Hello from Japan... I am thinking of asking a friend to pick me up upon landing so we could dine in Seattle during my short layover. I land at 9a.m. from Tokyo and will check my baggage through to Pullman. However my plane to Pullman leaves at 4p.m. After customs/immigration is it possible for a traveller to leave the airport, dine in Seattle and get back into the terminal? I understand that I will probably have to have my boarding pass on hand and also go through the security check. I know at some airports that international passengers are not allowed to leave the terminal until they reach their destination but that may be related to passengers headed to another country. Thanks.

In general non-citizens arriving at a foreign airport are technically entering foreign soil as soon as they leave the secured area, and consequently need a temporary visa. I suggest you or your friend contact SEA at http://www.portseattle.org/About/Contact/Pages/Contact-the-Port.aspx or tel. (206) 787 5388 for their rules. Your friend may also want to use the new and extended free Cell Phone Lot (30 minutes max)--staying in his car until you are ready to call him to be picked up at the curb outside the baggage claim. From Southbound Airport Expressway: Take the Air Cargo Rd./Cell Phone Lot exit, turn right onto 170th, turn right onto Air Cargo Road and follow that road until you see the Lot on your left. From Southbound International Blvd: Turn right onto 170th, turn right onto Air Cargo Road and follow that road until you see the Lot on your left.

My friend is coming in tomorrow and has a three hour layover... What is the easiest way for me and my kids to be able to spend some time with her before she has to get to her connecting flight? Is there any way to get through security without having to buy a ticket???? Thanks!

SEA has no mentioning on their site regarding meeting points. As you cannot go through security check without a ticket, you could meet them in front of the security checkpoint (ask one of the volunteers making their round for best place to settle down with them) or proceed to the information counter. This is the terminal layout: The Main Terminal is divided by a central terminal area with four Concourses A - D, and the North & South Satellites: Shaped like a bow, Concourse B and South Satellite areto the left, Concourse C and North Satellite are to the right, and Concourses A & D are attached to the south ends of the Main Terminal.
