Sarasota Bradenton International Airport SRQ, located approximately five miles from downtown Sarasota, is a small airport that is used by both domestic and international tourists as a gateway to enjoying the Florida Gulf Coast. Sarasota Bradenton Airport serves residents and visitors to five adjacent counties: Sarasota, Manatee, De Soto, Hardee and Charlotte. SRQ is located on the West coast of Florida centered between Tampa Bay and Ft. Myers. The Airport offers a comfortable, secure and stress-free atmosphere. Airline ticketing, baggage claim, and other services are steps away from the main concourse and the commuter gates. Both short- and long-term parking lots are adjacent to the main terminal. SRQ airport is served by major national and international airlines with nonstop flights to many U.S. and overseas destinations. SRQ's main terminal has two levels: the lower level houses baggage claim and ticketing and the upper level departure gates.

The Airport recently recweived close to $1.7 million in stimulus funds for the remodeling of its passenger terminal. Construction has started and should be completed by February/March of 2010, adding 5,000 square feet or a third of the estisting passenger terminal. The projects includes plans for the relocation of the screening checkpoint, expansion of the passenger waiting areas, addition of two new restrooms, a new baggage system, a new baggage processing room, doubling the size of the ticket counters, relocation of the rental car counters, and  more room overall for passenger comfort. The face of the building and the restaurant will remain the same; the remodel will connect the existing terminal and security building to make one large building. The south facing side of the remodeled terminal is designed as a large glass wall overlooking the restaurant patio area. The new glass wall will open to allow fresh air into the terminal.

SRQ Airport artwork and display showcases can be found strategically throughout the terminal. Lobby displays include: an exotic plant arrangement; display cabinets containing airport memorabilia, items and information about the Scottish heritage in the Sarasota area, and information and product samples from the many manufacturers in the Sarasota, Bradenton and Venice area.
