  • Connecting to flight to Canada
    Oct 12, 2016
We are flying domestic from LAX to IAD, then connecting to a flight to Ottawa, Ontario. Where do we go through passport screening?

You will go through Canadian immigration and customs when you get to Ottawa. There is no US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US.

  • Enough connecting time?
    Sep 25, 2016
Flying into IAD (Washington) from SAV (Savannah) at 21:10 and then to YYZ (Toronto) at 22:18. Is that enough time (with checked luggage)?

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do in IAD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Cancun to Johannesburg via IAD, no luggage
    Jul 13, 2016
Hi there. I will be landing on United from Cancun at 16:20 and connecting onto South African Airways (SAA) to Johannesburg at 17:40. I do not have any checked luggage and will have my boarding pass for SAA already printed. Must I still go through customs/immigration control, or can I go directly to my SAA gate once I land in IAD? Will I have enough time? Thanks.

Have a flight from JFK to IAD arriving at 2:14pm on a Sunday (with JetBlue). I have an international flight departing later that day at 6:30pm (separate reservations). Is this enough time based on any likely delays etc to collect bags, exit Arrivals, go to Departures and check-in bags and go through security again? thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • DCA to IAD
    Jun 8, 2016
If my flight arrvies at DCA at 2:18 on a weekend. Will I have time to get my bags and comfortably make a 6:30 international flight out of IAD? Would a taxi or car service be the best way to make the connection?

Yes, that should be enough time on a weekend. A taxi or car service would be about the same.

  • Pre-clearance
    Jun 6, 2016
Flying on United from Narita, Tokyo to Dulles and then connecting to Harrisburg, PA. Layover is 3 hours 20 minutes so presumably that is more than enough time to clear immigration and customs, but by chance is there pre-clearance in Narita?

No, there is no preclearance at Narita. You have enough time.

  • Transit time in IAD
    Jun 6, 2016
I am flying to Washington Dulles from Singapore and then taking a connecting flight to New Orleans. It is United airlines throughout the trip. The transit time at 1 hour 50 mins, is it good enough with 1 checked in baggage?

There are no nonstop flights from Singapore to IAD - where are you stopping first?

  • Dublin to Dulles on United
    Mar 24, 2016
I have 48 minutes upon arrival from Dublin to catch my next flight with United. Is that even possible. Are the arrivals and departures on same course? Thanks for help

It depends where you're flying to. All United and some United Express flights are on concourse C/D. So if that's the case then all you have to do at IAD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate on C/D and it is possible. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Dublin.

  • USA transfer in Dulles to Internation
    Feb 25, 2016
We are flying from ATL to IAD on UA and connecting in IAD leaving for Rome also with UA. My concern is I will be flying from ATL to Dulles as domestic but will have to get through the international process with luggage, both carry on and checked. We have a 1 1/2 hr stop over. What is the process and what can I expect? Please help!

There is no "international process" when leaving the US. All you have to do in IAD on your way to Rome is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Flights taking off with snow at Dulles
    Jan 20, 2016
How many inches of snow tend to close the runways at Dulles? What's the guess for flights taking off Friday afternoon?

There's no way to predict it precisely. It depends on the how fast the snow is accumulating whether the airport crews are able to keep the runways clear or not. Also, it's likely that airlines will preemptively cancel flights in and out of DC if the weather looks to be quite bad.

  • Infrequent fliers coming from UK

thank you for rep[y. Is it also easy to check in and get to gate for flight home? At Heathrow Uk, I can get airport concierge service (for a payable fee) to assist for departures and arrivals, but cant seem to find this at Dulles. I was also looking for lounge but don't know which one I should book. They are flying Virgin Atlantic back to UK. thank you again.

There is no concierge service at Dulles that I am aware of. It is a very simple airport with only one terminal and Virgin Atlantic only operates a single daily flight there, so it's very simple when departing. Virgin Atlantic does have a lounge at IAD, but it is not available to economy class passengers - http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/us/en/travel-information/airport-guides/washington-dulles/experience-upper-class.html The only lounges that I can find at IAD that sell day passes are the United Clubs on the C and D concourse. The Virgin Atlantic flight will depart from concourse A. Perhaps they can do without going to a lounge.

OK. well thank you for taking the time to reply. I feel a bit easier now, I had a vision of them getting lost, never to be seen again.!!!!

hi, I am arranging a trip to Washington DC for 2 people who are not used to airports such as Dulles. Is it fairly easy to get through the airport system, are there staff around the airport airside to point the way for them. And how long does it take to get through from plane to arrivals hall. thank you.

If they are ending their trip at Dulles then they will be taken to the International Arrivals Building by a shuttle bus directly from their aircraft. it is literally impossible for them to get lost. They will probably be out of Customs 45-60 minutes after scheduled arrival.

thank you for your reply. And is it easy for checking in etc, and making way to gate on their way back home? I was looking for a lounge, but don't know which one it should be. They are flying Virgin Atlantic back to UK. UK Heathrow is so easy as can get concierge services to assist on departure and arrival, but cant find this for Dulles. thank you again.
