I come on from Brussels on a United Airlines to IAD, with an onward connection to DFW. Am i required to retrieve my checked in luggage and go through security again for check in to anothe United Airlines flight to DFW? And how much time do i need? Its my first time in the US, and on a non-immigrant visa
Yes, in IAD you will arrive in the C/D concourse, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate, which will likely also be on the C/D concourse. 90 minutes is possible, but 2 hours is better.
Good afternoon, I booked a flight with Scandinavian from Amsterdam (layover in Copenhagen) arriving on the 5th of May at 15:00 in Dulles terminal 3. I have booked a separate ticket with United (mesa operating as United Express) to Austin departing at 17:20. How does the process work, I have to go through pasport control first, then pick up luggage, through customs, take the train to different terminal (which terminal is Mesa? and how long is the train ride) and then check in the luggage again? Do you think I have enough time for the transit? I am very scared I won't, hope someone could inform me., Thanks!
Dulles only has one terminal. You will arrive and be brought to the International Arrivals building where you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs. Then you will take your bags to the United check-in desk in the adjacent main terminal building and check them with United, then go through security and take the Aerotrain or mobile lounge to your departure gate in the C/D concourse. I think you will have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.
Thank you so much for your answer and explanation. I really appreciate it!
