Hi, I am arriving at YVR from Beijing by AC030 at 1155 and will be catching a flight to las Vegas on AC1898 at 1325. I have a 1 hr and 30 minute layover in YVR to collect my bags and clear customs. Is this enough time? Do I need a visa from the Canada embassy?
What is your citizenship? In Vancouver you will proceed directly to US Immmigration and Customs preclearance.
Thanks for your response, I am a Chinese citizen.
It is enough time if I have 1 hr and 30 minute?
Yes, that should be enough time. Assuming you have a valid US Visa you can transit Vancouver without a Canadian transit visa.
Flying from Victoria AirCanada to Portugal. Very tight connection time at YVR (1 hour), can my checked bag be booked through at YYJ to my destination? How far do I have to go to my gate? I am a senior, can't run. ;-)
I see by the map it is a 20 minute walk. Time enough for walking. But I'm not clear if I have to claim bag and go through security. Thanks for any tips.
For others with this same question, I'm in the waiting area at YVR, my bag is checked right through to Lisbon and I have boarding passes for all sections. Easy.
Hello, I'm flying Westjet from YYC->YVR and then onto HKG with Cathay Pacific. This was all booked under one ticket with Cathay Pacific. Do I need to go through security again at YVR? Thanks for your help!
No, you do not have to go through security again in Vancouver. Just go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.
Hi! I will be flying Japan Airlines in Nov to Seattle with 1.5 hours transit in Vancouver. I'm not US citizen. Do i need visa for the layover in Vancouver and enough time to catch the connecting flight (Alaska Air) . I booked the flight all through from Japan Air, wondering if I will need to recheck my luggage in Vancouver. Thank you!
What country are you a citizen of? What is your final destination?
Indonesian. Final destination is Kansas city and i have valid US visa. Thank you!!
Since you are flying JAL, it is not an approved Transfer Without Visa (TWOV) airline and therefore you need a Canadian transit visa. If you were flying another Air Canada you could do this without a transit visa - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/twov/travellers.asp
Do i will need to take out my luggage and check them all in again for the connection flight to Seattle? I'm afraid I don't have enough time to do all that and pass through canadian customs and check in again. Is 1.5 hour enough? Many thanks!
Also, do I have to pass through canadian customs and pre US custom? I'm very worried about the tight time i have.. fyi. i booked my flight from jakarta-kansas city under one booking reference. Thanks again!
I believe you will still be able to go straight to US Immigration and Customs preclearance in Vancouver, just JAL won't let you on the plane in Tokyo without a Canadian transit visa.
Do you know usually that process will take me how long? Wondering if 1.5 hour is enough. Thanks so much you've been great help!!
Hi im a first time traveler to Korea INC..do i have to get a new boarding pass from vancouver to INC? And do i have to get my luggage and check it in again? Coz ill be changing planes..westjet-korean air..thanks for help!
You will likely have to get a new boarding pass from the Korean gate. It's possible that Westjet will be able to issue your Korean boarding pass if everything is on the same reservation, but unlikely.
Thanks! But do u have any idea if im going to check my luggage again? Or it will automatically transfered from westjet to korean air? Thank u!
If everything is on the same reservation you won't have to claim your bags.
I have organized for my Mum to fly over from SYD to PDX (Portland, OR) and she only has a 1hr 30min layover. Does she need to clear customs with her baggage, and will that be enough time to get her flight to PDX?
In Vancouver she will proceed directly to US Immigration and Customs Preclearance. She should have enough time.
My wife and I are from Sydney, flying from Toronto to Anchorage via Vancouver with a 2.5 hour layover. We have friends who live in Vancouver, would they be allowed to come into the terminal with us? (I know some airports are different) or how much time should we allow for security/customs if we have to go through it. Will we need to clear customs if we are domestically flying before our international?
No, they would not. You will go through US Immigration and Customs preclearance in Vancouver. You have plenty of time for your connection but not to meet your friends.
