  • Flying from Nashville TN to Toronto with long layover
    May 27, 2016
We are flying from the US to Toronto and have an 8 hour layover before Dublin flight. We would like to explore Toronto for a few hours. Will that be a problem and suggestions for an afternoon in Toronto?

If you're looking to get to the downtown city core, you'd definitely want to take the UPExpress. It will get you from the Airport (Terminal 1) to Union Station within a matter of 25 minutes. When exiting Customs after arriving in Toronto, there's a kiosk booth to purchase tickets. $12/per person. When you reach Union Station, you are literally a 5-10 minute walks from iconic Toronto landmarks. CN Tower, Rogers Centre, Air Canada Centre, Hockey Hall of Fame, Habourfront, St. Lawerence Market and many more places to visit; however, you'll need more than an 8 hour lay over to explore. Toronto's multicultural diversity makes for fine cuisine. Located along King St. W between Spadina Ave & University Ave. You can enjoy authentic world class dinning from every place imaginable. Please keep in mind that you should be back at the airport at least 2 hours prior to your scheduled departure. You want to give yourself enough time to get through security and relax before your flight without having to rush. Give or take you'd have roughly 3-4hrs to enjoy some Toronto site seeing. You can also visit the UPExpress website to purchase tickets in advance. Please make sure to be aware of your time. It can go fairly quickly when you're in the heart of Toronto. Safe travels, I hope this helps. :)

Thank you! Looking forward to visiting Toronto even for a short while. Will we need to move our checked bags or will they be transferred automatically? Thanks

What airline(s) are you travelling with?

    Air Canada

  • CLE-YYZ-ANU and back same way
    May 20, 2016
Looking at flight from CLE to YYZ ... overnight layover ... looking to stay close ... flight to ANU leaves @6:30am ... gather I need to be REAL early to check in to make flight to get through security? Way backsame way but no overnight ... layover 2.45 hrs ... trust enough time to get through Canadian and then US customs? Or are us customs when i land in CLE? Heard good and bad on connecting through YYZ from US to international ... any feedback is welcome. Thanks!

Add on to my org post. All flights are on Air Canada. Flight is cheap - is there a reason? buys beware? Its the customs process for canada and us that bother me here ... thinking i deal only w/ canadain customs from CLE-YYZ ... then early AM flight ... i do not see too much concern other than security/bag check which I try and do only carryon .. then Antigua customs ... way back, when do I hit Canadain/US customs if I jump on plane to US 2.45 hrs later? Thanks much

  • Getting baggage and customs
    Apr 28, 2016
Hello. So I am coming back to Canada from Peru next month. I fly into Toronto and have a short layover then am supposed to carry on to Regina. I've decided to stay in Toronto for a couple weeks and buy a seperate flight later on so will not be getting on the connecting flight to Regina. I am wondering when I land in Toronto do I collect my checked bags there and go through customs or does this happen in Regina? Would I have to cancel the connecting flight so I do get my bags or do we automatically get them upon first entry into Canada? Thanks!

Air Canada has just changed their policies but it may not apply to every origin city. You will have to ask the Air Canada agent in Peru.

  • From Cuba through YYZ to YVR via Westjet
    Apr 28, 2016
I will be coming back to YVR (Vancouver) from SNU (Santa Clara, Cuba) through YYZ (Toronto) via Westjest. It arrives at YYZ at 6:00pm, Saturday. I have 2 flights to YVR to chose from: 8pm or 10pm. I'd like to know if 2 hours would be enough to connect in YYZ to YVR via westjet, or I should give it 4 hours to transfer. Thanks!!

THe 8 PM flight should be doable.

  • layover
    Apr 28, 2016
My wife and I are arriving at 2.45pm on Air Canada, our next flight is at 6.55pm to Vegas on Air Canada Rouge. Can we go out the airport, and come back just before our flight

No, not really, since you're transiting to the US you're expected to go straight to US Departures to go through US Immigration and Customs preclearance and not to go to Canadian immigration.

Hi zap even if we have a ETA, we are both smokers, so at least if we can go out and have a smoke or two and come back later, or is it a non starter

Your baggage will be in the connection preclearance. If you don't go there then your bags may not go with you on the next flight.

  • New Delhi - Toronto - Halifax - Is Transit Visa required
    Apr 13, 2016
I am flying from New Delhi (India) to Halifax and have by Air Canada. There is a changeover at Toronto for flight to Halifax. I am travelling on a single entry PR Visa. My port of entry as per my CoPR is Halifax. My query is do I need a transit visa for Toronto. Where will I need to do the immigration check at Toronto or Halifax.

You will go through Canadian Immigration and Customs in Toronto, not Halifax. You will either need to get the port of entry changed to Toronto or get an approval from the Canadian consulate/embassy that it's OK to use a visa with a port of entry at Halifax in Toronto.

  • Layover time from Japan to Toronto to Montreal
    Apr 6, 2016
I currently live in Montreal and going to Japan from Montreal airport to Haneda airport in Tokyo Japan in June by Air Canada for a month. So here is the questions. #1, Do I need 2 hours layover time at Toronto from Montreal flight ? Or 1 hour would be fine? I can pick 1h or 2h. #2, I have 2hrs and 15mins layover time at Toronto from Japan when I go back to Montreal from Japan. Would that be enough time or should I buy 3 hours layover time flights?? #3, at Toronto airport from Japan, I assume I will have to go through immigration, baggage claim, check in baggage and security. Am I correct? I hope to hear from someone very soon. Thank you.

You don't need 2 hours on your way to Japan. All you have to do in Toronto is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. 2 hrs 15 mins should be enough on your return. You assume correctly for #3.

Thanks for your quick reply! One more thing. Does air canada have a foot rest on the international economy flight? Thanks again.

  • Immigration preclearance for US
    Mar 22, 2016
I am travelling from YUL to Atlanta via YYZ. Immigration preclearance from Montreal or YYZ? If at YYZ do I have to collect my bags at YYZ? Beacause there is only 70 mins lay over in between flight at toronto

Preclearance will be in Toronto. You will have to claim your bags there. You should have enough time.

US Customs preclearance probably won't open until 4:30 or 5:00 AM. Just try to take a nap wherever you can http://www.sleepinginairports.net/northamerica/toronto-airport.htm
