In 2013 the Airport has been voted by travel fans around the globe as offering the 'most stunning landing in the world'.
SXM Airport is on St. Martin Island, about 15 km northwest of the town of Philipsburg, and is a hub to its immediate neighbors on Saba, St. Eustatius, Anguilla & St. Barths islands.
With yearly an estimated 1.6M passengers, Princess Juliana Airport ishub to Windward Islands Airlines and is gateway for the smaller Leeward Islands of Anguilla, Saba, St. Barth & St. Eustatius. The short runway of 2,433 meters presents a challenge to airline pilots.
The two-level air-conditioned passenger terminal opened in 2006 and houses Arrivals at the Ground level and Departures on the first level with four airbridges. Self-serve check-in kiosks at Departures area and have been recently added, and its 'most sophisticated security system in the Caribbean' has been activated. New concessions were also recently added.
Terminal facilities include 42 check-in desks, 8 transit-desks and 11 boarding-gates, 10 immigration and 5 emigration booths. Amenities include ATM machines, internet access (you can purchase 'airtime' from TelEm vending machines); some 40 shops and 12 food & drink establishments, some of which are unique to St. Maarten.
