St. Croix Henry E. Rohlsen Airport STX
- also referred to as HERA - serves the island of Saint Croix - part of the US Virgin Islands. It is operated by the Virgin Islands Port Authority (who also operates St. Thomas Cyril King Airport).
HERA Airport is located ten miles southwest of Christiansted, on the southwestern side of Saint Croix island.
With a long runway, and an estimated 1.8 passengers annually, St. Croix Airport is served by major U.S. airlines and by commuter carriers - so-called 'island hopper' planes - who shuttle between islands.
Aside from 'island hoppers', there is also a quick ferry service available during high season between Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas and Christiansted .
It is expected that Finnair will offer again flights from Copenhagen, Denmark, between between Nov. 2016 & April 2017,using its large carrier BO747.
The spacious passenger terminal at St. Croix Rohlsen Airport with 10 airline gates is open 5:30am-11pm.
Present and future Airport developments:
In October 2016, the Airport received a grant was from the FAA for 'airport facility improvements'. VIPA intends to use this grant for major airfield and passenger terminal upgrades:
- Runway 10-28 rehabilitation and sealing & remarking Taxiway A's midsection; as well as Taxiway B at genera laviation.
- Upgrading the passenger terminal's security access control system.
Starting and completion dates have not yet been announced.
