  • Connecting from Laguardia to Halifax
    Aug 16, 2016
I am flying from LaGuardia to Toronto Pearson 3 on WestJet, then taking a connecting WestJet flight from Terminal 3 to Halifax. I will have checked luggage. Is 1.5 hrs enough time to allow to making the connection? Will I have to recheck bags?

Yes, that should be enough time. Yes, I believe in T3 you still have to claim and re-check your bags, although the photo bag identification system they have in T1 may be installed by now.

We're flying from New York into Pearson airport Toronto terminal 1 and land at 6.30pm flying with Air Canada. However we then need to get to terminal 3 same airport to catch flight back to Gatwick Airport UK at 10.05pm. But gates close at 9.05pm. Will we have enough time to make the flight from terminal 3 taking into account getting off the plane, collecting bags and getting to terminal 3 from terminal 1..

That should be enough time if your flight from New York is on-time.

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • Passport control for connections?
    Aug 8, 2016
I'm traveling from Boston to London Heathrow with a connection in Toronto. Will I need to reclaim baggage and go through passport control in Toronto before getting my connection? My layover is only 1.5 hours

No, you don't have to do anything with your bags in Toronto - just go through Canadian passport control and to your departure gate.

Any idea how long it takes to get through? Is it streamlined for US citizens?

Yes, it's a brief process. Should take less than 10 minutes.

  • Philly to Toronto to Calgary

Flying Air Canada Philly to Calgary with an hour and a half layover in Toronto. The reservations show the same terminal (T1) for both flights. We will have checked bags on the flight. Is that enough time for the layover? Will we need to pick up our bags in Toronto or are they automatically sent to our next flight? Will we have to go through customs or security upon arrival in Toronto, or not til Calgary? Thanks in advance. I've never been to Canada before and never had a layover!

In Toronto you will go through Canadian Immigration and customs. I believe there is now a system in place where passengers coming into T1 from the US and connecting identify their bags on a screen rather than have to claim and re-check them.

  • Do I have to collect my baggage when connecting ?
    Jul 27, 2016
I flew from Cuba to Ieland and the connection was through Toronto. I was told (by 3 people in the airport) that I did not have to claim my baggage at customs in Toronto as I was not staying in the country so when my luggage did not arrive at the conveyor, I moved straight through to my connecting gate. However, my luggage did not arrive in Dublin. Does anyone know if I should have claimed my baggage at customs in Toronto? I flew into terminal 1 and out of terminal 3 but my baggage was checked the whole way through to Dublin as it was 1 ticket, however, as it did not arrive ( and the airline is not being very useful) I am wondering if I should have claimed the luggage at customs in Toronto. Thanks.

  • YYZ to YOW | Immigration and Baggage claim
    Sep 7, 2016
Hey, I'd to travelling to Ottawa via Toronto via Air Canada(5AM) so I assume my immigration check would be at the port of entry i.e. YYZ. Do I need to claim my baggage after the immigration check or would be transferred to next flight ? My connecting flight is after approx 2 hours, would that be sufficient or I need to act fast as soon as I land to get to the customs first ? TIA.

Air Canada actually has kiosks that some passengers can use in Toronto to clear customs instead of claiming your bags. Check with the Air Canada and Canadian immigrations personnel when you arrive in Toronto. You should have enough time.

Just for future reference, I had to get the baggage from YYZ airport and put it on the belt for Air Canada flight tot YOW after customs check.

Good to know, I think the kiosks might just be for people coming from the US.

Hello, My family is travelling from Delhi to Nashville (BNA) through air canada with a 3.5 hrs stopover in toronto, they have flight from same terminal and on single PNR. Will they have to recheck-in thier luggage. Thanks

  • Do my checked bags go straight to connecting flight
    Jul 3, 2016
Hi I'm flying from Dublin to St. John's (2hr stop over) - St. John's - Toronto (1hr 12mins stop over) & then Toronto - Edmonton to visit my sister. She travelled the same way but said that I might not have enough time between flights to get backs and re check them. Can anyone please explain to me if I have to after each flight collect bag and re check in at departure terminal desk to put bags through or if as they are connecting flights they just go straight through? I have booked flights with west air and as far as I can tell I am flying with them all the way! Also I noticed Plus fare on their website (is this useful for baggage etc???) thanks everyone x

Sorry west jet I've booked with west jet not west air

You will go through Canadian Immigration and Customs in St. John's. You don't have to do anything with your bags in Toronto - just go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have enough time for both connections.

    Thank you so much

  • Where do I do customs, Ottawa or Toronto?

I'm flying from Ottawa to Denver on AC via YYZ; do I do customs pre-clearance in Ottawa or Toronto?

You will do it in Toronto.

  • Vancouver to Toronto to Austin. Can I make my connection?
    Jul 2, 2016
I'm flying from Vancouver to Toronto, then from Toronto to Austin both with Air Canada, and I have 1 hour and 15 minutes between these two flights. I assume that I'll have to clear customs in Toronto,. Do I have to go through security again? More importantly, will I have time to do all this and make my connection to Austin? I have a NEXUS card (and I'll only have carry-on luggage)

Yes, in Toronto you will head straight to US Immigration and Customs preclearance, with NEXUS you should have plenty of time.

Thanks for the quick reply. I appreciate it.

  • Collecting Baggage in Toronto for Customs before coming to Ottawa
    Jun 29, 2016
My Sister is coming from UAE with her two kids. Her port of entry is Toronto before reaching Ottawa. When I recently travelled from India to Ottawa via Toronto, I cleared the customs without collecting the baggages. Is this rule still exists? or she has to re-check in the luggages in Toronto?

What airlines is she flying? Are both tickets on the same reservation?

It's on the same reservation. and it's Air Canada flight.

Then yes, that is the same procedure she will follow.

  • Connection to India on air canada
    Jun 27, 2016
I am flying from Chicago to Toronto on Canada air with a 1 hour gap to catch another Canada air flight to India. It appears I have to go from terminal 1 to terminal 3 for my connection. Will I have to collect my bags and go back through customs ? Will I have enough time?

All Air Canada flights in Toronto are in the same terminal. There is no "Canada Air".
