Tampico Mina TAM Airport Overview

Tampico Mina International Airport TAM serves the northeast Mexican state of Tamalipas and the metrpolitan areas of Tampico, Cidudad Madero and Altamira. It is operated by the OMA Group. Tampico is the main seaport in northeastern Mexico and the region has major oil & petrochemical industries. TAM Airport is located within the city of Tampico.

With three runways nearly 600K passengers a year, Tampico Mina International Airport is served by a number of domestic airlines offering direct flights to Mexican destinations, and by United Airlines offering direct flhts to Houston with connections worldwide.

The passenger terminal at Tampico Mina International Airport houses on the ground level checkin-desks, a waiting room, baggage claim area, customs, cash machine, rental cars, & Information counter, and access to gates 3 & 4. On level 2 it has airline gates 1 & 2. The terminal offers a newsstand, food & drink and shops, a pharmacy and the lottery.

Parking at Tampico Mina International Airport is available at the parking lot across from the passenger terminal for short- and long-term parking. Parking fees must be paid inside the terminal at either automated payment machines taking cash only or at the manned payment booth taking cash, Visa or MasterCard. Cash needs to be in Mexican pesos.

To get from Tampico Mina International Airport to your destination, you can rent a car, take a taxi, or a shuttle-van. Authorized taxi or van service is available to the city and surrounding areas and their rates are based on a zone system, the type o vehicle and the number of passengers. Fare tickets can be bought at the taxi kiosk.  TTT taxis accept ca only (tel. 833-228-4588) and it has a kiosk right next to the rental car desks on level 2.

Current and future Airport developments:  As the current Airport is in a densely populated area, it was decided to replace it with a new airport 40 km north of the present one, and covering 1,200 hectares - large enough for needed 3 runways and a passenger terminal able to handle up to 1M passengers a year.  Commissioning is to be early 2015.
