I am flying in from Incheon, Korea to San Fran CA with a layover in Seattle. My layover is only 45 mins, is that enough time to get to my next gate? I am 18 and this is my first time flying alone and only 2nd time flying to the states. Also, would I have to get my bags and recheck them in or will I be able to go straight to my gate?

I forgot to mention I am flying Delta

No, a 45 minute international to Domestic connection in Seattle is impossible. Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security. You need to contact your travel agent or Delta and get rebooked on a legal connection.

I am flying on Delta from Detroit to Anchorsge, connecting through Seattle. However, the layover is only 35 minutes. Is this too short of time to connect even though the flights were booked together through the same airline? I will only have a carry on bag.

That should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. All gates in Seattle are connected inside security.

I am flying by B.A. from London Heathrow to Seattle - transferring to Alaska Airlines and flying onto Spokane. Do I need to collect my bags from the Carousel and recheck in or will they automatically be transferred as I have just one ticket for the complete journey? If my bags are not automatically transferred etc. will I have plenty of time to do this (3 hours)?

In Seattle you will arrive in the S Satellite, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, and re-check them at the re-check desk immediately after, then go through security and take the underground train to your departure gate in the C, D, or N concourse. You have plenty of time.

Thank you very much - would it be the same procedure in reverse on return?

No, on the return you will only need to go from your arrival gate in C, D, or N to your departure gate in S. There is no US Customs when leaving the US.

I will have about 90 mins to connect in SEA to SFO coming from PEK on Delta. Is this enough time to clear customs, get to the gate, etc?

that should barely be enough time.

Thanks ZAP, My other question is: I'm a U.S. Citizen, on 10/12/15 will take DL128 flight form PEK, should arrive in SEA at 1:10 pm, then I need to catch a 2:45pm DL5738 flight to SFO, since only have 95 minutes layover, if I missing the flight due to delete, customs, etc; will Delta assign a next available flight to Me? If they don't have any seat available the day, do I have chance to get on other airline?

Yes, if you miss your connection they will rebook you on the next available Delta flight. If the delay was your fault and what they offer you is unacceptable you can press them to put you on another airline. They can book you on a United or Alaska flight to SFO if necessary, but they are reluctant to do so unless forced to.

am flying from PDX to JED saudi arabia, i have two stops: 1st in SEA with 1hr layover & 2nd in Paris, then from paris to saudi arabia. My ques. is: after check-in in Portland, and arriving SEA; Do i'll have to go through customs and collect my bags and re check-in ? or i can go directly to my next flight gate. Knowing that i purchase 1-tkt with one reservation. And should 1hr is enough time !!? pls advice.

You do not go through US Customs when leaving the US. All you have to do in Seattle is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

    thanks...

  • Getting Through Customs

I have a flight from Dubai to Seattle with Emirates, then Seattle to Calgary with Atlantic Airlines. Will I need to go through customs? Can the procedure be explained step-by-step (where do I collect my bags and how do i get to customs, etc) and will 3hrs30mins be enough?

In seattle you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs in the S Satellite. if you purchased two separate tickets, you will then have to put your bags on a conveyor belt to the main terminal and take a train there yourself. There is no such airline as Atlantic Airlines serving Seattle. Do you mean Alaska Airlines?

Sorry. Yes, I meant Alaska Airline. I purchased one ticket not two. What happens in that case? And is 3hrs30mins a sufficient amount of time? Thank you for your response.

Since you purchased one ticket, in Seattle you will arrive in the S Satellite, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and take the underground train to your departure gate, which will be in the C, D, or N concourse.

3 hrs 3 mins should be enough time.

ZAP, thank you so much for your help! Truly appreciated!

I have a flight from calgary to seattle with alaska airlines with a 4;21 hr layover at SEA-TAC, then a connecting flight with emirates to dubai.... do i need to go through customs at the airport or can i directly go to my gate?

Did you purchase your tickets on one reservation or separately? You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Calgary.

i purchased my tickets on one reservation. Thank you!

Then you can just go from your arrival gate in C, D, or N to your departure gate in S. Your bags will be transferred for you.

My sister's coming from Thailand on Korean Air arriving at SEA at 12:20pm. Our final destination is ANC. I'm planning to buy Delta flight at 2:40pm but I'm not sure if 2hr layover will be enough. My experiences getting through custom at LAX were exhaustive to say the least and so I was wondering if my sis will be able to make it through the custom, get the bag, and go to Delta counter and check in again in less than 2 hours? Thank you!

Purchasing two separate tickets, I would want a little more time.

I am American citizen and traveling from YVR-ZGR and back. On my way back I am flying from ZGR-FRA , FRA-SEA and SEA-YVR. Can I stay in Seattle or I have to go to Vancouver? Thank you.

You will have to claim your bags when you go through customs in Seattle, so yes, you can leave the airport there if you want.

  • YVR-SEA-PVG, 1 hour enough?

I plan to go to China from Canada and have to make a transfer in Seatle. flight to SEA will land on Terminal B and flight go to Pudong will take off on Terminal S. I have only 1 hour between these two flights and will it be enough? Plus, do I need to go through US custom in SEA and redo security screen?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. As long as your tickets were purchased together all you have to do in Seattle is take the underground train from your arrival concourse to the S-Satellite for your departure gate. That should be enough time.

Thank you for your reply. How about the return trip? Will I pre-clear US customs in Pudong? My return trip is PVG-SEA-YVR, with 2 hours layover

No, on your return trip you will arrive in the S Satellite, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and take the underground train to your departure concourse. You will go through Canadian Immigration and Customs when you get to Vancouver.

Oops..... So do you think 2 hrs would be enough?

Yes, 2 hours should be enough.

hey i am traveeling from Vancouver to dubai . Just wondering if the layover time of 1:20 min in Seattle enough to catch the flight from seattle to dubai ?Please clarify .

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. If you purchased tickets together you will have enough time. However, if you purchased separate tickets that is not enough time.

  • 6 Hr Lay over waitng for Transporter bus

My son will be arriving 5 am and bus doesn't leave until 11 am. Rather than going directly to baggage claim and getting his lugguge, can he stay in the concourse to eat and shop? Can we arrange to have his bag kept for later pickup? Waiting for 6 hrs lugging his large suitcase and waiting in the bus wait area seems tortuous. Thanks in advance to your replies.

If it is an international flight he won't even be allowed on the concourse - he will be sent straight to Immigration, international baggage claim, and customs. If it's a domestic flight, he can take his time, but they will not "hold" a bag to come out at a specific time.

It is a domestic flight. I was hoping he would not have to spend the entire time waiting with his bag. How long do you think is reasonable to get to baggage claim before he would risk losing his bag. 1 hour too long?

1 hr would probably be ok
