I will have about 90 mins to connect in SEA to LAS coming from NRT on Delta. Is this enough time to clear customs, get to the gate, etc?

Yes, that should be enough time.

I am flying into SEA from LAX, and connecting to Shanghai, China in May 1st. What gate will I be arriving in? What gate will I be departing from? Is 35 minutes connecting time enough?

You will arrive in the A, C, or S gates and depart from the S gates. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

Hello, I am traveling from HNL to Seattle via Alaska Airlines and connecting to American Airlines operated by US Airways to Phoenix and on to Orlando Florida that same flight. At the Seattle Airport are the gates for Alaska Airlines and American Airlines/US Airways within the same concourse? Do I have to get my baggage from Alaska Airlines and check into American Airlines/US Airways and go through a TSA checkpoint? Traveling with young children and the layover is 1 hr 15 minutes.

Were your tickets purchased separately or together? If together, your baggage will be transferred and all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Alaska uses 3 concourses - C, D, and N. US Airways uses A.

Hi, I am traveling from LAX-SEA-AMS-GOT with Delta Airlines on the 23 june. It is only 37 minutes between flights landing in Seattle and the flight to Amsterdam. Is it enough time? Do I need to claim my luggage?

You do not have to claim your luggage, all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate and all gates in Seattle are connected inside security. However it obviously leaves very little time to spare if your flight from LAX is delayed at all.

  • Connection time from Vancouver to Germany via. Seattle

Hello, I have a connection time of 1h22min in Seattle after arriving from Vancouver, BC, Canada with Air Canada, then departing with Lufthansa German Airlines to Frankfurt, Germany, booked from United Airlines. I would like to know if this is a formidable connection time. Thanks a lot for the help.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. All you have to do in Seattle is go from your arrival gate in concourse A to your departure gate in the S Satellite via the underground train. You should have plenty of time.

    Thanks a lot!

I am traveling from OAK-SEA-PEK, with alaska and hainan airlines. I found that alaska airlines is at north gate and hainan is at south gate. How much time do I need to transfer and do I need to claim my checked bag?

You need about 45 minutes to an hour. No, if you purchased your tickets together you don't have to claim your bag.

My flight is at terminal N 9 and I will be coming in on a shuttle bus from Whidbey Island. My flight departs at 11:50 am May 19th. Alaska airline, but I am unable to get to the airport until 10:30 am have no bags to check and I will be printing my boarding pass before leaving home. Is this going to give me enough time to make my flight if all goes as planned.

Yes, that is plenty of time. Seattle only has one terminal. N is a satellite gate area, not a terminal. All you have to do when you arrive at the airport is go through security, and then if your flight is indeed departing from N (check the monitors or airline website as gates can change and Alaska operates out of 3 different gate areas), take the underground train to N.

    Thank you for the information.

  • connecting in seattle between San jose and Vancouver

Hi - both flights are with Delta, but only 40 min between landing in Seattle and the flight to Vancouver. Is this enough time? Given that we're flying to canada, can we check luggage at San Jose all the way through? If we have to re-check then am sure it wont be enough time. Can anyone advise please?

Yes, your baggage will go straight through to Vancouver. All you have to do in Seattle is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

thank you sir. is there any way of checking if Delta flights are all in the same terminal (ie in from SJC and out to YVR) - in which case u right shd be loads of time. Out of curiosity, would Delta be responsible if their first flight was delayed leading to missing 2nd flight? Sorry, total amateur here :-(

Seattle only has one terminal. The vast majority of Delta flights are in the S Satellite. All gates in Seattle are connected inside security. If you miss your connection Delta will rebook you on the next available flight to Vancouver (either on their own airline or on another airline if there is no flight of their own).

ZAP thank you so much. one last amateur qn if you know... checked baggage rates, will delta charge that for the trip (SJC-YVR) or by individual flight (SJC-SEA and SEA-YVR)... its amazing how these costs rack up :-(

i have connection from los angeles to seattle then seattle to hong kong. im flying delta airline. am i going to arrive and depart at the same terminal gate S? or do i need to transfer terminal to terminal? if i need to transfer terminal to terminal; is it far?

when i return to US, do i need to go through to custom?

Both of your gates in Seattle will be in S. All toy have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you are following the same route on your return, you will go through US Customs in Seattle.

do i need to claim my luggage after custom

Yes, on your return you will arrive in the S Satellite, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate, which should also be in S.

if I come in on an Alaska flight and need to switch to southwest do I need to go through security??/ no checked bag

As long as you check in online for your Southwest flight and print out your boarding pass, no you do not have to go through security. All gates in Seattle are connected inside security.

    Thank you!

I have an upcoming trip to CUN from PDX connecting through SEA. I have about 45 mins from landing in SEA to departing SEA for CUN. Will this be enough time with checked bags?

I should also say that all of our flights are on Alaska Airlines.

  • Flying Lagos - Dubai - Seattle - Calgary

I, wife and two kids would be travelling to Calgary through Seattle on Emirate and would connect on Alaska Airline... I would like to know if We would be collect our baggage at our final destination (Calgary) and would not need to check out and check in at Seattle. Though, Alaska Airline has an interline agreement with Emirate and would be otravelling using a single ticket.

You will have to claim your bags to go through US Customs in Seattle, however, if your bags are tagged through to Calgary (YYC) you can immediately re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then proceed through security and to your Alaska Airlines departure gate.

How can I get the bag tagged through to Calgary? I have a single ticket with a final destination on it... Is the transfer desk before or after the custom point? If I use the transfer desk, would I still have to claim my bags and move them to the desk. Excuse my ignorance. I am bothered because we would have like 8 big bags because we are first time immigrant to Canada and with kids, it surely may be stressful.

If you have a single ticket then Emirates should tag your bags through to Calgary in Lagos. The Transfer desk is after you go through US Customs. It will be fairly obvious. Yes, you have to claim your bags because you have to go through US Customs. Make sure you have valid US Transit Visas for your family.

May I ask what is the purpose of asking the airline to tag my bags through to Calgary if I would still need to claim it from Emirate and by myself check it in to Alaska Airline? I ordinarily would think they would send it all through and only collect at Calagry... Yes, myself and family have transit visa through US. I called Emirate help desk and was told that I would collect my bag at Calagry if I check it in through to my destination... Now, I am confused.... I booked flight through US because it was half the cost of that through Toronto.

Because then you won't have to put your bag on a separate conveyor belt system, have to pick it up in the main terminal, then take it up to a different level and wait in another line to check it with Alaska and pay checked bag fees, which for 8 bags would be $200. US Customs policy is that in all but 3 airports, all passengers must claim their bags to go through US Customs, even if they are connecting to a different country. The only airports that are exceptions to that policy are Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, and Miami.

I will fly Delta from SFO to PVG, and connected in SEA, but the connection time is only 30 mins. Is it an enough time? thanks

Yes, that should be enough time if the first flight is on-time. You just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate which should both be in the S Satellite.

Thanks for the info. Thus, both domestic and international gates for Delta are in the same area?

    Yes they are

I am planning to go from Vancouver to Dubai by AirCanada/Alaska from YVR to SEA and SEA to DXB through Emirates. The connection time between the flights is around 1.30 hrs. Is it sufficient time ?

Are you flying Air Canada or Alaska? They're two separate airlines who are not partners. Did you purchase your tickets together or separately? Will you have checked bags?

Thanks for the reply. No I have not purchased my ticket. What is the difference if I take Alaska vs Air Canada ? Yes, I will have checked in baggages? Do I need to collect my baggage and check in again ?

If you purchase two separate tickets you will need to claim your baggage in Seattle and re-check it with Emirates. You will need at least 2 hours, preferably 2.5 for your transfer if you do this.

Thanks for your reply. I am planning to buy a single ticket through Emirates site. If I have a single ticket is it sufficient time ? Do I need to check in my baggage again in SEA, even if I have a single ticket? Also, is there any difference between taking Alaska vs Air Canada from YVR? PS: I am not a US or Canadian citizen.

If you buy a single ticket 1 hour should be enough. You will not have to claim your baggage in Seattle. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. You may also need a US Transit Visa, depending on your citizenship.

Thanks for your reply. Any difference taking a Air Canada vs Alaska flight ?

Also, How much transit time is required while coming back from Dubai?

The Air Canada gates (in concourse A) are closer to where you will depart on Emirates (in the S satellite).

Also, coming back from Dubai you need at least 90 mins, preferably closer to 2 hours.

Thanks for your reply Any pointers on efficiently transiting through SEA ? This is my first time through SEA and having a 1 hour transit time is making me worried.

The S concourse is connected to the other concourses by an underground train, just follow the signs that show S.

Thanks. Does all Emirates flight go from the S ?

Yes, they just have the one daily flight from Seattle and it departs from S.
