SHV Airport Overview
Shreveport Regional Airport SHV is located 4 miles southwest of Shreveport, Luisiana, and is the primary airport for the Ark-La-Tex Region that encompasses north Louisiana, east Texas and southwest Arkansas. The Airport can be accessed via two major Interstate Highways--I-20 (Exit 13 to Hollywood Ave S) and I-49 (Exit 20 to Inner Loop, take Route 511 east exit). With two Runways, it is a primary commercial service airport, served by a number of major Airlines and their affiliates, with flights to Dallas-Ft. Worth, Atlanta, Houston, Memphis, with connections worldwide, as well as to some seasonal destinations. The airport is also an alternate destination for American Airlines flights that cannot land at Dallas-Fort Worth Int'l due to bad weather. Passengers often complain about the lack of air bridges to handle larger aircraft, forcing the passengers to deplane by airstair in bad weather. At present commercial flights account for about half of all operations, with nearly 40% for general aviation and 10% for military operations.
The recently renovated terminal offers wireless interenet access and a restaurant between the two security checkpoints. The Airport's financial losses for year 2009 account for over $1.1 million.
