While SeaTac Airport is by far the dominant airport with over 15 million enplanements per annum, this area offers some alternatives, even though they are very limited. However, for the tourist there is another airport available with a relatively good selection of major airlines, less crowds and close to the great tourist destinations of western Washington State: It is Oregon's Portland International Airport PDX, located just south of the Washington State border. To get to the Olympic National Park, head for State Hwy 26 to Astoria and cross the bridge into the Olympic Peninsula. Or head north on Route 503 to Mt. St. Helens and the Cascades; or cross the Columbia River on I-5 and take Exit 68 west to Mount Rainier National Park. Or simply cross the River and take Route 14 east along the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. For connections to the Olympic Peninsula you can choose between King County International and William Fairchild International--both fly to/from Port Angeles.

1. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport SEA, or simply SeaTac, is a large and noisy Airport, located about 13 miles south of downtown Seattle, and can be accessed from Route 518. The Metro Transit and Sound Transit buses stop at Door 6 on the Baggage Claim level. In addition, several shuttle buses and vans offer rides to the City and beyond. While parking is expensive, long-term parking at Doug Fox is both reasonable and convenient. In spite of SeaTac's size, all terminals are accessible from one central parking and ticketing area.

2. King County International Airport (Boeing Field) BFI, located within Seattle city limits, offers flights by Kenmore Air to Port Angeles (at the north shore of the Olympic Peninsula), and by SeaPort Airlines to Portland Airport.

3. William Fairchild International Airport CLM located 5 miles from Port Los Angeles, on the northeastern shore of the Olympic Peninsula, offers charter flights by Rite Bros. Aviation and flights to SeaTac by Kenmore Air.

4. Bellingham International Airport BLI is 89 miles north of Seattle and close to the Canadian border. Horizon Air connects it to SeaTac, while Allegiant serves a few major southwestern cities. San Juan Airlines services the outlying islands.
