Hi, I'm a Russia sitzen and I've a layover in Vancouver (flying from Honolulu to Amsterdam through Vancouver). Do I need a visa to make this layover?

Yes, you will go through Canadian Immigration and therefore need a Canadian transit visa.

Will I have to collect my baggage in Vancouver YVR from WJ1865 from Honolulu HNL connecting to WJ706 to Toronto YYZ or is the baggage passed through for final collection in Toronto?

You will have to claim your bags to go through Canadian customs.

Leaving Honolulu this Sunday April 12th at 10:30 PM HST on flight WJ1865 and connecting in Vancouver to WJ706 this weekend. Can you give me the directions from landing terminal to the departure terminal? Also do we have to pass through US Customs at Honolulu, and Canada Customs at Vancouver?

Vancouver only has one terminal. You will not go through US Customs as there is no such thing as US Exit customs. You will go through Canadian Immigration and Customs in Vancouver.

Will I have to get my baggage and go through Canada customs or is baggage passed right on to flight to Toronto?

You will need to claim your bags upon arrival in Vancouver, as it is your first port of arrival in Canada. Upon clearing Customs/Immigration, you will have to leave the US/International Terminal, and proceed to Domestic Departures, up one floor and on the other end of the terminal building. You will then check your bags for your onward flight to Toronto, and retrieve your boarding pass for that flight (if for some reason you don't already have it.)

  • From PDX to YVR than HKG

Traveling from Portland, OR to Hong Kong, 75 minutes layover than connect flight AC #007 to HK. Do I have to go through custom and enough time make the AC flight?

I believe YVR has a walkway from US arrivals to International departures that doesn't require you to go through Canadian immigration. However, you won't be able to use this if you purchased two separate tickets. In that case I suggest you get an earlier flight to Vancouver.

    Thank you!

  • Enough Layover Time?

This summer we are flying from PDX on AirCanada to Munich on Lufthansa through YVR with a 1h 40m layover. Will be need to go through customs, and is this enough time? Any information will be appreciated.

Yes, in Vancouver you will have to go through Canadian immigration. You should have enough time.

    Thank you!

As a follow up to the original question, the flight from PDX lands at Gate E95, and the Lufthansa flight should leave from Terminal D. According to the YVR terminal map, both of those terminals are after security. I will have already printed my Lufthansa boarding pass or have received it from check-in with Air Canada (if AC follows other airlines' practice of printing all boarding passes). In this case, will we still need to exit the "secure" area and go through immigration? Again, any information will be helpful. Thanks in advance

  • Connection times

Hi, we fly into vancover from toronto and then have 90 mins to get on phillipine air to manilla. Will thst be enough time to move from domestic to international and clear customs? Also, the ticket was bought together form a travel agent so will the bags be checked all the way from start to finish? And what happens if we miss the flight? Thx

You will not have to clear customs. All you have to do is walk to your departure gate. Yes, your bags should be transferred automatically. If you miss your flight due to a late inbound flight you will be rebooked on the Phillipine Air flight the next day. If there is no flight the next day you will probably be rerouted there through Japan.

  • New Immigrants Vancouver-Montreal

Hi! We are new immigrants from the Philippines and we will be landing in Vancouver to take our connecting flight to Montreal. The problem is we will be arriving at 15:15 and our plane for Montreal departs at 16:50 via Air Canada. Will there be enough time for us to go through customs and immigration and still catch our flight to Montreal or do we need to rebook our flight? It is our 1st time going to Canada and I would appreciate if you can shed some light on our problem. Best Regards!

    That should be enough time.

  • Arrive from Portland on Alaska Air going to Germany on Condor

Will have enough connection time with 1 hour 55 min, no checked bag, on a Sunday: to arrive from Portland on Alaska Air at 3:20, clear customs, get my Condor boarding pass and get to a flight to Germany departing at 5:15 (clear German customs also or just security?) Thank you!

You will only clear canadian customs in Vancouver. You should have enough time but it doesn't leave much to spare in case of delays.

  • Domestic transfer South Terminal to Main Terminal

I am booked on a flight from Bella Bella arriving at 16:10 in the South Terminal. I would like to take a 17:30 Air Canada flight to Toronto. Would I have enough time to collect my bag, take the shuttle, check-in (me and my bag) and get the 'plane?

That would probably barely be enough time.

Hi, I'm worried about my conncection time now. I have a flight that arrives in YVR at 16:11 but I have a flight to catch to HNL at 17:35.... DO you think I can make it? I heard it takes at least an hour to clear the US customs... please help if not I'll have to change my flight.. Thanks a lot!

    That should be enough time.

Ok Great. DO you know if its far to walk from my domestic arrival in yvr to Us departure border ? Thx so much.

YVR is not a terribly large airport.

Hi. I have the same flight and connections this week. Did you have enough time to catch the HNL flight? Also did you have to get your luggage again? Thanks in advance

I'm travelling from Toronto to Vancouver and then to Phoenix there is only 1hr and 5 min to connect, same carrier Air Canada and me and my buddy will have checked luggage. Can I make this connect?

Yes, that should be doable. You just have to follow signs for US departures, you will pre-clear US Immigration in Vancouver.
