  • Seattle to Shanghai connections time
    Jun 13, 2013

My wife is arriving from Seattle to YVR on Alaska Airlines at 11:33 (Gate E94). She has a connection with China Eastern Airlines leaving at 1:20 (Gate D67). She can get a boarding pass at the gate for China Eastern. She has no checked baggage, just carry on. She must be at gate D67 by 12:40. Does she have enough time? She must go through (Canadian?) customs. Can she stay inside and go straight to the gate? Or does she need to go outside security, get a boarding pass and come back in (in which case I do not think she can make it.) This is happening tomorrow, June 13.

Yes, I think she will have to go through Canadian immigration. I don't think she will have enough time to do all that. She should try to get on an earlier flight.

Thanks ZAP! Yes, I think you are right. Because she does not have a boarding pass, she cannot stay inside security and go straight to the China Eastern gate. So, she will have to go outside security and back in. There is no way to do that in time. Everyone says it takes at least 2 hours. So, we found a way to get her ther early! Alaska has an option called "Same Day Confirmed". This lets you switch to an earlier flight to the same destination on the same day without changing or invalidating your ticket! She is using this option right now. Hope it works!

  • Victoria to Vancouver to Beijing

I'm flying from Victoria to Beijing and I'm connecting through Vancouver. The problem is I have one ticket for Victoria to Vancouver with Air Canada, and my Vancouver to Beijing flight with Air China is on another ticket. To make it clearer, they were accidentally booked separately. Will I have to leave domestic, check in, and go through security again?

Yes, you will probably have to leave the secure area as I don't know how else you'd get your Air China boarding pass. Perhaps if you can check in online and you don't have any checked bags you can stay in the secure area.

If I came from SEA by Horizon ariving YVR.If I had check trough NRT already having baggage claim tag but not having JL boarding pass. Can I go to the internal gate without leaving secure area, or just go to JL counter check-in at public area. Can I layover at night when arriving YVR before departure at daytime.

The JAL gate counter would probably be able to print your boarding pass for you. However, if you're talking about connecting in YVR, you will have to leave the secure area anyway after you clear Canadian immigration. I don't know what you mean with your "layover" question.

Thank You ZAP Layover I mean if i stay over night at the airport in public area.

As t staying overnight at YVR: Open http://www.sleepinginairports.net/northamerica/vancouver-airport.htm#.UYPdSEptaiA

    Thank You frmay

Are you sure you have to leave the secured area after Canadian immigration? What if you do not have any baggage? I heard if you have not baggage you can go straight to the gate. Please see my question above about "Seattle to Shanghai..." My wife is leaving soon!

  • Connecting to a US Flight

I am traveling to Anaheim, California and I arrive in Vancouver at 9:26 having to transfer to my next flight before it takes off at 11am. is that enough time and also will I need to go through baggae claim, Checkin-in, security and customs?

The nearest Airport to Anaheim is John Wayne Airport, 15 miles from its center. On arrival at Vancouver Airport go through US customs clearance before proceeding to your connecting gate. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/yvr, then click on 'Terminal Map' under QUICK LINKS and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • Connecting flight from Maui to PG

We're arriving from Maui into the Main Terminal at 7:15 a.m. Not sure if we'd have time to make an 8:30 a.m. flight to Prince George?

Vancouver Airport's International & Domestic Terminals are connected on level 2 in their unsecured areas, where you go through US Arrivals procedure: "If your flight originated outside of Canada or the US & you need to connect to a Canada destination, clear Canadian Customs. Do pick up your baggage immediately after passing Customs, which you then take to the connecting flight counter. Thereafter follow normal Canadian departures procedures & pass through security checkpoint A, and proceed to the west gates (A1-5 & B11-22). Your transfer time should be adequate.

I'm flying to england from YVR via toronto, pearson int'l airport... would 2 hours before flight time be enough time for me to go through security and stuff? thanks

Make sure your first airline transfers bags to your connecting airline, if using different ones - if not, claim your bag on arrival and check it in with your connecting airline. YYZ has two terminals T1 & T3. T1 has D gates D1-57 & F gates F36-82, T3 has A, B & C gates - A1-7, B7-22, C24-41. The automated Link train runs between both terminals. Your boarding pass & overhead screens on arrival will indicate flight & gate numbers. You have enough time.

i'm travelling to Germany via Toronto....reservation says terminal M. Is that domestic or international?

YVR does not have a Terminal M - If you are an internantional arrival at YVR, you arrive at International Terminal's level 2 and depart from level 3 at D gates 50-78. For details, including customs procedures, open www.ifly.com/yvr, click on "Terminal Map" and scroll down to the detailed text.

Air canada AC555 from LAX by ticket is to terminal 'M'. Where is it on layout map.looks like A.C. uses Domestic Term 'c'

At YVR, Air Canada uses the Domestic Terminal's Concourse C, which has gates C25-52.

I am picking up a client from arrivals. Where are the passenger pick up out side where he can wait until I get there so I don't have to park?

YVR does not have a cell phone lot and does not indicate passenger pickup area in front of either domestic or international terminals on their maps, which both of which are accessible on level 2, the Arrivals level. However, the 3-level Parkade in front of the terminals offers half-hour parking at $4.25, to be paid at the cashier. For more information contact http://www.yvr.ca/en/contact.asp or call (604) 207 7077.

  • connecting to US Flight

Arrive on WestJet to Vancouver terminal and connecting to Maui westjet also. Is 90 minutes long enough to get across terminal and thru US connections and board flight to maui. 8:00 a.m. flight.

At YVR, WestJet is listed as serving Concourse A (A gates) - which are in the Domestic Terminal. International Arrivals come in at the International Terminal, attached to the Domestic Terminal, with U.S. customs clearance facilities. I am not sure whether you need to go through customs before taking your Maui flight or only upon your return. However, 90 mins would be adequate for both instances.

Hi Daisy, If you're arriving to YVR from a Canadian destination (ex: Calgary), then you'll arrive in the Domestic Terminal as noted by wejul12. From there you'll head to the International Terminal where you'll need to clear US Customs before boarding your flight to Hawaii. Keep an eye out for signs pointing you toward US connections, or you can ask anyone of our staff in Green Coats or at the Customer Information Desk for assistance/information. 90 minutes is enough time. When returning from Hawaii, you will also clear Canadian Customs when you land in Vancouver before heading home. Have a great trip!

  • Connection Time

Flying in from New Zealand and transferring to a different airline does anyone know if two and a half hours will be enough time? Thanks for the help.

Hard to tell as you don't state layover airport & airlines you use. As a rule, all interntional arrivals at the U.S. (other than those from certain Canadian airports with U.S. pre-clearance), need to go through passport control, pick up bags, go through customs clearance and if continuing journey, re-check-in bags - In summer season that can take 40 to 50 mins. You need to inquire from your first airline whether they are willing to transfer bags to your connecting airline's flight - not all airlines do, in which case you would need to take your bag along to the connecting terminal to check it in with the next airline. I suggest you open ifly.com, add your connecting airport, then click on "Terminal Map" under QUICK LINKS - scroll down to the text where you can get terminal details & how to get around.

  • Transfer from US arrival to MNL (PAL)

When arriving from US (United 834) and transferring to PHIL AIRLINES (PR 117) to Manila, is it necessary to fetch and recheck luggage? Do both flights arrive/depart from D or E gates?

Vancouver Airport has U.S. customs clearance - saving you time at arrival at [Philadelphia Airport?] You can walk between Gates D & E inside security - no need to go through security check.

Will one and half hour be enough to process the transfer from YVR to YYZ(Toronto)?

You have enough time for YVR - YYZ transfer.

    Thanks for your answer.

  • US to Canada Transfer fr. YVR to Toronto

After finding the luggage and clear the custom, do we need take the luggage to the public hall to the connecting C gate? In another words, after claim luggage and clear the custom, do we need to recheck the luggage in before proceeding transfer gate?

YVR rules: If your flight originated in the US and you have to take connecting flight to an international destination you can (i) go to the special international connections customs counter, should your airline offer the option of automatic transfer of your luggage; or (ii) pick up your luggage from the carousel, follow international arrivals procedures and then US departures procedures – if your airline doesn't offer automatic transfer of your baggage. - If your connecting flight is by another airline, you need to make sure that your first airline will transfer bags.

Will one and half hour be enough to process the transfer from YVR to YYZ(Toronto)?

  • US to Int'l Transfer

I'm flying from the US with a transfer to an Int'l flight to Europe (United to AirCanada). Do I just go from one gate to the next in the Int'l terminal or do I need to clear customs with baggage?

    1. You arrive at YVR via United at the International Terminal, Concourse E (E gates) and will depart via AirCanada from the Domestic Terminal, Concourse C (C gates). 2. Both terminals are connected. 3. Passengers arriving from the United States: Upon arrival at Vancouver Airport, you go through Canadian Customs and check the illuminated display panels for your assigned carousel number, then proceed to the baggage claim area where you find baggage trolleys. Your airline representative can, at your request, also call for a porter. Before proceeding to the public hall, present your customs declaration card to CBSA border services, where you might be directed for further manual inspection or search, if deemed necessary. 4. Thereafter simply follow signs to your connecting C gate.
