; also, early morning and evenings on weekdays. Arrive for international flights at least 2 hrs ahead of scheduled departure.

Best coffee kiosk in the US that I have seen! Can't beat a Peet's cappuccino to wake you up for early morning flights and the berry scones are the best I have ever eaten with lots of berries. Usually jammed with customers but the service is fast with several people behind the counter.

  • short connection time
    Aug 20, 2012
im flying into terminal 1 at sfo and then catching a connection in terminal 3. i have less than an hour...anyone know if im able to walk from terminal 1 to 3 or if i have to catch the air train?

At SFO, to get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 take the the Red Lines of the AirTrain, an automated people mover. Terminal 3 has boarding area F serving Air Canada & United, with gates 68-90. You have enough time.

  • Going from T1 to T3
    Sep 11, 2012
Getting confused. Some say there is a (secure) walkway from T1 to T3. Others say you have to leave the secure area, take the airtrain, and reenter TSA. Flying early September 2012.

At SFO, T1 is opposite T3, with the garages in the center of the terminal circle. Take the Red-line Airtrain (follow signs) which cicles all 4 terminals.

    Thanks, weaug12

So that means you DO have to exit Security and come back in, right?

  • SF to Kauai with 31 min between flights
    Aug 10, 2012
i'm flying United from DC to Kauai with a mere 31 minutes between flights at SF Airport. Will i make it??

You arrive & depart from Terminal 3 at San Francisco Airport, which has boarding area F (Air Canada & United), with gates F68-90. You can make it in half an hour. On arrival look at the overhead screens to find your departing gate, then follow signs.

  • Terminal 1 to Int'l Terminal/JetBlue
    Jul 12, 2012
I am flying in to Terminal 1 on Delta and have a 48 minute connection to make a jetBlue flight out of Int'l Terminal. Do i have to go out of security? Also, I am a Clear member but have not yet received my card in the mail, not sure if without the card if i do have to re-enter I can get ahead with Clear or if i have to wait until the card arrives. Finally, my 7 year old daughter is meeting me for the jetBlue flight, not sure if I should have my husband try to take her through security to meet me...

    1. You need to get to the 'Domestic Terminal 1 Station' out of security area - follow signs: take the Red Line (not Blue), whose next stop is International Terminal A Station (if you continue flight at A gates; the next 2 stops are garage stops; then get off at International Terminal G Station if you depart from the G gates. You will. Between A & G gates is the Main Hall where you can meet your daughter.

  • Terminal 3 to International Terminal A
    Jun 25, 2012
Is there a secured transit route from Terminal 3 to International Terminal A? As in, would i have to go through security again? Thank you.

    1. There is no Terminal A - the International Terminal has boarding areas A & G with corresponding gates. 2. Domestic to International Terminals: A secure connector allows passengers, transferring from domestic flights in Terminals 2 & 3 to international flights in Boarding Area G, to walk directly to their new gate without having to exit and re-enter security or ride a shuttle bus between the two buildings. From there transfer to Boarding Area A.

  • Terminal 1 to International Terminal
    Jun 11, 2012
I am leaving out of the country from Terminal 1 and want to see one of my friend leaving out of International Terminal (G) on the same day. Once I get through the security and in the Terminal 1, can I go to the International Terminal? Or, can I go to International Terminal with my boarding pass showing the gate in Terminal 1?

At SFO you can meet your friend only in the pre-security area of the International Terminal (the G stands for boarding area G - gates 91-102). You may want to meet him on the arrivals level, near the informaton desk. All terminals are connected in their pre-security areas by Red & Blue Lines of the AirTrain.

  • getting from united to us airways
    Jun 8, 2012
my daughter is arriving at sfo on united airlines and needs to get to us airways ticket counter to get her boarding pass. what is the best route for her to get to us airways ticket counter from united arrivals?

At SFO, United uses Terminal 3 and the International Terminal; US Airways uses Terminal 1. She should open, click on "Quick Links" - "Terminal Map" - and scroll down to terminal information and how to connect.

  • Domestic to International
    Jun 8, 2012
Hello, I am flying domestic to SFO then on an international flight with the same airline, United. I have a short connection and wanted to know where the "secure connector" is from domestic to international terminal so I dont have to exit and go back through security. My itinerary says I will be flying in and out of terminal 3 but I don't think that is right... isn't terminal 3 domestic? I am flying to China. Thanks for your help!

To determine whether you depart from the International or the Domestic Terminal 3 - look at your ticket: The International Terminal has Boarding areas A, gates 1-12 & G, gates 91-102. Terminal 3 has boarding area F with gates 68-90. International terminals are mainly used by airports for international arrivals. As to secure connector, between international terminal and T3, just follow signs.
