Shannon Airport SNN serves the County of Clare in the Republic of Ireland, and is now operated by Shannon Group plc.
SNN Airport is located in the town of Shannon, 24 km north of Limerick and 22 km south of Ennis, on the west coast's ‘Mouth of Shannon’ inlet, and accessible via the N19 national route connecting to the N18/M18 Limerick-Ennis-Galway route.
With a long runway and yearly about 1.4 million passengers, Shannon Airport is a hub for Air Lingus and is served by a number of domestic, international, regular and low-fare airlines, offering direct flights to European and North American destinations, as well as by charters to popular vacation venues.
U.S. Customs & Border Protection facility (tel: +353 (6)61 472297) is in the Departures lounge (once you have gone through US inspection, you need to remain in the sterile gate lounge area until boarding the aircraft). It offers preclearance facilities (checked-through luggagage - no need to pick up/drop off) for commercial and private aircraft. Passengers should clear all formalities an hour prior to scheduled departure.
NOTE: Shannon AP is trying out a new combined pre-clearance concept developed as part of EU's 'XP-DITE initiative - aiming to create more efficient security checkpoint by combining European & US pre-clearance checkpoints - complying with two separate sets of regulations. This would enable passengers heading to the US to bypass queue for separate security checks. The trial lasts four weeks.
An on-airport hotel is located at the southeast corner of the Long-Term P1 parking lot, to the left of the entrance circle.
The new passenger terminal at Shannon Airport has two levels:
The Ground level is divided into an arrivals area to the right with immigration hall, baggage carousels, information counter, currency exchane, rental car counters, left luggage, lost property, shop & collect & tourist office. To the left are the check-in desks, airline ticket desks & PRM.
The First level houses a children's play area, a restaurant, bar, & Irish market, boarding card check, passenger screeening, duty-free shop, and access to gates 1-6 (right), gate 7 (center), and gates 8-14 & 106-114 at left. this level also houses the US customs clearance.
Services & Amenities: The Information desk in the Arrivals concourse is open daily 6am-11:59pm (tel. +353 (0)61 712000), and the meeting point is located close to the Information desk.
ICE Currency Exchange is available at check-in area, in the Customs Hall (arriving passengers); and in the Departures Lounge (deppating passengers). An ATM machine is in the Arrivals concourse .Rental car desks are in the Arrivals hall.
Left & Lost Luggage (tel. +353 (0)87 32 85935) is off the Arrivals hall on the corridor link serving coach park 1.
A mail box (no parcels) is adjacent to the Londis shop at Arrivals; a prayer room (with Sunday mass) is in the departure terminal;
The Executive Lounge (Rineanna Suite – tel. +353 (0)61 712497) next to Gate 7and open daily 6am-6pm, is available to members of Aer Lingus Gold Circle, Priority Pass & Airport Angel card holders, as well as to United’s first-class passengers, and is open to all other passengers at a fee of around 25 EUR for up to 3 hrs.
In June 2016 the upgraded Transit Area and European departure gates were completed (after total renovation of transit lounge & restrooms & adding new catering facility & food court). Further 2016 investments
include a range of projects (customer service initiatives, apron reconstruction, fire safety compliance & energy-efficiency).
