  • LIS-YYZ-YVR - Clear customs in YYZ or YVR?
    Nov 14, 2016
I am a Canadian traveling from Lisbon to YVR, with a 1hr 20 min layover in YYZ. 2 questions: -Is 1hr20 min enough time to collect my luggage from one airline and recheck it with another? I'm unsure that I'll be arriving and departing from the same terminal (first airline is Azores, second is Air Canada) -Will I need to clear customs in YYZ or at my final destination in YVR? Thank you for your help

No, that's not enough time. In Toronto you will have to go through Canadian Immigration, claim your bags, go through Canadian customs, change terminals, re-check your bags with Air Canada, and go through security.

Thank you, do you think that 2 hours is enough time?

  • travelling from terminal 1 to terminal 3.
    Nov 9, 2016
I am going to manila via toronto aiport, i am from prince edward island arriving at terminal 1, then departure to manila is at terminal 3, my main concern is I only have 2hours layover, is that enough time transferring between terminals? do I need to get my luggage at toronto terminal 1 then check in again at terminal 3?

Are your flights all on one reservation or two separate reservations?

what do you mean by reservation? I book a ticket just once, from prince edward to manila..

OK, then you won't have to get your bags in Toronto, just take the train to Terminal 3 and go through security. You should have enough time.

thank you for the info, one last thing are they gonna allowed a baby stroller up to the gate before boarding or do i need to check in the stroller? i am with my 10months old baby.

You can take your stroller to the gate and gate-check it.

  • Chicago - Toronto - Dublin, 1h20m layover
    Oct 24, 2016
I'm flying from Chicago ORD to Dublin Ireland with a 1h20 min layover in Toronto. What will happen as far as immigration/ customs and baggage? I am Irish with a Canadian visa.

In Toronto all you have to do is go through Canadian passport control and to your departure gate assuming both flights are on the same reservation.

  • Have i left enough time?
    Oct 23, 2016
Hi all, I am visiting Canada for the first time. Travelling from Manchester UK to Toronto via Air Transat arriving in Terminal 3. I then have 2 hours to catch an Air Canada connecting flight to Vancouver in Terminal 1. Can anybody tell me how often the bus runs from one terminal to the other & if i would have to check in all over again at Air Canada? Many thanks for any replies. I am very grateful.

It's actually a train to T1 and it runs about every 5 minutes. Yes, you will have to check in all over again with Air Canada. This is a very difficult connection.

Do you have any advice to make the connection any smoother Zap? I don't travel until this Sunday? Do you have any info as to where I will land & where the Air Canada check in desk is? Many thanks.

Air Canada check in desk is the majority of the T1 lobby. Where your flight arrives doesn't really matter as you will have to go to Canadian Immigration and Customs and baggage claim first before proceeding to the train to T1. If you can do the trip without checked bags that would save you a lot of time. Then you could check in online for your Air Canada flight before leaving the UK, then in Toronto just go through Canadian Immigration and Customs and go directly to the train and then directly to Security in T1.

Thank you very much for your advice Zap. I will take hand luggage only in an effort to make my connecting flight. I am very grateful for your help.

Hi Zap, just wanted to update you on my recent post. I took hand luggage only & checked in online as you advise. Made my connecting flight with 10 minutes spare. Thank you so much for your help. I am very grateful x

  • Minimum connection time
    Nov 16, 2016
At 7:30 on a Wednesday morning in a week, I'll be flying from Ottawa, to Toronto YYZ, then connecting to Tampa. I booked my flight through Aeroplan, which gave me the minimum connection time of 70 minutes. Am I royally screwed here?

If it helps, I'm carry-on only.

That should be enough time. all you have to do is go through US Immigration and Customs Preclearance and to your departure gate.

You would think, but there are a lot of people online saying 2 hrs minimum about this process. Don't I have to clear security again, as well?

The security is after the preclearance checkpoint, so there's rarely a line. 2 Hours how early you should arrive at YYZ if you are starting there with checked bags on a flight to the US. It really doesn't take that long.

I am flying from Calgary to Dubai with a connection in Toronto. I think I need to pick up my luggage in TO recheck to Dubai. How difficult is this process?

So did it end up being enough time for you? I'm doing the same thing, Ottawa to Toronto but then to Salt Lake City Utah. I booked my flight for 2 hours but they changed it to 1 hour 14 minutes. Did you have enough time?

  • Flying from Anu connect in Yyz to London gatwick
    Oct 19, 2016
Hello I'm flying from Anu- LGW connecting in Yyz. My flight from Anu arrives in Yyz at 8:09 and my flight leaves Yyz to Gatwick 9:15, do you think it's enough time?

Are both tickets on the same reservation or two separate reservations? Do you have checked bags? What airlines are you flying?

Both are on west jet...no checked bags

That should be just enough time. Also there's a good chance your flight to London will be delayed, so that will help you.

  • Winnipeg to Punta Cana via pearson
    Oct 18, 2016
Will we have to collect our bags while connecting on a west jet flight? Or will they just be transfered? We will be flying from Winnipeg to Punta Cana connecting at Pearson.

No, you don't have to do anything with your bags in Toronto.

  • From Calgary tp Pittsburgh through Toronto.
    Oct 15, 2016
If I'm flying a United/Air Canada flight from Calgary through Toronto with final destination of Pittsburgh when do I clear US customs?? In Toronto or Pittsburgh?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Pittsburgh. Both flights will be operated by Air Canada.

    in Toronto

Sorry yes, I meant Toronto, my brain was thinking faster than my fingers.

  • Air Canada /PAL
    Oct 13, 2016
From Ottawa, arriving in Toronto via Air Canada and on to Manila via PAL on one reservation ticket, do I re-check baggage in Toronto?

No, you won't have to do anything with your bags in Vancouver on your way to Manila.

Thanks. Toronto is our connecting flight. Vancouver is a stop over but usually we don't get off the plane. No re-check of baggage in Toronto?

    Yes, that is correct.

  • enought time?

Where are you flying into Toronto from? What airlines are you flying?

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • domestic connection between airlines/terminals and checked bag
    Oct 12, 2016
If I'm travelling from YSB-YYZ on AC then YYZ-YLW on WS and have a checked bag, how much connecting time is realistic to be able to change terminals?

I would want a bare minimum of 2 hours between flights.

  • connecting from US Air Canada to AC flight operated by Austrian Air
    Oct 5, 2016
If I check my bags on flight from Boston to Toronto, do I have to reclaim them during layover and recheck to board the Austrian Air flight (AC flight operated by Austrian--both terminal 1)?

No, you will not have to claim your bags in Toronto on the way to Vienna. You will just go through Canadian passport control and to your departure gate.

Many thanks. AC person told me I would have to claim and recheck. I only have 1:20 layover sonI will pray that you are right 😁

  • Connecting from BOS-YYZ flight to YYZ-ICN
    Oct 4, 2016
I am traveling to ICN via YYZ. Currently scheduled to arrive on AC at Terminal 1 at 10:20 am and my YYZ-ICN flight is on KAL at 12:20 pm from Terminal 3. Unfortunately the two legs are on different tickets but the good thing is that I have no checked-in baggage. Does 2 hours seem like enough connection time? Also, do I have to go through Canadian immigration to connect through YYZ? THanks!

Yes you'll have to clear CBSA. 2 hours should be enough time as it'll be an off peak time at the airport. Follow the purple connection signs to T3 (C gates). The train runs every few minutes. Check in online for the KAL flight to avoid missing the cutoff.
