Situation 1- Arrive at SEA from YVR via Alaska Airlines with 2 hours and 33 mins to connect to Delta flight to ICN. Not sure whether to have checked bags or not. Situation 2- Arrive at SEA from ICN via Delta with 1 hour and 15 mins to connect to another Delta flight to YVR. Is this enough time, do I have to claim checked bags and re-check them again? Situation 3- Arrive at SEA from ICN via Delta with 1 hour and 55 mins to connect to Alaska Airlines to YVR. Enough connecting time? Have to claim checked bags? Thanks

For Situation 1 it's very easy, all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, shouldn't take more than 30 minutes. you will pre-clear US Immigration in Vancouver. Situation 2 and 3 you will have to claim bags after immigration, clear customs and re-check. I would definitely go with the longer connection.

Thanks Zap! For situation 1, would I have to go pick up checked bags and recheck them for flight to ICN? Actually Situations 2 and 3 will happen because it is two different trips I'm going on. For situation 2, I know it's cutting very close, so you guess most likely they will be able to put me on the next plane if I don't make it? For situation 3, are Delta and Alaska somewhat affliated in the event I miss the Alaska flight, they will be able to rebook me at no charge? Thanks

If both tickets were purchased together you don't have to do anything with your baggage in Situation one - you will pre-clear US Immigration in Vancouver. Yes, Delta and Alaska do have a codeshare agreement.

  • ICN to SEA to YVR
    May 14, 2014
Hi, I'll be returning from Korea to Vancouver via Seattle, my layover is a short 1hr 16 minutes on a Sunday...Is this enough time make it through, or am I likely to miss my flight? Also, will I have to re-check my baggage, or is that automatically done? Thanks!

You will go through US Immigration in the S Satellite, claim your baggage, Go through customs, then you can re-check your baggage and go through security and then take a train or trains to your departure concourse. It will be hard to make your connection in time. However, there are lots of flights from Seattle to Vancouver

  • Amsterdam to seattle
    May 9, 2014
Hey I am flying from Amsterdam to seattle, and want to fly futher to pasco, wa with Alaska Airlines. How much time do i need to transfer?

If you are purchasing tickets separately I would try to leave 2.5 hours, but if you are purchasing them together than 90 minutes is probably enough time.

I have an inbound flight with Delta from beijing to spokane wa via Seattle. Is 1 hr 30 mins layover going to be enough time to make my connecting flight?

Yes, that should be enough time. You will clear immigration in the S satellite. However, as Delta does not fly from Seattle to Spokane, your flight to Spokane is likely operated by Alaska Airlines. As such after clearing immigration you will have to take an underground train to your departure concourse.

  • 2hr connection

I will arrive SEA by ANA and transfer to Southwest for Denver on a Sunday. Is 2 hr transfer time enough?

It will be very difficult as SEA immigration has become quite crowded and you will have to take your bag to the main terminal to re-check it with Southwest as Southwest does not have interline baggage agreements.

Thanks. What about 3 hrs, which I have another choice, but cost another $200 more per ticket.

3 hrs should work. Have you looked at flights on United? If you book a United flight you can just drop your bag at re-check since ANA and United are both in Star Alliance. Alaska and Frontier also fly from SEA to DEN.

Hi Zap, thanks for helping out. My finalized trip is as follow: arr by ANA at 1115 hrs and have 2 option to Tulsa. 1410 hrs flight to Tulsa (same plane) or 1505 hrs flight to Tulsa (change plane), boy Southwest. 1505 hrs give ample time for any delay by ANA while the 1410 hrs is same plane service to tulsa. Which flight will you recommend?

Either one should work. Sorry I didn't see your question earlier.

Thanks Zap. I have booked the 1410 flight and pack all into a hand carry bag. So no check in luggage. Can you advice me the direction after disembarking the plane from Narita?

  • Connection from YVR in Seattle to SNA
    Apr 30, 2014
Our family of four are heading back from a Disney Cruise from Vancouver to Seattle then to San Diego. Looking at reservations and some are showing a 45min window from one plane to another. Is this enough time to get through customs using the kiosk and make the flight? Any info would be helpful.

Forgot to mention that we are looking at United flights.

I need a little clarification - where are you flying from and to? United does not fly from Seattle to either vancouver or San Diego. If you are flying from Vancouver to Seattle you will pre-clear US Immigration in Vancouver and not have to do immigration in Seattle.

The flight from Vancouver to Seattle is on an Air Canada Jazz turboprop plane. It is a code share between United and Air Canada.

OK, and who is flying your flight to San Diego?

  • connecting from emirates to air canada vancouver
    Apr 25, 2014
Hi, I have a 1.5 hrs stopover in Seattle arriving from Dubai on Emirates and connecting to Vancouver, Canada on Air Canada. Do I have to clear customs and retrieve my baggage and do I have enough time to make my connection?

Yes, you will have to clear US Immigration, claim your baggage, and go through US Customs. Then if your bags are tagged through to YVR you should be able to immediately re-check. However, if they're not you'll have to put them on a conveyor to be transferred to the main terminal where you will have to claim them again and take them to the Air Canada ticket counter to be checked. If you have to do that you'll have a tough time making your connection.

Thank you Zap, do I have to go through security again as well? Also are the terminals close together and if not, how long does it take to get from terminal to terminal?

Yes, you'll have to go through security again. There is a train between satellites/concourses. It should take 10-15 minutes.

  • Delta international to domestic connection 1 hour. advice please
    Apr 26, 2014
anyones advise would be be greatly appreciated. first time in SEA-TAC airport. i fly in from japan on Delta DL 166 arriving at 9:06 am with a 1 hour connection to DL skywest DL 4804 to las vegas, departing at 10:06 am. no checked in baggage. how do i make this connection on time? will i have to leave south satellite and go to a security check in the main terminal after immigration. Or do all the security& customs clearing occur in the same building? if someone could give me a detailed outline of the procedures and where i have to go, that would be extremely helpful. am worried will miss the my connecting flight. thank you

Everything will take place in the S Satellite. It will still be tough to make your connection. You will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then go through security and up to the departure level of the S Satellite for your departing flight.

thank you for your fast response ZAP. my flight itinerary does not indicate which terminals for departure/arrival. so i recently checked the flight patterns of DL 4804 SEA-LAS and it said that the most recent flight flew out of terminal B. is this also in s satellite? if not, how do i get to terminal b?

also, in the event that i miss my connecting flight, do you any advice as to what i should do?

The underground train goes directly from S Satellite to Concourse B, so it shouldn't take that long if you have to go to B. If you miss your connection you will be booked on the next Delta flight to LAS.

Hi SL, how's it go? Have you go through in 1 hour? I have upcoming Delta flight same with you. Arriving from Japan, and connecting to San Francisco with 1 hour only layover time. Delta cust service promised me to put in next flight (if I missed connecting flight because of time required at immigration & custom).

  • long walk
    Mar 29, 2014
If I will arrive on delta from jfk and connect o to vancouver how long os the walk and will I make the 45 min to 1 hr connecting flight .will I have to take a train to my connecting flight

If both of your flights are on Delta (not Alaska Airlines codeshare) then they will both be in the S Satellite and you won't have to take the train. You should have enough time.

What happens if its alaska codeshare

If it's alaska codeshare you will have to take the train to the main terminal and possibly another train to the N Satellite.

  • connectin seatle to vancouver
    Mar 29, 2014
Hello im planning to fly in september from jfk to vancouver thru seatle do you think I could make the flight if my connwcting time is 45 minutes to an hr if the flight arrives earlier from jfk based on previous entries u have to recheck your bag again meaning the line will be long like the one when u first come into the airport

You will not have to claim and re-check your bag in on your way to vancouver. You will go through Canadian immigration when you get to Vancouver.

  • International to Domestic Connection

Hi, Im flying in with Delta from Geneva and will be flying onto Anchorage. I am a bit concerned about the time it will take to get through security/immigration for my connecting flight DL2436. It looks like i have only 1hr 4mins until it departs. Is this possible? Any helpful suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thank you

That will be very difficult, almost impossible to make that connection unless your flight from Europe arrives very early (no airline flies non-stop from Geneva to Seattle). Even though both flights will be in the S-Satellite

Thank you for your quick reply. I forgot to mention the flight does go via Amsterdam. I booked this flight with Delta and this is the itinerary they gave me. If its impossible to get the connection in time what would be my position? Do I get put on the next available flight to Anchorage? I have contacted Delta, but as yet no response. I wonder why they give you an impossible transit time?

Yes, they'd book you on the next available flight to Anchorage. If you do miss your connection and what they offer you isn't satisfactory, push for them to book you on Alaska Airlines to Anchorage (who has many more flights).

Thank you again for your reply. Ive now spoken to Delta and although they admit it will be tight doing that transit in 1hr 4 min. If I want to change the flight now to a later one I will have to pay. They advise sticking to what I have and if I miss the connecting flight I will be put on the next one at no extra cost. I was hoping they would be a little more flexible and pre-empt the problem by making the change now :-)

I have a Delta flight from Phoenix to Seattle then connecting to Seoul Korea my layover is 1hr 20 minutes. Is that enough time to transfer my luggage and for us to board the plane to Korea?

Both Delta & Korean airlines use Satellite South, which has gates S1-S16. If you bought both flights on one ticket, your bags will automatically be transferred. You have enough time.

  • Connection Time
    Feb 19, 2014
I arrive in Seattle on Delta Flight 1929 at 12:12pm and I have a connecting Delta Flight 589 to Shanghai at 12:50. Is 38 minutes enough time for the connection? (Flight day is Sat, Feb 22nd)

Yes, it should be if your first flight is on-time. All Delta flights in SEA operate in the S Satellite concourse.

Please Help Me. I arrive on Delta from Korea and depart on Delta for LA, can you give me directions upon reaching the airport. This is my first to be at this aiport. I have 1:14 to change plane, will that be enough? THANK YOU SO MUCH for your help.

You will arrive in the S-Satellite where you will go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US customs, and re-check your baggage, then go through security and up to the departure gate level (your flight to LA will also be in the S-Satellite if it is operated by Delta and is not an Alaska Airlines codeshare flight).

  • Connection Gates
    Feb 12, 2014
My parent will arrive on Delta(S Gates) and connect to DL 9190. DL 9190 is operated by Alaska air as AS 672. Alaska Air uses C Gates, D Gates and N Gates. Which gates should they go? Delta's Gates (S Gates), or Alaska's Gates(C Gates, D Gates, N Gates)? Thank you.

From your previous post it appears your parent will go through immigration in the facility in the S-gates, then claim bags, go through customs, re-check bags, and go through security. Then he or she can take the train to the main terminal and then go to the C, D, or N gates where his or her Alaska Airlines flight will depart. It's more likely 632 will depart from C or N than D.

It is so helpful to read the information you provided. I appreciate your time and effort.
