Travelling from Edmonton to Toronto with a connection to Miami. Will I have to pick up luggage in Toronto or will it go straight through. On WestJet all the way

Unless there is an issue you shouldn't have to claim your bags in Toronto.

I have flight from Manila to Toronto under Philippine Airlines, but has a connecting flight from Vancouver to Toronto under WestJet Airlines. Do I have to get my baggage in Vancouver? Or will the airlines take care of transfer, and I will be able to get my baggage directly in Toronto? Thank you!

Yes, I believe you will have to claim your bags in Vancouver to go through Canadian customs. However, check with Border Canada once there.

We are travelling from Ottawa to LA via Toronto - do we need to collect our baggage in Toronto and go through security?

Yes, your bags will be waiting for you at US Immigration and Customs Preclearance in Toronto.

Hi, this is my first time visiting Canada. I'll be flying in from Hong Kong to Toronto and then transiting here to Saint John, NB at the end of January. I will have close to 4 hours before my flight to Saint John but I'm confused about the procedures. When I get off the plane, do I need to go through customs and border control? Do I need to pick up my luggage and then recheck in my luggage?

Yes, you will go through Canadian Immigration and Customs. They will tell you whether or not you have to claim your bags, I believe you will. Canada is in a weird state right now where people coming from some countries have to claim their bags to go through customs and some countries don't.

Yes, in Toronto you will have to go through US Immigration and Customs preclearance. Your bags will be waiting for you there.

Hello, From what I have been reading I'll have to collect my bags in Toronto during my connection. I'm flying in from Calgary with my connection in Toronto to Atlanta. I land in Toronto at 6:38am and my flight from Toronto to Atlanta leaves at 8:15am. Am I going to have enough time to get my bags and get through security and still make my Atlanta flight? Thanks, Scott

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You will proceed directly to US Immigration and Customs preclearance when you get to Toronto.

Hello. I am leaving from Dublin (Air Canada Rouge) - with a 3.5 hour layover in Toronto YYZ Terminal 1 - then landing in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada YAM (Air Canada Express). Will I have to claim and recheck my baggage in Toronto? As well as go though Customs and Immigration? Thanks! I'm not sure if this matters, but I'm a US citizen.

You will go through Canada Customs and then proceed to pick up your baggage. Follow connection sings and drop your baggage off on the connection belt. From there you will go to D Gates and make your final flight.

I have two separate tickets Flying from YDF via West Jet arriving YYZ at 1537 Leaving YYZ via Air Canada at 1800 to YVR arriving at 2000 and on to SYD at 2345 Do I claim my bags in YYZ and recheck them in or can I have them directed all the way to SYD, do I have to clear customs and if so where? Also will there be enough time in Toronto to do this? Thanks.

You will have to claim your bags in Toronto, take them on the train to Air Canada and re-chekc them then go through security. There is no Customs when leaving Canada. You will go through Australian immigration and customs when you get to Sydney.

Thanks, so will 2 and half hours be sufficient to do this?

  • HELP!! Airline ships bag from a domestic trip to Toronto CA!!

Long story short my luggage was sent to the Toronto airport by United Airlines. I was headed from San Francisco to Portland ME and due to engine issues was taken off the plane - my luggage was not. Supposedly my bag is in Toronto CA airport but United Airlines has not been able to either find it and/or put it on a plane to Portland ME. Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Nancy

It's likely in the immigration facility in Toronto and may take awhile to get to United's bag office. There's also no direct flights from Toronto to Portland, so to get it to Portland they will have to send it to one of their US hubs first and will have to send it as cargo, not checked baggage, which will also make it take longer. I suggest that unless you are going to be in Portland a long time, that they just send it back to San Francisco - they can ship it freight on a nonstop Air Canada flight. Of course they'll have to find it first.

  • Do I need to collect luggage and clear customs?

Hi I'm flying in from Manchester UK to Toronto Pearson and then on to Windsor, Ontario with like a 6 hour layover. Do I have to collect my luggage, clear customs and then recheck in in departures? Or is there an interconnecting flight desk for this?

    What airlines are you flying?

    Air transat and air Canada

Since you purchased two separate reservations you will arrive in Terminal 3, go through Canadian Immigration, claim your bags, and go through customs, then you will have to take the terminal link train to Terminal 1, re-check your bags with Air Canada, get your boarding passes, and go through security.

  • Baggage and connection in Pearson

I will be flying from Montreal (YUL) to Abu Dhabi with a connection in Toronto Pearson. I made the flight reservation with Etihad Airways, but the ticket indicates that the first segment (Montreal to Pearson) will be operated by Air Canada. My question is the following: do I need to get my baggage in Pearson and re-check it with Etihad? Thx!

Since everything is on the same reservation you don't have to do anything with your bags in Toronto.

  • Do I have to get my own bag?

So I'm flying home from Rome flying AC and then I am headed to the US flying AA. So I know I have to change terminals but my question is can I have a friend who is coming back from Rome with me get my bag from the carousel or do I HAVE to pick it up myself? I do not plan on taking it onto my US destination. The tickets were purchased separately.

The bag bay be sent to the US and not available for pickup.

My tickets are completely separate so my bag will not be continuing. But is someone else from my flight home from Rome be able to get my bag to take home and me continue onto the other terminal without collecting my bag.

Yes, it's possible, but if they are pulled aside by Canadian customs they'll have a lot of explaining to do as to why they have somebody else's bag.

Speed things up. Allow 2 checked bags up to a certain weight limit at no charge. Allow ONE carry on bag that will fit under seat at no charge. Charge HIGH FEES for any additional carry on items.

  • Connection at Pearson before San Jose

I'm flying from Vancouver to Pearson and have a 2 hour layover before my flight to San Jose. Will I have to recheck my baggage or just go through customs at Pearson? Both flights are Air Canada.

I assume you are flying to San Jose, Costa Rica. In that case all you have to do in Toronto is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. There is no Canadian customs when leaving Canada.
