  • Do I have to collect my baggage when connecting ?
    Jul 27, 2016

I flew from Cuba to Ieland and the connection was through Toronto. I was told (by 3 people in the airport) that I did not have to claim my baggage at customs in Toronto as I was not staying in the country so when my luggage did not arrive at the conveyor, I moved straight through to my connecting gate. However, my luggage did not arrive in Dublin. Does anyone know if I should have claimed my baggage at customs in Toronto? I flew into terminal 1 and out of terminal 3 but my baggage was checked the whole way through to Dublin as it was 1 ticket, however, as it did not arrive ( and the airline is not being very useful) I am wondering if I should have claimed the luggage at customs in Toronto. Thanks.

  • YYZ to YOW | Immigration and Baggage claim
    Jul 11, 2016

Hey, I'd to travelling to Ottawa via Toronto via Air Canada(5AM) so I assume my immigration check would be at the port of entry i.e. YYZ. Do I need to claim my baggage after the immigration check or would be transferred to next flight ? My connecting flight is after approx 2 hours, would that be sufficient or I need to act fast as soon as I land to get to the customs first ? TIA.

Air Canada actually has kiosks that some passengers can use in Toronto to clear customs instead of claiming your bags. Check with the Air Canada and Canadian immigrations personnel when you arrive in Toronto. You should have enough time.

Just for future reference, I had to get the baggage from YYZ airport and put it on the belt for Air Canada flight tot YOW after customs check.

Good to know, I think the kiosks might just be for people coming from the US.

  • Do my checked bags go straight to connecting flight

Hi I'm flying from Dublin to St. John's (2hr stop over) - St. John's - Toronto (1hr 12mins stop over) & then Toronto - Edmonton to visit my sister. She travelled the same way but said that I might not have enough time between flights to get backs and re check them. Can anyone please explain to me if I have to after each flight collect bag and re check in at departure terminal desk to put bags through or if as they are connecting flights they just go straight through? I have booked flights with west air and as far as I can tell I am flying with them all the way! Also I noticed Plus fare on their website (is this useful for baggage etc???) thanks everyone x

Sorry west jet I've booked with west jet not west air

You will go through Canadian Immigration and Customs in St. John's. You don't have to do anything with your bags in Toronto - just go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have enough time for both connections.

    Thank you so much

You will do it in Toronto.

  • Vancouver to Toronto to Austin. Can I make my connection?

I'm flying from Vancouver to Toronto, then from Toronto to Austin both with Air Canada, and I have 1 hour and 15 minutes between these two flights. I assume that I'll have to clear customs in Toronto,. Do I have to go through security again? More importantly, will I have time to do all this and make my connection to Austin? I have a NEXUS card (and I'll only have carry-on luggage)

Yes, in Toronto you will head straight to US Immigration and Customs preclearance, with NEXUS you should have plenty of time.

Thanks for the quick reply. I appreciate it.

  • Collecting Baggage in Toronto for Customs before coming to Ottawa

My Sister is coming from UAE with her two kids. Her port of entry is Toronto before reaching Ottawa. When I recently travelled from India to Ottawa via Toronto, I cleared the customs without collecting the baggages. Is this rule still exists? or she has to re-check in the luggages in Toronto?

What airlines is she flying? Are both tickets on the same reservation?

It's on the same reservation. and it's Air Canada flight.

Then yes, that is the same procedure she will follow.

I am flying from Chicago to Toronto on Canada air with a 1 hour gap to catch another Canada air flight to India. It appears I have to go from terminal 1 to terminal 3 for my connection. Will I have to collect my bags and go back through customs ? Will I have enough time?

All Air Canada flights in Toronto are in the same terminal. There is no "Canada Air".

I'm flying from the US to Toronto via West Jet with a connection flight to Edmonton, also West Jet. I'm scheduled to arrive at Pearson at 9:44am and my connection time is about an hour and a half. I will only have a carry-on bag, no checked bags. Typically would this be enough time to make the connection?

Yes, that should be enough time.

Hi, I have a flight arriving from Frankfurt, Germany on Sunday, November 27 with a connection to Kansas City, Missouri, USA. The connection time is only 1 hour and 40 minutes. Is that enough time to go through customs or should I change my flight? Thanks!

In Toronto you will go directly to US Immigration and Customs preclearance. That should be enough time.

I'm flying Air Canada from DFW-YYZ-YVR. I've coordinated my flights with a few family members in Toronto so that we fly to YVR together. Where should I ask them to meet me, knowing that I will go through Customs in Toronto?

Meet at the gate in Toronto.

    Great!

  • Collecting baggage

I am flying from LaGuardia to Toronto with a connecting flight to Vancouver same airline and ticket. Do I need to go to baggage to pick up my bags and recheck them. What is the process for going through customs.

I believe passengers coming from the US are no longer required to claim their bags when passing through Toronto on a connection to another point in Canada. However, ask an airline representative to make sure.

Hi I am flying in with LH to YYZ and then connect on AC to LAX. I have two tickets. One to YYZ from FRA and then the one on AC from YYZ to LAX. I assume that since both carriers are on Star Alliance, I will be able to check my luggage all the way through from FRA to LAX and then in Toronto just do the regular US Customs process, or do you think that I will have to claim luggage, go through Canadian customs first and the proceed to check in for my US flight? Any help would be appreciated Thank you
