  • Will I make my next flight with my layover

I will be flying into YVR via Auckland and have and hour and a half to catch my next flight to Toronto. Will I have to collect my baggage at YVR, or will it go straight to YYZ. Will this be enough time to clear customs and get to my next flight? Thanks

Yes, you will have to claim your luggage to go through Canadian customs. Yes, that should be enough time.

  • HKG > YVR > YYC on 2 Separate Tickets

Hi, I'll be arriving at YVR by CX838 in May, arriving at 1325h. Am thinking of getting an Air Canada flight to YYC on the same day but it'll be two separate tickets. Question is what flight timing should I get to be safe? Am thinking of either the ones departing either at 1500h (may be tight), 1630h, 1730h or 1840h. Also, I'm a Star Alliance Gold member. Will there be showers at YVR domestic lounge for me to freshen up? Thanks!

I wouldn't consider one before 1630. The domestic Maple Leaf Lounge at YVR does have showers - http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelinfo/airport/maplelounges/locations.html

Thanks! So I guess 1630h is considered a safe option? Appreciate your help!

I am travelling from Montreal to Maui via Vancouver. Have a little over an hour for the connection. Will I have enough time and is there a terminal change?

Vancouver only has one terminal. You will go through US Immigration and customs preclearance in Vancouver. You should have enough time if everything is on the same reservation.

I'm flying with Air Canada from Calgary to London, ENglad with a connection in Vancouver. I'm assuming since both flights are with Air Canada my bags will be transferred for me and I won't have to check in, is that correct? My layover is only 65 minutes and I'm a little nervous that I could miss the second flight if anything goes wrong

Yes, all you have to do in Vancouver is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I will arrive from MANchester UK on Air Transat at 9:25 p.m. on 4 August. I would like to catch a flight on Air Canada Jazz to Penticton at 10:50 p.m. the same day. Is this connection possible? If so, how do I check my luggage?

You will have to go through Canadian Immigration, claim your baggage, go through customs, then take your bags to the Air Canada check-in desk to re-check your bags and then go through security. I personally don't think this is enough time, but it might be possible if everything went perfectly.

I arrive in Vancouver from Zurich on July 5 at 18:45. There is a domestic flight from Vancouver to Victoria at 20:00. Will I have enough time to make my flight? I have a Canadian passport.

    That should be enough time.

I will be travelling London-Edmonton-Vancouver-San Francisco on Westjet in July. There is a layover time of 1:50 at Vancouver. I will be travelling with hand luggage only. Is this enough time to make my connection to San Francisco?

Yes, that should be enough time. You will go through US Immigration and Customs preclearance in Vancouver, but that should be enough time.

    Thank you!

Hello! I am flying from calgary via Westjet to Vancouver and then flying international to Hong Kong. Am I correct in saying that I only need to arrive 1 hour before my flight leaves from Calgary, and then at Vancouver I pass through customs for leaving on my international flight? Thanks

There will be no Customs in Vancouver. You will just have to claim your bags from Westjet and bring them to your second airline if the tickets are on two separate reservations. Then you will go through security.

So I'm flying on one ticket seattle-vancouver and then a separate ticket vancouver-paris. Will I go through canadian customs and will my passport be stamped?

Yes, you will go through Canadian Immigration, claim your bags, go through Canadian Customs, then take your bags to the check-in desk of the airline taking you to Paris, then go through security and to your departure gate.

I'm arriving on an AA flight from LAX to fly an older relative back. I have booked to leave on the AA flight that arrives at 12.58pm. I'm then booked on the same flight coming back 30mins later. Will this pose any problems on transitting between two international flgiths in YVR?

Yes, that will be pretty much impossible. Because when you arrive in Vancouver you will have to arrive, go through Canadian immigration and customs, then meet your relative, go through US Immigration and Customs preclearance and security. I don't see how you can do all that in 30 minutes.

We have a Saturday am flight booked with Air Canada, we arrive in Vancouver from Victoria at 7:25 am and our flight to Kona leaves at 8:45 am. We are travelling with a 3 and a 5 year old. Is 1 hour and 20 minutes realistically enough time to get luggage, clear US customs and get to the second flight or will this be a tough connection to make?

    That should be enough time.

I have Canadian transit visa. Do I need to collect bags in YVR and re-check with Lufthansa or can Alaska check-in to the final destination? Also does any one know if Alaska will honor Lufthansa baggage allowance? Tickets will be two separate ones. Thanks!

Since you are on two separate tickets you will have to pay to check your bags with Alaska, go through Canadian immigration, claim your bags, go through customs then take them to the Lufthansa check-in desk and go through security.

Thanks Zap, Alaska on their site mentions "When making international connections on a separate ticket to other airlines within twelve (12) hours of arriving in the connection city, you may follow the baggage allowance and weight restrictions of the international airline - provided a ticketing and baggage agreement is in place between Alaska Airlines and the other carrier." Not sure, if this qualifies for free baggage allowance of Lufthansa connection in YVR

My son lands at 16:00 on Air Canada and has to make connection to Kelowna (YLW) at 17:40 Air Canada Jazz is this enough time or there likely to be an issue

That should be enough time even if the first flight is international.

I am landing in YVR from Australia on United then connecting to Toronto. I have 1.5 hours between flights. Is this enough to clear customs and check in?

United doesn't fly from Australia to Vancouver. Both flights will be on Air Canada. That should be enough time for your connection.
