  • Halifax to Newark
    Nov 21, 2016
I have a flight from Halifax to Newark. I fly Halifax to Toronto on Air Canada and Toronto to Newark on United. I'll also have a checked bag. I have 1 hr and 35 min layover in Toronto. Will I have enough time to get to my connecting flight? Will I need to recheck my bag? Also if I miss my flight will I just get out on the next one?

Yes, you should have enough time. Ask the officers in US Immigration and Customs preclearance in Toronto if you need to claim your bags. Yes, if you miss your connection you will be rebooked on the next one.

  • Ottawa to Minneapolis
    Nov 17, 2016
I'm traveling from Ottawa to Minneapolis via Toronto on Christmas day (Air Canada). I've done this flight many times, but never on Christmas. My connection time in Toronto is 1h 20min; is this likely enough time to go through customs, etc.? I've had to hurry in the past but don't know if it's better or worse on Christmas (afternoon).

Christmas afternoon should not be busy.

    Thank you!

  • Ottawa to Toronto to Salt Lake City connection time
    Nov 16, 2016
I first booked my flight to have at least a 2 hour connection in between my Ottawa to Toronto, and Toronto to Salt Lake flight. However, the airline changed my 2nd flight to earlier so now I only have an hour layover. Will this be enough time for my connection? Do I need to pick up my bag or go through customs. I've never been to Toronto airport so I'm nervous,

That should be just enough time. You will go through US Immigration and Customs Preclearance in Toronto.

    Thank you! I appreciate it!

  • Halifax to Cozumel via Toronto - connection questions
    Nov 17, 2016
Hello. I am travelling from Halifax to Cozumel (Mexico) via Toronto all on Air Canada. I'm worried that a late departure from Halifax (snow?) could reduce our transfer time in Toronto (currently we have about 60 minutes) I need to get from D gates to E gates. Do we need to go through security or is there a secured corridor? What would be the minimum time needed to do this transfer. Thanks!

All you have to do in Toronto is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

    Thank you very much!

  • Layover in Toronto
    Nov 16, 2016
I want to book a trip from Frankfurt to Regina and should have a 2.5 hour layover in YYZ. I have 2 different reservations but both with Air Canada. The first flight is said to be late 28% of the time. Is that enough time to claim my baggage, go through customs, check in and go through security? Is there a way to not have to reclaim baggage, check in... with 2 different reservations?

  • Connection time with baggage claim
    Nov 15, 2016
Hi. I am a Canadian and will have only 1h50min to change flight from air France coming from Paris to WestJet flying to Edmonton. Will I need to recheck in my luggage and will I have enough time for that with 2 kids along?

If the flights are on two separate reservations, yes, you will have to claim and re-check your baggage and that connection will be very difficult.

First of all thank you for the quick reply. The flights are on the same reservation, but one is Air France and one is WestJet, but booked on same reservation. Do I still need to check in the luggage? and do I need to go through custom at Toronto airport?

    Nov 13, 2016
I've booked a trip to Ottawa from Heathrow changing at Toronoto, just need to know if I need to reclaim my baggage and transfer it to the connecting flight or whether Air Canada will transfer it automatically (both are AC flights on one booking)? Connection time is 1 hr 15 min, so it's a tight one.

  • LGA to YYZ to LGW
    Nov 11, 2016
I am traveling with WestJet from New York LaGuardia airport to Toronto Pearson to London Gatwick all on one reservation. On my way there, I have a 2 hr 50 min layover; on the way back, I have 1 hr 40 min. Is that enough time to make my connections at YYZ? I plan on checking baggage.

Yes, that is possible, although the one on the way back is a little dicey because Westjet's transatlantic flights aren't really known for being on-time and you will have to go through US Immigration and Customs preclearance in Toronto on your way back.

Will I have to claim and re-check baggage going through Toronto?

You won't have to on the way to London and may have to on the way back to New York.

  • Connection from Atlanta to Istanbul
    Nov 10, 2016
I am traveling from Atlanta to Istanbul through Toronto. The connection time is 2 hours. I am on US student visa, but entrance to US of the visa has been expired. Do i need transit visa if i am traveling though canada from US to international connection flight or i dont? Thanks

If you are a Turkish citizen you will need a Canadian transit visa since you are no longer in possession of a valid US Visa.

  • LIS-YYZ-YVR - Clear customs in YYZ or YVR?
    Nov 14, 2016
I am a Canadian traveling from Lisbon to YVR, with a 1hr 20 min layover in YYZ. 2 questions: -Is 1hr20 min enough time to collect my luggage from one airline and recheck it with another? I'm unsure that I'll be arriving and departing from the same terminal (first airline is Azores, second is Air Canada) -Will I need to clear customs in YYZ or at my final destination in YVR? Thank you for your help

No, that's not enough time. In Toronto you will have to go through Canadian Immigration, claim your bags, go through Canadian customs, change terminals, re-check your bags with Air Canada, and go through security.

Thank you, do you think that 2 hours is enough time?

  • travelling from terminal 1 to terminal 3.
    Nov 9, 2016
I am going to manila via toronto aiport, i am from prince edward island arriving at terminal 1, then departure to manila is at terminal 3, my main concern is I only have 2hours layover, is that enough time transferring between terminals? do I need to get my luggage at toronto terminal 1 then check in again at terminal 3?

Are your flights all on one reservation or two separate reservations?

what do you mean by reservation? I book a ticket just once, from prince edward to manila..

OK, then you won't have to get your bags in Toronto, just take the train to Terminal 3 and go through security. You should have enough time.

thank you for the info, one last thing are they gonna allowed a baby stroller up to the gate before boarding or do i need to check in the stroller? i am with my 10months old baby.

You can take your stroller to the gate and gate-check it.

    Oct 24, 2016
I'm flying from Chicago ORD to Dublin Ireland with a 1h20 min layover in Toronto. What will happen as far as immigration/ customs and baggage? I am Irish with a Canadian visa.

In Toronto all you have to do is go through Canadian passport control and to your departure gate assuming both flights are on the same reservation.

  • Have i left enough time?
    Oct 23, 2016
Hi all, I am visiting Canada for the first time. Travelling from Manchester UK to Toronto via Air Transat arriving in Terminal 3. I then have 2 hours to catch an Air Canada connecting flight to Vancouver in Terminal 1. Can anybody tell me how often the bus runs from one terminal to the other & if i would have to check in all over again at Air Canada? Many thanks for any replies. I am very grateful.

It's actually a train to T1 and it runs about every 5 minutes. Yes, you will have to check in all over again with Air Canada. This is a very difficult connection.

Do you have any advice to make the connection any smoother Zap? I don't travel until this Sunday? Do you have any info as to where I will land & where the Air Canada check in desk is? Many thanks.

Air Canada check in desk is the majority of the T1 lobby. Where your flight arrives doesn't really matter as you will have to go to Canadian Immigration and Customs and baggage claim first before proceeding to the train to T1. If you can do the trip without checked bags that would save you a lot of time. Then you could check in online for your Air Canada flight before leaving the UK, then in Toronto just go through Canadian Immigration and Customs and go directly to the train and then directly to Security in T1.

Thank you very much for your advice Zap. I will take hand luggage only in an effort to make my connecting flight. I am very grateful for your help.

Hi Zap, just wanted to update you on my recent post. I took hand luggage only & checked in online as you advise. Made my connecting flight with 10 minutes spare. Thank you so much for your help. I am very grateful x
