Stuttgart International Airport STR
(with the added name 'Manfred Rommel') serves the city of Stuttgart and its surrounding areas in the German State of Baden-Wurttenberg. ACI has given the Airport in June 2014 'Best Airport Europe' award for airports in the 5-10M passenger/yr range.
STR Airport is located on the boundaries of the town of Leinfelden, Echterdringen, Filderstadt and Stuttgart proper, and is reached via exits 53 of highway A8, or from the B27. With 10.6 million passengers in 2016, the Airport is a hub for the German low-cost carriers Germanwings and TUIfly, and is also served by a multitude of domestic and foreign, low-cost and regular airlines offering direct and connecting flights to European cities and beyond. In addition, seasonal charter flights are available to popular vacation destinations.
The on-Airport 4-star Moevenpick Hotel Stuttgart Airport is within walking distance of the passenger terminals, but also offers free shuttle service. (In September 2016 it was announced that a second hotel Hotel Movenpick is to beconstructed 490 feet from the current one - with access to the S-Bahn (subway) and (planned) intercity Express /ICE airport station. The 262-room hotel will house a 150-set restaurant and 100-seat bar. )
Stuttgart International Airport has four terminals under one roof - T1 through T4.
NOTE: SITA completed in April 2017 its installation of the Scan&Fly self-service baggage drop units at Terminal 1, when Eurowings passengers were the first ones to enjoy this service, now enabling them to check in and drop baggage under one minute - alleviating congesion. In the coming months it is expected that Terminal 3 will also get these units.
