What is an appropriate amount of time for transit between a US flight to YVR and YVR to an international flight for a foreign passport holder that need not visa entering Canada? Do passengers of one-ticket booking transfer flight need to clear Canadian passport control and collect luggage in transit?

The YVR website has a great guide that walks you through your personal connection based on answers you provide - http://www.yvr.ca/en/navigating-YVR/passenger-guides/connecting-through-YVR.aspx

  • Doubt regarding Immigration time at YVR

Hello, I am arriving in Canada on May 18 through Vancouver Airport. I have an Air Canada Flight arriving at YVR at 16:10 hrs and a connecting flight to prince George, BC at 19:45 hrs. Will the layover time be adequate for immigration, customs, baggage clearance and check in at domestic terminal? How long does it take on an average? Also, when leaving Canada, I have a flight form Prince George to YVR arriving at 10:55 hrs and then a flight from Vancouver to HK leaving at 13:00 hrs? Will this much time be enough for all the procedures? Please help.

Yes, that should be plenty of time when entering canada. Procedures shouldn't take more than an hour. There are no procedures when exiting Canada.

  • Flying from Hong Kong to Toronto via YVR

I am flying Air Canada from Hong Kong to Toronto via YVR with 1hr 20mins layover. Is that enough time to catch the connecting flight? Do I clear customs in YVR or Toronto? Will my luggage be automatically transferred to the Toronto fight?

You will clear Canadian Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. You will have to claim your baggage, go through Canadian Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security. You should have enough time, Vancouver is a small airport by international standards and even if you miss your connection Air Canada flies almost hourly flights from Vancouver to Toronto.

The problem is that : do we need to pay extra $ if we take next flight to Tor. Thanks

Hi in first week of march I will be flying from Toronto to YVR 10:10pm and my layover time is 1h 30m. to catch the next flight to Sydney via AirCanada. Is it good enough time? On my return a month later I will also have about 1h 25m layover at YVR to catch the flight to Toronto. I am little worried about the connection time. I will have checked baggage. What do you think please let me know. Thanks

Both ways that should be enough time. On the way to Sydney all you have to do in vancouver is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I have a friend from Calgary that is going to Vietnam. She has a layover in Vancouver on the way back (where I live) and I was wondering if I will be able to hang out with her in the airport during her layover as she waits for her flight to Calgary? So her flight will be international, Vietnam to Vancouver and then Domestic, Vancouver to Calgary

Once your friend arrives at YVR, she will need to pass the International Arrivals procedure and stay in the secured area. You can only see her there by getting a pass issued. Also note that Domestic & International terminals are only connected on level 2 at their unsecured areas. Airport contact: 604-207-7077 or e-mail http://www.yvr.ca/en/contact.asp.

I am flying direct from toronto to sydney with a stop in vancouver. Are you allowed to disembark the plane on this 1 hr and 40 min stop

Yes, as long as the flight is on-time you will likely be allowed to disembark.
