  • Baggage storage in airport
    Sep 9, 2016
Hi, I have a 7 hours layover time in Seattle, and would like to head out to the city for a couple of hours. I've planned to leave my luggage at Ken's Baggage and Storage, and noted that it is located within the baggage claim area. Is this before or after security check? Since it is within the baggage claim area, how do I get back to them to collect my luggage? I'll have to check in to Alaska Airlines for my next flight to Fairbanks, how far is the distance or duration needed to get from Ken's to the Alaska Airlines counter for check-in? Thank you!

The domestic baggage claim is accessible by the public. It should take less than 10 minutes to get from baggage storage to the Alaska check-in desk.

How early should I arrive if my flight is at 630am? I've never flown out of SeaTac before.

4:30-5 AM should be sufficient. closer to 4:30 if you have to check bags.

  • Short Layover in SEA Between San Diego and Edmonton
    Aug 30, 2016
In October, I will be flying from San Diego to Edmonton via Seattle. How can I tell if I will clear customs in Seattle or Edmonton? If Edmonton, is 40 minutes enough of a layover (if the arriving flight is on time)?

There is no US Immigration when leaving the US. you will go through Canadian Immigration and Customs when you get to Edmonton. All you do in Seattle is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. 40 minutes is possible.

  • LAX to HKG via SEA
    Aug 22, 2016
I will be flying Alaska from LAX to SEA and then transfering to Delta to HKG. I will have 1 hour only for connecting the flight. Following are my questions. 1. Will I have to claim my bags when arriving in SEA and recheck-in again at Delta counter? 2. Will I have to go through the security check at SEA again? 3. Will I have enough time connecting the flights? Thank you so much for your time.

Are both flights on the same reservation or two separate reservations?

They are on 2 separate reservations. If I will have to recheck the bags and go through security check at SEA, how many hours before should I at least be at the check in counter? Thank you.

Yes, if you purchase two separate reservations you need to do all that and you need at least 2.5 hours on your way to HKG and 3 hours on the way back.

    Thank you for your replies!

  • Connecting Flights
    Aug 9, 2016
We are flying from Edmonton, Ab (YEG) to San Diego (SAN) on Aug12th. We have a 45 min connection in Seattle (SEA), 7:00 to 7:45 am. Will that be enough time to make our connection? Will we have to change terminals and how far approximately will the gates be? (booked on same reservation)

Yes, that should be enough time. Seattle only has one terminal. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Edmonton. All you have to do in Seattle is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Great to hear! Thank you for your very quick reply!

  • KEF to LAX via SEA
    Jun 29, 2016
We will be flying Icelandair from KEF to SEA before changing to a connecting Alaska Air flight to LAX. Everything is booked on same ticket and there is 2 hours between connecting flights. 1. Will my bags be checked all the way through or will I have to collect them when arriving in SEA and recheck them for the flight to LAX? 2. Do I have to go through passport control at SEA? 3. Should 2 hours be enough time?

In Seattle you will arrive in the S Satellite, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security, and take the underground train to your departure gate in the C, D, or N concourse. You should have enough time.

  • Security on Friday afternoons
    Jul 29, 2016
I leave from downtown Seattle to the airport at 12pm Friday. My flight is at 1:51pm through Delta. This is really close but any idea how security is on Friday afternoons? My guess is 12:00 -- to airport --> 12:40pm -- security --> 1:20pm Should I reschedule?

Yeah, I don't think you can make that.

I have a flight in a couple months returning home from Okinawa. I'll leave from Naha airport for a two stop trip to Seattle with Air Canada. I will then have a separately booked flight with Delta from SEA to DEN. How will this connection work? Will I be going through immigration and customs in Seattle (I have a US passport)? Will I have to recheck my bags if I end up checking any? Basically will I have to exit the airport and reenter as if starting from the beginning? My flight from OKA is scheduled to land at 3pm and my flight to Denver leaves at 6:30pm, will there be enough time to do whatever it is I will have to do?

I apologize for posting this as a reply, I thought I was posting a new comment but clicked on the wrong link.

  • Baggage Seattle

Fling standby non rev Phoenix Seattle with checked bags Do I need to pick up bag before going standby Narita

Are both nonrev bookings on the same reservation and airline? I highly recommend against nonrevs having checked bags, especially when there's connections involved.

  • International flight check-in: can you check in AT the boarding gate?
    Jun 13, 2016
I booked two separate tickets: the first from YKM (Yakima) to SEA on Alaska Air, the second from SEA to SFO, SFO to Beijing, through United Airlines. I'll have cleared YKM security already when I arrive at SEA, but will NOT have checked in yet for my Seattle to Beijing flight. Will I be able to check in at the United boarding gate after deplaning my Alasa flight without having to go through security again, or will I need to exit the terminal, check in for my Seattle-SanFran-Beijing flight, then go through Sea-Tac security? I can manage doing carry-ons only, but the kicker is that I don't have much time between flights. Any advice or insight much appreciated.

If you don't have checked bags you should be able to check in at the departure gate in Seattle.

    Jun 13, 2016

Yes, that should be plenty of time.

  • Customs Question
    Jun 10, 2016
My travels take me from: Franktfurt --> Seatle --> Vancouver, B.C. Do I need to take my luggage through customs in Seattle and then re-check for the last leg to Vancouver?

Yes, you have to go through US Immigration, claim your bag, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate.

  • Luggage help at South terminal for international arrival
    Jun 10, 2016
My elderly parents will be arriving at Seatac from Singapore (Eva air). My dad is 74 and probably will needing help with the luggage. Does anyone know whether there is luggage service/help at that terminal? This is prior to Custom and passport control. Once they are up in the main terminal, i can provide the help. Thanks in advance for any info/advice.

There should be carts available for use in the International baggage claim.

  • YYC-SEA-LAX-SJO connection
    May 4, 2016
I am wondering if I will have to pickup my luggage in SEA before continuing my trip. I only have a 1 hour layover scheduled. What will I need to do in SEA? Thank you for your help.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Calgary. All you have to do in Seattle is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate as long as everything is on the same reservation.

  • Need Help with Advice for Dad
    Jun 10, 2016
My 83 y old. Dad is connecting thru SeaTac in a couple of weeks. His 1st time flying in many years. Based on what I can see, he will be flying into B concourse and flying out on A. He has about an hour, so I know that should be plenty of time. I want to give him specific, detailed instructions. Any help, info or advice appreciated.

All he has to do is follow the signs from his arrival gate to his departure gate.

Can you please give an idea how far it is from concourse B to concourse A? would he be walking or taking a train? does SeaTec provide assistance to someone older who might get easily confused?

It shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes. They are directly connected to each other. It's very simply. Unless your father has alzheimer's or dementia I think you really underestimate his ability to follow signs and walk through an airport.

  • Help
    May 1, 2016
I will have a trip from Hong Kong (ASIA) to Canada ,and I will transfer in SeaTac I have been notice that I need to pass immigration and recheck luggage when i go to canada calgary(FROM S GATES TO A GATES), but do I need to pass immigration and recheck luggage when I go back to Hong Kong?Plz help.(MY RETURN TRIP 'S FLIGHT WILL ARRIVE FROM A GATES OR G GATES AND DEPART ON S GATES) CAN U TELL ME WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?

On the return to Hong Kong, you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Calgary. In that direction, all you have to do in Seattle is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

HELLO ZAP but according to Delta there are 2 flights to choose one of my flights arrive from A GATES AND OTHER ONE ARRIVE AT S GATES , does s gates only for international arrivals? (CALGARY TO SEATAC) and whats the differnce between flights from a gates and s gates

All International flights into Seattle (except from precleared locations in Canada, like Calgary) arrive in the S gates. The S gates are connected inside security by an underground train to the A gates. It takes less than 5 minutes to get between them.
