  • Flying in from Canada connecting the USA

I'm use to flying through YYZ from Moncton, NB and going through connection with scan of passposts, look at monitors to see name, go through customs, etc. But this time I'm leaving airport for a few hours as I have a long layover. Do I have to do anything different? Will I need to acknowledge my luggage on the monitor before I leave airport or can I just leave and handle all of that when I come back 5 hours later? Thank you. Bob

By the way, I'm flying in and departing into Toronto on Air Canada and flying to the USA on Air Canada which are both in Terminal 1. I've done this many times before. The only difference is the long layover so not clear what I'm suppose to do differently?

I do not know what will happen if your baggage is left in the preclearance area. It will probably be there when you return, but I can't guarantee it. You could ask that your bags only be checked to YYZ, claim them, and then re-check them upon your return to YYZ.

Arriving from Detroit (Terminal 3 I think) Do I need to clear customs there before boarding shuttle to Terminal 1 to catch an Air Canada flight

Yes, you will have to go through Canadian Immigration, claim your bags, and go through Canadian Customs.

I am coming in on a United/Air Canada Rouge flight from San Diego at 7:15 pm and connecting to Air Canada Rouge on to YQY. Do I need to change terminals? I have 1:40 to make this connection.

You should not have to change terminals, but you will go through Canadian immigration, claim your bags, go through customs, then re-check your bags and go through security.

  • Connecting at Toronto airport to catch a flight to Edmonton

Hello, I am coming from Franfurt and have a connecting flight at Toronto airport for Edmonton. From this link - http://maps.torontopearson.com/gtaa/page-mapV2.jsp?id=3&name=t1BeforeSecurityL1&t=1, I could not understand how to find correct gate for my Edmonton flight. I have just 1 hour of layover at Toronto. Can anyone guide me about the distance I need to walk to claim the baggage, recheck it and do security check in?

1 Hour isn't enough time for your connection. You need at least 90 minutes.

Flying from Boston to Toronto on Air Canada, then I have a connecting flight Toronto to Vancouver on Philippine Airline. I know I'm going to have to collect my bags in Terminal 1, shuttle to Terminal 3, recheck my bags, and go through customs. Is a 2 hour and 15 minute layover enough time?

We are coming into YYZ on Westjet (Terminal 3) and hoping to fly STANDBY with Lufthansa (Terminal 1) to Munich-only 90 minutes later. Do we have enough time to collect our luggage, ride the train, find Lufthansa agents(who will need to issue us with standby boarding passes) and get to the gate?

Probably not, by the time you get to Terminal 1 you will likely be past the bag check cutoff.

    That should be enough time.

  • Help for daughter making domestic to international connection

My 15 year old daughter is traveling by herself, flying from Victoria to Toronto then onto Europe next Wednesday. She has just over an hour to make the international connected. Aside from advising her to ask Air Canada staff for help, is there any advice I can give her? She is not a seasoned traveller. Thanks!

Making an international connection out of Canada is not difficult. She just has to go from her arrival gate to her departure gate.

Flying RDU to YUL, through YYZ. I can choose between a 1h 15m layover, or 2h 15m layover. Would 1h 15m be enough time? All flights are Air Canada.

1 hr 15 would be a bit of a rush with having to go through Immigration and customs in Toronto. I'd personally book the 2 hr 15.

Am arriving from IAH on UA and connecting with Air Canada to Paris, France. Which terminal am I arriving and which terminal to connect with Air Canada.to Paris. Do I have to go thru immigration again? I am getting very nervous because i read horrible reviews about this airport.

What airport? Were tickets purchased separately or on one reservation?

Toronto Pearson. It is one reservation

Both flights will be in Terminal 1. Yes, you will have to go through Canadian Immigration upon arrival in Toronto.

Flying from Vancouver to Pearson then to Antigua. Do I have to get my bags in toronto or are they transfered? Very short amount of time inbetween flights.

You will not have to claim your bags in Toronto.

I am traveling from ORD to YYZ and on to BCN with 1 hour 3 minutes before my BCN flight. Do I have enough time to get through customs and security. Carryon luggage only. Thank you

    That should be enough time.

I am making this same flight but will have checked luggage. All Star Alliance. Will I have to go through customs and will I have to transfer my checked luggage? It should go through to final destination after being checked at ORD, right?

I will be departing from YOW to YYZ with Westjet on May 19th of the present year then from YYZ to POP (Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic) with a layover of 1 hour. I will not bring any carry on bags just a huge bag which I will be checking in YOW. Do I have to pick up my luggage and drop it off before my next flight to POP if I only have a layover of 1 hour? Or will Westjet be in charge of transferring my bag to the next plane? The tickets are with the same airline

No, you will not have to pick up your bag in YYZ on your way to POP. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.
