Tashkent Yuzhny International Airport TAS (or Toshkent Xalqaro Aeroporti Janubiy) - at an elevation of over 1,000 feet - serves the City of Tashkent, in Uzbekistan, and is at present the largest Airport in Central Asia.
TAS Airport is12 km from the city center of Tashkent. ( Yuzhny Airport has no official aiport site. )
With two very long runways and an estimated 20.5 million passengers a year, Tashkent International Airport is hub to national 'Uzbekistan Airways', which accounts for its main air traffic, and is also served by international airlines, offering direct and connecting flights to all points of the globe.
The Uzbekistan Airways can be reached in Tashkent at tel. (998) 71 140 0200; in Moscow at tel. (495) 229 3913. While the Airport is owned and operated by the Government, no official Airport site could be ascertained.
Tashkent YuzhnyInternational Airport has three terminals: Tashkent International (T2) and Tashkent Domestic (T3) and the Transfer Terminal. T2 & T3 are on opposite sides of the runway. The Domestic terminal also offers flights to the ancient cities of Samarkand, Bukhara & Khiva.) Note: Tavelers have pointed out that travel to Samarkand should be done by rail, rather than using a taxi. A class upgrade for the train journey is inexpensive and safe.
International Terminal 2 can handle 1,000 passenges an hour. While recent renovations in the departure area relieved some of the previous congestion - passengers for international flights should still arrive 90 minutes prior to departure.
International Terminal 3 - opened in 2011 - can handle up to 400 passenger an hour.

A so-called booking office (tel. +998 71 233 3459) located in the airline offices on level 2, addresses reservations or cancelations, and other fight-related inquiries.
Many travel agencies offer excursions throughout the country, as well as leisure options in homes, lodges & guest houses around Uzekistan.
NOTE: A new & spacious Uzbekistan Airways' Business Lounge, opened April 2016, offers seating for up to 160 passeners, has a separate room for mother-and-child care with play area, and offers showers, medical center, free Wi-Fi access & duty-free.
Also, the Arrivals Hall for business-class passengers has been overhauled.
Future Airport Developments: A $4M feasibility study for a new terminal with a capacity of handling 1,500 passengers an hour, is to be developed & carried out by Korean company KOICA - with actual construction to start between now and 2019.
Currently of the three existing terminals only two serve the general public, with total capacities of 1,700 passengers per hour .
