Hi, I will be arriving at Dulles from Tokyo @ 3:20pm, my next flight to boston is at 5:00pm that is 1hr and 40 mins to make my flight, do you think I will have enough time to make it if i only have a carry on with me. Last time I landed in Dulles I waited in the customs line for over 2 hours. Im concerned this will happen again.

What airlines are you flying and where are you flying to?

Hi, I have a layover at IAD with only 35mins available. Coming from SFO and taking CDG-Paris flight. Single United reservation. Is it enough time to change flights?

Please don't ask the same question twice.

on sunday (16 August) i'm flying from munich to dulles, arriving at 15:00. then i'm flying from dulles to atlanta departing at 16:55. both flights are from lufthansa (it says operated by united airlines on the e-ticket) and both are on the same ticket. is there enough time between flights? i'm really stressed i won't make it.

Yes, it should be enough time. Both flights are operated by United so check in with United, not Lufhtansa in Munich.

thank you so much for your response. i was really worried about the passport control as well as taking and giving my luggage again. last time i went to us, i was a direct flight to dulles and passport control took more than 1 hour.

  • Washington Mall/White House

My flight arrives from Frankfurt, Germany at 3:55pm with a 6 hr. layover. Flight leaves at 10:05pm. How can I get to the mall (Lincoln Memorial, etc.) and White House and what time should I head back? Thanks

The route from Dulles into the city requires you to take the Washington Flyer bus to the Reston station, then the Silver Line of the Metro into the city. It will take you about an hour each way, so you'll only get like 2 hours at the sights before you have to go back the airport.

  • 145 minutes layover
    Jun 9, 2015
Hi! I am flying from Cancun to Washington Dulles (United Airlines) where I will have a 2 hours 15 minutes layover, before flying to Munich (Lufhtansa), then Luxembourg. Will I have to pick back my luggage or is it sent directly to my final destination? Should those 145 minutes be sufficient to make the connection? I have a French passport and my flight arrives at 8:15 pm on thursday, then leaves at 10:30 pm. Thank you very much.

Yes, at Dulles you will go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, and re-check at your baggage at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

  • 70 Minute Layover

Hi. So Tuesday I will fly from GRR and will arrive at IAD at 4:09 pm. My next flight is an international flight to Amsterdam, leaving at 5:20 pm. They are both United Airlines but not bought as connected flights. Will I make it in time? And do I have to go through customs and check my suitcase in again at IAD?

You can show your second confirmation to the agent in Grand Rapids and they should be able to check your bags through to Amsterdam. You do not go through US Customs when leaving the US. You should have enough time if your bags are checked through.

  • Should I avoid checking in baggage
    May 31, 2015
Hi! I'm arriving from YUL on United at 9:10pm to IAD, I have 50 mins connect to a United flight to GRU. Since United is on the same concourse I'm okay for catching the flight but will checked baggage also have enough time to transfer or should I just bring carry-on? Thank you very much.

Checked baggage should be OK. However, the late flight from YUL to IAD frequently appears that it arrives at concourse A, so be prepared to hurry and take the train or Mobile lounge to concourse C where your GRU flight will depart. If you bring a carry-on you will just have to wait for it planeside in IAD because the plane has small overhead bins.

    Thanks for the answer!

  • ATL to RDU with Layover at IAD
    Apr 23, 2015
I am wondering if 40 minutes is enough connection time for a flight landing at IAD at 9:35pm and the next flight leaves at 10:15pm headed to RDU. We are not checking any bags and we are flying United Airlines. The first flight leaves from ATL if that helps and it is on a Saturday.

That is enough if the first flight is on-time. All United gates at IAD are connected inside security.

  • Layover in dulles
    Apr 20, 2015
Hi I have a flight from frankfurt germany and its final destination is newark airport but i have a 2 hr layover at dulles airport. All my flights are with United Airlines. Do i got through a security check point and have to pick up my checked luggage at dulles airport or is it going straight to newark since its all united airlines but different planes.

In Dulles you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.

  • Cancun to Frankfurt with layover at IAD
    Apr 6, 2015
I have a flight from Cancun that arrives at 8:15pm with 1hr 35 min layover before my flight to Frankfurt, Germany. Is this enough time to go through customs and then go through the security line again to make my flight to Frankfurt?

  • Enough time Cancun to Frankfurt
    Apr 6, 2015
I am flying to Frankfurt from Cancun with a layover at IAD. My layover is 1hr 35 min. Is this enough time to make it through customs and to my flight to Frankfurt?

Assuming your tickets were purchased together that should be enough time.

  • Connection time
    Mar 17, 2015
I will be flying from YUL to IAD and then HNL. The connection time at IAD is 1h10. Will it be enough? I have checked-in bags. Do I have to claim bags and re-check it. Do I have to go trough immigration?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Montreal. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. you have enough time.

  • Checked or not checked?

Hi! On June 11 I'll be flying from Toronto to Glasgow, making a stop at IAD (from Toronto United 3630 operated by Gojet Airlines DBA United Express) with a 1 hour and 7 min layover before I connect (with United 100) to go to Manchester (then Loganair to Glasgow)...will 1 hour 7 min be enough time in IAD? Do I need to re-check my luggage/will it automatically be put onto my next flight? Or should I try to pack with just a carry-on?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. In IAD you only have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which will both be on the C/D concourse. You have enough time.

  • International Inbound/Outbound to Domestic

    GSP-IAD land @ 9.20PM IAD-DXB 10.15PM... No check in 55m layover will that be enough? KWI-IAD land @ 6.50AM IAD-GSP 8.19AM... 1 check in, will 1hr 29m be enough to finish immigration & collect checked in luggage?

    Both layovers should be sufficient.

  • Enough layover time? 15.45 - 18.30
    Jan 21, 2015
I don't know which terminal/concourse it is. I'm arriving from Narita Japan (United Airlines) at 15.45. and my connecting flight is at 18.30 to Columbus Ohio (United Airlines but operated by Trans States Airlines DBA United Express. Would they be in the same concourse. and would this time be enough?

Sorry messed the time up. It's arriving at 15.45 And depart at 17.30.

You will arrive in Concourse C, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk and go through security. You will then be on the departure level of concourse C. Your flight to Columbus will likely depart from concourse A. It is connected to C by the Aerotrain and mobile lounge. Just follow the signs.
