i have connection from los angeles to seattle then seattle to hong kong. im flying delta airline. am i going to arrive and depart at the same terminal gate S? or do i need to transfer terminal to terminal? if i need to transfer terminal to terminal; is it far?

when i return to US, do i need to go through to custom?

Both of your gates in Seattle will be in S. All toy have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you are following the same route on your return, you will go through US Customs in Seattle.

do i need to claim my luggage after custom

Yes, on your return you will arrive in the S Satellite, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate, which should also be in S.

if I come in on an Alaska flight and need to switch to southwest do I need to go through security??/ no checked bag

As long as you check in online for your Southwest flight and print out your boarding pass, no you do not have to go through security. All gates in Seattle are connected inside security.

    Thank you!

I have an upcoming trip to CUN from PDX connecting through SEA. I have about 45 mins from landing in SEA to departing SEA for CUN. Will this be enough time with checked bags?

I should also say that all of our flights are on Alaska Airlines.

  • Flying Lagos - Dubai - Seattle - Calgary

I, wife and two kids would be travelling to Calgary through Seattle on Emirate and would connect on Alaska Airline... I would like to know if We would be collect our baggage at our final destination (Calgary) and would not need to check out and check in at Seattle. Though, Alaska Airline has an interline agreement with Emirate and would be otravelling using a single ticket.

You will have to claim your bags to go through US Customs in Seattle, however, if your bags are tagged through to Calgary (YYC) you can immediately re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then proceed through security and to your Alaska Airlines departure gate.

How can I get the bag tagged through to Calgary? I have a single ticket with a final destination on it... Is the transfer desk before or after the custom point? If I use the transfer desk, would I still have to claim my bags and move them to the desk. Excuse my ignorance. I am bothered because we would have like 8 big bags because we are first time immigrant to Canada and with kids, it surely may be stressful.

If you have a single ticket then Emirates should tag your bags through to Calgary in Lagos. The Transfer desk is after you go through US Customs. It will be fairly obvious. Yes, you have to claim your bags because you have to go through US Customs. Make sure you have valid US Transit Visas for your family.

May I ask what is the purpose of asking the airline to tag my bags through to Calgary if I would still need to claim it from Emirate and by myself check it in to Alaska Airline? I ordinarily would think they would send it all through and only collect at Calagry... Yes, myself and family have transit visa through US. I called Emirate help desk and was told that I would collect my bag at Calagry if I check it in through to my destination... Now, I am confused.... I booked flight through US because it was half the cost of that through Toronto.

Because then you won't have to put your bag on a separate conveyor belt system, have to pick it up in the main terminal, then take it up to a different level and wait in another line to check it with Alaska and pay checked bag fees, which for 8 bags would be $200. US Customs policy is that in all but 3 airports, all passengers must claim their bags to go through US Customs, even if they are connecting to a different country. The only airports that are exceptions to that policy are Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, and Miami.

I will fly Delta from SFO to PVG, and connected in SEA, but the connection time is only 30 mins. Is it an enough time? thanks

Yes, that should be enough time if the first flight is on-time. You just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate which should both be in the S Satellite.

Thanks for the info. Thus, both domestic and international gates for Delta are in the same area?

    Yes they are

  • Transiting through SEATAC

I am planning to go from Vancouver to Dubai by AirCanada/Alaska from YVR to SEA and SEA to DXB through Emirates. The connection time between the flights is around 1.30 hrs. Is it sufficient time ?

Are you flying Air Canada or Alaska? They're two separate airlines who are not partners. Did you purchase your tickets together or separately? Will you have checked bags?

Thanks for the reply. No I have not purchased my ticket. What is the difference if I take Alaska vs Air Canada ? Yes, I will have checked in baggages? Do I need to collect my baggage and check in again ?

If you purchase two separate tickets you will need to claim your baggage in Seattle and re-check it with Emirates. You will need at least 2 hours, preferably 2.5 for your transfer if you do this.

Thanks for your reply. I am planning to buy a single ticket through Emirates site. If I have a single ticket is it sufficient time ? Do I need to check in my baggage again in SEA, even if I have a single ticket? Also, is there any difference between taking Alaska vs Air Canada from YVR? PS: I am not a US or Canadian citizen.

If you buy a single ticket 1 hour should be enough. You will not have to claim your baggage in Seattle. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. You may also need a US Transit Visa, depending on your citizenship.

Thanks for your reply. Any difference taking a Air Canada vs Alaska flight ?

Also, How much transit time is required while coming back from Dubai?

The Air Canada gates (in concourse A) are closer to where you will depart on Emirates (in the S satellite).

Also, coming back from Dubai you need at least 90 mins, preferably closer to 2 hours.

Thanks for your reply Any pointers on efficiently transiting through SEA ? This is my first time through SEA and having a 1 hour transit time is making me worried.

The S concourse is connected to the other concourses by an underground train, just follow the signs that show S.

Thanks. Does all Emirates flight go from the S ?

Yes, they just have the one daily flight from Seattle and it departs from S.

  • Delta SLC - SEA - AMS - CPT

Hi! I'm a US citizen looking at a 1 hr 38 min layover in SEA before continuing to AMS and then CPT. Will that be enough time to make the connection?

Yes, that is plenty of time. All you have to do in SEA is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, assuming all tickets were purchased on one reservation.

Similar to the other questions here, I'll be flying with Delta and have a connecting flight in SEA. I'll be coming from DTW and headed to HND, with a 30 minute layover. I will only have carry-on luggage. Is this enough time? Would you know which terminals I'd be arriving and departing from?

Both gates will be in the S satellite and all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, but it obviously leaves no time to spare in case of a delay on your DTW-SEA flight.

I'm a US citizen looking at a flight that gets me in to SeaTac from London at 3:23 PM, with a connecting flight on Delta to Salt Lake at 4:35. That gives me an hour and twelve minutes to get through customs and to my gate. I feel like this is just cutting it too close, but I have no familiarity with SeaTac, is it?

You will land at terminal S, collect your luggage and thru customs. 30-60 min. The new self service kiosks take about half that. You then have to go through screening again to get the next flight. I would suggest a later flight as you will cutting it very close

Hi, I'm flying to Seattle from Phoenix, arriving in Seattle at 10:25 am with a connecting flight leaving at 11:20 am to Seoul. Tickets are booked with Delta all the way through. Will 55 minutes be enough time to make my connecting flight? DL1794, DL199

Yes, that should be enough time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Both should be in the S Satellite.

Hi, i'm trying to book a flight from HND to SLC, and i found one with a connecting flight from SEA. Will a 1hr45min connection be enough to make it for my flight from SEA to SLC?

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • arrival from MSP at 7p leaving HND at 7:37p

Any experience with Delta scheduled to arrive from MSP at 7pm and trying to catch Delta to HND at 7:37p. Looks like DL 2253 has been delayed by min 10-15 mins every day this week (even on days when flights left on time). Any feedback would be much appreciated.

All you will have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in the S concourse. so all you really need is 10 minutes. However, yeah, if the flight is late you'll be stuck in Seattle overnight.

  • International to Domestic connection time

I will be arriving at 11:35 at Seattle airport from China with a connecting flight on Alaska airline departing at 1400 to DEN. Will this give me enough time to make this connection?

Yes, this should be plenty of time if tickets were purchased together and enough time, if tickets were purchased separately.

  • Confused by AS baggage policy
    Mar 30, 2015

AS phone agent said it is possible to thru check my baggage from YVR to SFO but the web policy does not agree. I have separate bookings travelling AS 2033 YVR - SEA and then AS 308 SEA - SFO Thu 7 May. Connection time 75mins. Do you know if bags are transhipped and if not is 75mins enough time to collect bags and recheck.

Since both flights are on AS the agent in Vancouver should be able to handle joining the two bookings and checking your bags through to SFO. Even if they are not, 75 mins is probably sufficient time to claim and re-check your bags.

    Thanks ZAP.

  • Enough time to make my connection

I have a UK passport and will be arriving on a BA flight from LHR on 11 Sept at 17.05. I have an Alaskan flight for Portland departing at 19.00. Will I have enough time to make this flight - and what is the best way to transfer between the arrival and departure terminal. Will I have to collect my luggage and check in again with Alaskan? Many thanks for your help.

You will arrive in the S satellite, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs. Then if your bags are tagged through to Portland you can re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and take the underground trains to your departure gate in the C, D, or N concourse.

Many thanks for that reply. Do you think I will have enough time to make the connections bearing in mind it is international transferring to domestic?

Yes, if you purchased your tickets together that is enough time.
