Tirana TIA Airport Overview

Tirana International Airport TIA, officially named ‘Tirana International Airport Nene Tereza’ (after Mother Theresa, born in Albania), serves the country of Albania, which has has a 450 km of Adriatic and Ionic shore line with numerous beaches, as well as mountains and national parks. Neighboring countries are Montenegro and Kosovo in the north & northeast, Macedonia in the east and Greece in the south. The State of Albania, along with the Airport, had celebrated its 100 years of independence on Dec. 20, 2012.

The Airport is located in Rinas, 17 km from the capital city of Tirana, and can be reached by the new access road leading from the Tirana-Durres motorway.

With an estimated 1.7 million passengers in 2012, domestic, international, regular and low-fare airlines offer direct flights to a host of destinations, with connections around the world. Seasonal charters offer flights to popular vacation destinations.
 
The passenger terminal at Tirana International Airport opened in 2007 and was extended in 2009. It offers the following services and amenities:
Airline ticket counters (in the check-in area are open daily 9am-5pm); Free internet access throughout the terminal; 2 ATM cash machines by ABA: one is opposite the check-in hall with dual currency; the other is at Arrivals with all currencies.
Multimedia kiosks are in Departures; and telephone booths are opposite the check-in hall and at Arrivals.
The terminal also offers a good selection of shops located in the Arrivals & Departure areas and in the Check-in Hall. A duty-free shop is in the Departure area.
 
Parking optionsat Tirana Airport: Parking is available at the parking lot across from the new passenger terminal, which is divided into covered area P1 and uncovered area P2. 
For both the first 15 mins are free.

Rental car counters
for Hertz, Sixt, Avis & Europcar are located next to the exit at the Arrivals area and open 9am-5pm
 
To get from Tirana International Airport to your destination, you can rent a car, take a taxi or a bus.
(a) Taxi service at the Airport is provided by ATEx for individuals and groups, and is available 24/7. Licensed taxis are grey with a red ATEx logo (tel. +355 68 20 4598 or mobil: +355 68 20 49598). The trip into Tirana city takes about 20-25 minutes and costs 17 EUR. ATEx taxis go anywhere and are located in all cities in Albania.
(b) The Rinas ExpressBus runs hourly between the Airport and Tirana center (National Museum) 6am-6pm, and the fare is about 2 EUR.
