I am flying from YXE to Newark via Toronto, all on Air Canada. I have a 3 hour connection. Is it possible during the connection process to exit the secure area to meet up with friends in the airport?

It is probably possible to exit the secure area before proceeding to preclearance if you don't have checked bags. I wouldn't try it if you plan on checking a bag.

  • Connecting on AC from BOS to Tokyo

Coming in toYYZ I terminal on AC from BOS with a connect time of 63 minutes to flight to Tokyo also in I terminal. I have been told that luggage will be checked through and will not have to be collected at YYZ. What clearance will I have to go through and how long should it take at noon time. Is this possible with a 63 min connection? Any pointers for getting through.

You will just go through Canadian passport control. It is possible. Just follow signs to your departure gate.

No, you don't. All you have to do in Toronto is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I'm flying Air Canada from Cleveland into Gate F90 with an arrive time of 7:40 am and I'm flying out of Gate E75 with a 10 am departure. I'm checking my bags in Cleveland for the entire trip. I can't find Gate F90 on the Terminal map. Is this connection time no big deal? Where is the nearest CBSA to Gate F90?

Where are you flying from Toronto to?

I'm flying to Hong Kong at gate E75

The Toronto airport made an easy to follow video to show you what you'll be doing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sQamoJ3yLs

Thanks ZAP, that was very helpful

  • 75 minute layover enough to get through US Customs at YYZ?

I arrive from Tampa on Air Canada Rouge and have 75 minutes to get through US customs and to my gate for a flight to Halifax. Is that possible with a 3 year old in tow?

You don't go through US Customs when arriving from the US, you go through Canadian Immigration and Customs. That will be a very difficult connection but I think it is possible, and there are likely later flight to Halifax you can be rebooked on if you miss it.

I am coming from Philadelphia and llanding in Terminal 3 on American Airlines.I have to go through customs, grab my bags and recheck on Air Canada to go to Vancouver in Terminal 1. Is 1.5 hours enough time to do this?

That will be very difficult if not impossible.

Dang it. When I booked I didn't realize I had to change terminals. Thanks for your advice, I'm going to try and book at later connection.

Do you think 2.5 hours is enough? The travel agent seems to think that even that is too risky given weather delays, etc. It's the last flight of the night to Vancouver, too. At this rate I'll have to just stay overnight in TO.

I think 2.5 hours would probably be doable, especially if you check-in for your Vancouver flight ahead of time.

have a late arrival with westjet from MBJ at 12:26 am and a domectic connection leaving at 10:15 am. Can I collect my bags and then place them on the connections conveyor even with this long layover?

You'll have to ask the agent on duty. My guess is no.

  • Westjet luggage

When flying Westjet international flights through Toronto lately I seem to have a luggage issue. It seems that I need to pick up my luggage where everybody else does. Then I have to haul it upstairs to the Westjet checkin kiosk and go through the whole line again. When I fly Air Canada it seems that my luggage gets sent to a location inside where I just move it a few feet and then clear customs unless they want to check it or sometimes it is checked all the way through to my US destination. Is this just a Westjet thing or Am I missing something.

  • Minimum connection time

I am arriving on a domestic flight inTerminal 1 which originally gave me 60 minutes to get to the international gate in Terminal 1 for the next leg of my trip. The connection time has now been changed to 52 minutes. Is this a legal connection time.

That should still be enough time.

I have a one hour and 38 minute layover in Toronto to get to Denver. I have a checked bag, and a cat as carrying (she is going in the cabin with me, and I have reserved a spot for her, and have the needed paper work). Do I have enough time? Will I be going through customs and security in TO? Do I need to recheck my bags? Or do I need to go through customs in Denver? I am worried that either way I will miss my connection flight (I only have an hour layover in Denver). I am flying on the 31st. Thanks!

Yes, you should have enough time. You will preclear US immigration and customs in Toronto. You will claim your bags in Toronto to go through US customs then immediately recheck them. All you have to do in Denver is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Yes, you will have to claim your bags in US Preclearance in order to go through US Customs. You will immediately re-check them afterwards. You should have enough time.

I am flying from YQY on Air Canada Jazz and connecting to Air Canada Rouge to San Diego through YYZ. Will I have to collect and recheck baggage? Is two hours enough time to make this connection?

Yes, upon arrival in Toronto you will follow signs to the US Departures area. When your flight number is called you will go in, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US customs, re-check your bags, and go to your departure gate.

I am flying Swiss air from Los Angeles with connecting flight in Toronto. When I arrive in Toronto how long does it take to the international departure area Swiss Air to Copenhagen? Appreciate some info.

Swiss does not fly nonstop from Toronto to Copenhagen. If you are flying from Toronto to Copenhagen you are on SAS, not Swiss, and your flight to Toronto will be operated by Air Canada. You just have to follow signs to your departure gate after you arrive. you will go through Canadian border control to access the gate area. As long as you have at least 1 hour for your connection you should be OK.
