Yes, that should be just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

Hello. Do I need to leave the secure area to get to US CBP for a connecting flight to the US? I'm arriving from Regina at 0710 and departing to SFO at 0840. Enough time? Thx

In Vancouver you will proceed directly to USCBP if your bags are tagged through to SFO. You have enough time.

  • Work Visa - YVR to LAX
    Oct 17, 2016
Hello. I have to fly tomorrow at 4pm. I am going down to the states to do work and will need to apply for the work visa once I get to the airport. I am an engineer applying under NAFTA with a nexus card. How early Should I get to the airport. I think 12pm but I am unsure if that will be enough

Yes, that should be enough time. Issuing a work visa shouldn't take more than 30 minutes, 60 tops if they're really backed up.

Is 2 3/4 hours enough time to connect LAX-YVR-HKG arriving in YVR on Westjet departing for Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific using separate tickets. Thanks for any help.

That will be difficult. You will have to go through Canadian immigration, claim your bags, re-check them with Cathay, and go through security. It's not impossible but it leaves no time to spare.

    Thanks, that helpful.

  • Duty free on transfer from international to domestic transfer in YVR
    Oct 9, 2016
Hello, I'm in the Osaka KIX airport flying to Vancouver YVR and transfering to Winnipeg YWG. I want to buy duty free alcohol here in the Osaka airport but will I be able to take it on to my next flight from YVR to YWG? Or do I have to go through security again in YVR and if so will I be able to bring it through security?

Yes, you can bring it with you. Canada is a lot simpler.

  • YQR to YVR TO SJC- Clearing US customs and immigration
    Oct 6, 2016
Hi, I am looking at a flight that lands in Vancouver from Regina and there is 1 hour and 11 minutes between the flight from Vancouver to San Jose,USA. I am a non US passport holder (no green card), work visa, so I'll have to go through immigration. Is the 1 hour and 11 minutes layover too short? I am planning on flying back on Jan 3rd 2017. I won't have nay checked in baggages, only carry on.

That should be just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

Yes, your bags will be waiting for you at US Immigration and Customs preclearance in Vancouver.

  • YYZ-YVR on WJ then AC standby to SYD
    Sep 21, 2016
Just wondering if I would have enough time to get my bag off a WJ flight arriving at 2215 then re-check in with AC on standby to SYD departing at 2345. I realise I have to go through security again as well. Would this be cutting it close? Not sure of size of YVR airport.

YVR isn't that big by International airport standards. If you can't check in online (usually on interline standby you can't), then you might have trouble making the check-in cutoff for the AC flight.

  • Customs times
    Sep 20, 2016
Hi there! I am flying from Tokyo to Vancouver on the 29th of Oct. My flight arrives at 9:35 AM. Would I have enough time to get through customs and catch a connecting flight to Nanaimo at 10:20 AM? I'm thinnking it's cutting it too close, but i'm hopeful. Thanks so much!

Yeah, I don't think that will be possible unless your flight from Tokyo arrives quite early.

  • How much time will I need to connect with flight to japan?
    Sep 18, 2016
I am connecting on a flight from Nanaimo to Tokyo and only have 2 hours. Is that enough time to get through customs?

There is no Canadian customs when leaving Canada. If both flights are on the same reservation all you have to do in Vancouver is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Connections between domestic and international flights
    Sep 16, 2016
I am flying from Victoria YYJ on Air Canada to Vancouver YVR. I need to connect to a United Airlines flight heading to Denver (DEN). Can I get from the domestic terminal to the international terminal without going out of the secured area? I am concerned about how long it will take.

Vancouver only has one Terminal. When you arrive in Vancouver you proceed directly to US Immigration and Customs preclearance.
