Flying in from Manila via Philippine Airlines with stop over in Vancouver to Toronto and a WestJet connecting flight to Ottawa. (1) do we clear immigration in Toronto and check in bags again for westjet? (2) lay over is just 1 hour and 35 minutes, will that be enough to get to connecting flight?

  • Long layover logistics-exit to Toronto?

Hi, I will be traveling from Chicago ORD to Venice VCE with a somewhat long layover at YYZ (5h15m). I would like to exit the airport and see some of Toronto, but am worried about logistics. If I check a bag all the way through, do I need to pick it up and re-check it if I am leaving the airport? I assume I will have to go through Canadian passport control/customs to get out to Toronto and back through airport security on my way back into YYZ? How much time realistically do I have outside the airport? (The Pearson video says to go through Canadian customs and straight to connecting gate without picking up luggage but I think that assumes you have a short connection.)

Addendum: I am a U.S. citizen and will be flying Air Canada for both flights, booked on the same reservation.

You don't have to do anything with your bags in Toronto. You will go through Canadian passport control when you arrive in Toronto. You will have to go through security when you return, but realistically, YYZ is pretty far from anything worth seeing and I would recommend just staying at the airport.

  • From Mumbai to Nashville via YYZ - 2 hours connection

I will be traveling from BOM to BNA via Istanbul and Toronto (YYZ). IST to YYZ Turkish and YYZ to BNA Air Canada and I think both leaves from Terminal 1. Will be traveling on H1 visa (non US citizen), do you think 2 hours connection time is enough to go through US immigration?

Yes, that should be enough time.

Flying in on a red-eye from MEX connecting through YYZ to DCA. (5:55 ARR-7:30DEP) When we were in YYZ recently on a YYZ-DCA direct flight it took us 90 minutes to get through US CBP checkpoint alone. On a connection will I avoid the debacle that is the main CBP checkpoint? Is there a separate checkpoint for connecting passengers, or will I end up in the same awful line I was in on the direct flight. Thanks for help!

If you are in Terminal 1, yes, there is a separate checkpoint for connecting passengers.

    Thanks!

  • 11 hour layover

Hi, I have an 11 hour layover at Toronto, I would be arriving at 9am from Mexico City and my flight to US is until 8pm. I would like to go out and explore the city. I've read that for connecting flights to US you don't have to go through Canadian customs and instead go directly to US customs but I'm guessing that since I want to leave the airport i have to go through Canadian customs. So should I go through Canadian customs and leave the airport and once I come back go to US customs? Is that possible?

If you have checked bags and your bags are checked through to the US, you have to go to US Immigration and Customs preclearance.

  • enough time for connecting flight

Travelling WestJet from YVR to MCO( Orlando international), via YYZ (terminal 3) We have 1hr 15min to make connecting flight to MCO, also terminal 3. Flight arrives at YYZ at 6am. Is this enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time, especially considering the early morning arrival.

    Thank you!

  • Terminal 3 transfer

i booked a ticket from VRA-YYZ on westjet, plan to book another AA flight to US with only 1hour 7 min gap, if the first flight is on time, will 67 mins be enough to do the transfer within terminal 3? Thanks

No, that's not enough time. You will have to go through Canadian immigration, claim your bags, go through Canadian customs, go back out to the AA Check-in Desk, check your bags for your US flight, then go through US Immigration and Customs preclearance, which may find out that you were in Cuba and question you about that.

Thanks, so even I don't have luggage, I have to go out and checkin again?

Yes, They will not have you on their list of transfers at transfer pre-clearance, so you will have to go through Canadian entry procedures, then check in and then go through regular pre-clearance. Also you likely will not be able to check in online for your AA flight while in Cuba.

    thanks!

How long will it take for me to clear customs; arriving on an Air Canada flight from NYC. Thanks

It shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes.

Really?! That seems so fast! Thank you

My Daughter has a flight from Vancouver to England but has a 12 hrs layover in Toronto. Just wondering if she is able to leave the airport during her layover.

    Yes, she can.

Ok that's great I was worried I would not get to see her before she leaves for England.

I am flying from Vancouver to Pittsburgh via Toronto. I have 1hr 15 layover. Will I have to check my bags and go through customs. I ma British by the way. Is 1 hr 15 enough. I will be flying Air Canada on whole trip. Thanks

Yes, that should be enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • Connection time - coming in from Ottawa, going to Amsterdam

Incoming and outgoing on KLM (1 booking), will 50 minutes be enough transfer time?

KLM doesn't fly from Ottawa to Toronto. Is the first flight on Westjet? If so that's barely enough time.

It's indeed WestJet Flight WS3455 coming in from Ottawa connecting to KL696 to AMS on Friday the 14th of October. Is it not in the same terminal? Luggage is checked through right? Thanks for the response!

We booked a WestJet package flying from YYC-NAS. However we have a 3hour layover in YYZ. Will we need to claim bags and go through security at YYZ? Same goes for the return. NAS-YYZ then YYZ-YYC.

On your way to Nassau you just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. On the way back you will have to go through Canadian Immigration and Customs and security. You may have to claim or identify your bags. Procedures regarding bags and customs in Canada are rapidly changing.

  • Connection Wesjet to Alitalia

I will be coming in YYZ from Ottawa on Wesjet and must transfer on Alitalia to go to rome. (1) Will I have to pick up my luggage, (2) Must I go thu security again and (3) I will have 1:30 hr, is that enough? Thank you

If you have two separate reservations, yes, you will have to claim your bags, re-check them with Alitalia and go through security. It will be very difficult to do that in 90 minutes.
