If flying out of Pearson to 'anywhere' can you go thru security in a terminal that's not so busy then somehow get to another terminal without having to go thru security again?

No, you need to use the terminal your flight is departing from.

  • Connecting flight time from Cancun to Wpg
    Apr 26, 2016
My first international trip and my first time with a connecting flight. On my return flight I land in Pearson at 9:30 pm (from Cancun) and my flight to Wpg leaves at 10:50 pm. Booked with WestJet. I have a checked bag. Will I be ok to get through customs and make my connecting flight?

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • US to Canada connection, AC - No luggage pickup
    May 12, 2016
Yesterday, as I arrived in YYZ from MCO with a connection to YQM, I was suprised to find out that I not longer had to pick up my bag at the luggage caroussel and load it back onto the conveyor belt upon leaving the customs area. This new, simplified way of doing things started two months ago according to the AC employee I talked to in the luggage area. Why do AC's website and Pearson's website not reflect those important changes? Many passengers stood by the luggage caroussel waiting for their luggage only to find out they had been sent directly to their final (Canadian) destination. This is GREAT, but it would be nice to know. Any insights?

I'm waiting to deplane at YVR and am hoping my experience is to be like yours was. Waited in pre customs baggage claim, no bag. Baggage agent told me it was checked through from LGA to YVR and to go to customs. Customs didn't blink. YYZ staff told me to check my bags. AC gate agent said my bag was checked through. AC twitter says "we didn't know about this change at all". I guess I'll find out in 40 minutes or so if my bags are still at YYZ.

My bags were checked through, in the end. Apparently, AC staff are afraid of making announcements for fear of confusing other travellers, so they don't make any announcements. Thus, if you don't know or aren't told, you get to worry for hours that your bags are MIA. Mine arrived despite it all.

  • Where do I go for connecting flights
    Apr 24, 2016
I am arriving in YYZ from YHZ and have a connecting flight to MCO. I have 1 hour and 15 minutes to do this. Do I need to get my luggage and go through customs and then through security again before boarding for MCO, and where do I go?

After you arrive in Toronto follow the signs for US departures and just follow the instructions there. You should have enough time.

Thank you! It's our 1st international flight and we're worried about time.

  • Will I make the connection?
    Apr 24, 2016
I'm flying from LHR to HAV, with a connection in YYZ. Both flights in/out of terminal 1, and both with Air Canada. Connection is 1hr15 - do you think this is realistic? Will my bag be transferred as same carrieror will I need to take through security again? Thanks

That should be enough time. You should not have to claim your bag.

  • AC to KE
    Apr 23, 2016
travelling from YQB to YYZ (AC) and then YYZ-ICN (KE), tickets were bought separately. I get that we have to change Terminal, Korean Air lines seems to need to see our credit card to confirm our valid E-ticket. Do we have to do that in terminal 1 or in terminal 3 ? Also do we need to pick our luggage before changing terminals?

Yes, you will need to claim your baggage from Terminal 1 take it to Terminal 3, re-check it and they will check your credit card then.

Thank you for your quick answer, it's really appreciated !

  • Layover
    Apr 21, 2016
Hi one of my friend is travelling from newfoundland to amsterdam and she came on a scholariship only for six months, however she has a layover at Toronto for 3 hours, can she pass the security and come meet me at the terminal?

Yes, she can leave security to go see you, then go back through security before her flight to Amsterdam

  • 3.5-hour layover - meeting someone in airport
    Apr 19, 2016
I'm flying Air Canada from Edmonton to Orlando with a 3.5-hour layover in Toronto. I'm checked in (along with my luggage) to my destination. Is there enough time for me to exit and meet someone on the other side of security? Do I need to pick up my luggage?

There's a little time. However, the connection is built for you to head straight for US Immigration preclearance after you arrive in Toronto.

Hi, will be arriving in Pearson at 8am from Halifax, connecting flight to Punta Cana leaves at 9 am, do we have to go through screening again? thanks

No, as long as both flights are on the same airline all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • T1 to T3 2 hours
    Apr 18, 2016
I am flying in from Sault ste. Marie (YAM) to YYZ, then flying from YYZ to Amsterdam (AMS) I land in terminal 1 and fly out of terminal 3, will 2 hours be enough time? Also do I collect my bags? Where do I go through customs? Thank you

There is no Canadian customs when exiting Canada. Are your reservations on one ticket or two separate tickets? What airlines are you flying?

Our reservations are on one ticket through Expedia we are flying air canada and KLM. Do you there is enough time? Thank you

You won't have to claim your bags. I think you have just enough time. You will have to go through security again.

    Thank you

  • US Customs
    Apr 14, 2016
I am flying into Toronto (terminal 3) from Canada for a connection to the US. I know that I have to collect my bag prior to proceeding through customs, etc. My question is, I have a friend arriving to this terminal 40 mins after me from another flight (also going to the US), and would like to wait for her before going through this process. Is it possible to wait (after picking up my luggage) to do this? We will have about a 4 hour layover total.

Yes, considering your long layover you may not even be allowed into the preclearance area until closer to your flight.

  • T3 International to T3 Domestic
    Apr 13, 2016
I arrive at T3 from the Caribbean (Caribbean Airlines) at 7:10pm and connecting to T3 domestic (Westjet) for 8pm departure. I have 45min for my connection And only carry on bags. Do I have to go through security? Do I have enough time?

Yes, you will have to go through Canadian immigration, customs, and security. WHile I won't say it's impossible, it's pretty close to it.

Briitish citizen flying DCA - YYZ terminal 3 then terminal 3 YYZ -LHR 1st leg Air Wisconsin 2nd leg BA Will I have to retrieve my luggage in Toronto? Is Terminal 3 big? and I read that the new ETA for passing through YYZ isn't needed until 'the fall' ? Thank you for any help offered

I believe you will have to claim your baggage as I believe Terminal 3 isn't set up for international to international connections in the same way as Terminal 1 is. Terminal 3 isn't that large.

traveling from Chicago O'Hare Int. to Halifax NS with layover in Toronto, do we have to collect our luggage and go though customs if so how do we then recheck our luggage

In Toronto you will go through Canadian immigration, claim your bags, go through customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk immediately after, and then go through security and to your departure gate.
