Arriving from manchester uk going through IAD to EWR.united gives me 1hr 48mins.(took over an hour to clear customs at EWR in January) with cuts to tsa staff at immigration what are my chances when the gate closes well before take off time.

That should be enough time. IAD isn't quite as bad as EWR. Also there's a lot of IAD-EWR flights so if you miss one then you'll just be re-booked on the next one.

  • 40 minutes Connection time

Hi, I will arrive from Dayton, Ohio on the 28th Dec at 11.33am on United Express UA 5766. Then , I will have to catch a connecting flight to Singapore on UA 803 AT 12.20pm. I have only 40 minutes to go to my next flight. Can you tell me which terminals will I be using and advise me on the best way to go to the UA international terminal.Thank you.

Can's tell you ahead of time which gate you arrive at & depart from at IAD - United uses Midfield Concourses A, B, C & D with corresponding gates. On arrival, look at overhead screens to find your connecting flight and gate number; follow signs TO BAGGAGE CLAIM/ GROUND TRANSPORTATION - domestic arrivals at A, B or C gates should follow the AeroTrain sign. The train runs continuously from the main terminal to the center of each of the 3 midfield concourses A/B & C/D; D gates, however, are not served by the train, but by a shuttle bus departing at Main Terminal & A gates (at A6) and arriving between D15-21 & D9-11. Also C gates C1-30 are connected by walkway to D gates D1-32. Either way, 40 mins transfer time will suffice. For more information, open - then click on 'Terminal Map' under QUICK LINKS and scroll down to the detailed text.

    Thank you for the information.

We are flying in around 12 noon on Christmas Day. Are there any places to eat that are nice? Or are they all closed.

Hi , am arriving by virgin VS21 from Heathrow at 15.10 hrs on 15 th dec by business class.have to catch united UA 419 to orlando at 17.35 . pl guide on way to domestic terminal and whether 145 mins are enough--i have a family including my mom who will be on wheel chair(she is 81 years old--we are on a vacation

1.The first thing you will need to do is contact Virgin of any special needs your mother may have, including wheelchair. If bringing along her own wheelchair also ask about their policy getting it on the plane. Furthermore, ask if Virgin will transfer bags to United - if not, you would have to check bags in at the UA counter prior to continuing to your next flight. 2. As international arrivals in the U.S., you & your family will need to go through passport check, pick up bags, and go through customs clearance; then re-check-in bags where indicated. 3. You arrive at Virgin Atlantic at Concourse A and need to transfer to the United flight at either Concourses A, B or C (domestic United gates). On arrival you will board the shuttle to US Customs, and take the shuttle thereafter to your departing concourse & gate. You have enough time. (look at your ticket and on arrival at overhead screens to find your connecting concourse & gate.

i will be arriving from Charlotte, NC with United Express@ 1131 am. how do i get to UA international gates? i only have 1 hr 49 min to catch my flight to Tokyo. Please advise on the fastest way to get to my gate.

You will arrive at IAD at either of the domestic Midfield Conourses A - C and will depart from international Concourse C. Note that C gates C1-30 & D gates D1-32 are connected by a walkway, and a shuttle takes you from gate A6 arriving between D gates 15-21 & 9-11. (D gates cannot be accessed by train). You have plenty of time.

  • Connection to SAS Flt to Copenhagen
    Aug 28, 2012
I arrive on UA FLT 3420 at Gate C24 at 3:08 PM how and where do I go to make a connection to SAS Flt 926 departing at 5:15 PM for Copenhagen, DK Thanks

On arrival at IAD, follow signs 'TO BAGGAGE CLAIM / GROUND TRANSPORTATION'; domestic arrivals at A, B or C gates should follow the AeroTrain sign; - Your departure is in Concourse B (gates B35-79).

  • Will I make this flight?
    Jun 25, 2012
I am scheduled to get arrive from Syracuse at 21;00 (assuming no delays) and get my connecting flight to Manchester England at 22:16. I am disabled and can only walk slowly and am worried I will not make my Manchester flight...any advice is most welcome.

    1. Dulles Airport is not easy to get around. Its Main Terminal has connected Z gates. Thereafter the Midfield concourses follow as three separate buildings divided by A & B gates, C & D gates, and (gates under construction). Only A, B & C gates are connected by underground Aero Train, while D gates are served by shuttle bus near gate A6. Your ticket should indicate which gates you arrive at/ depart from, i.e., A6, B63, C14, D29 - also look on arrival at overhead screens for your departing flight number, gate & time. 2. Follow signs 'TO BAGGAGE CLAIM / GROUND TRANSPORTATION'; domestic arrivals at A, B or C gates should follow the AeroTrain sign. The train runs in a continuous loop from main terminal's post-security area at the center of the midfield concourses A/B & C/D and takes only minutes. Mobile lounge shuttle takes you to gates D1-32. If you feel that you need wheelchair assistance - contact your airline, or your flight attendant. You have enough time though to get on your own from gate to gate. Good luck!

  • Changing terminals
    Jun 20, 2012
Hi I would like to meet my dearest friend in IAD. He is travelling from charlotte to Doha and there is connecting flight in IAD. I am planning to travel from Boston to IAD. Can I meet him at inside IAD. My question is Let say my friend arrived to D terminal and I arrived to A terminal. Will there be any security check in IAD when changing from one terminal to another terminal. Please provide me information on this.

Your & your friend's arrival at IAD depends on the Airline you take. The Main terminal - at its non-secured areas (Arrival, parts of Departure levels) is the only place you both can meet. Arrivals or departures are in either Z, A, B, C & D Concourses. Arriving passengers: Follow signs 'TO BAGGAGE CLAIM / GROUND TRANSPORTATION'; domestic arrivals at A, B or C gates should follow the AeroTrain sign. Near Ground Transportation is an Information counter where you may want to meet. Thereafter, if your connecting gates are either A or B you can walk to that concourse, or takethe underground Aerotrain to Concourses/gates A1-32, B35-79 & C1-30. For D gates you need to take a shuttle. For detailed information, open & click on "Terminal Map" under QUICK LINKS, scroll down to the description. If your friend uses Qatar on flight to Doha, I see a listing as being in the Main Terminal.

  • Transit Time

Hello. I reach Wasington Dulles Airport at 1500hrs and have a connection to Las Vegas on United at 2030hrs. Will I have enough time to take a taxi to downtown for an hour and come back again in time for the United flight, considering my bags would be through checked in from my International departure airport?

    1. IAD is 26 miles from Washington center. Arriving domestic flights and flights from airports with U.S. border preclearance are serviced directly at the concourses, while flights arriving from any other airport are processed through the International Arrivals Building (IAB). (If you are an international arrival, that process would take you 35-50 mins. 2. During the busiest airport hours of 5:30am - 8am, 11am - 1pm, and 3:30pm - 5:30pm, it is advisable to arrive at the Main Terminal no later than two hours prior to scheduled domestic flights and three hours for international flights. 3. United serves Concourses A through D with corresponding gates (i.e., B35). I would not advise you to leave the Airport. To familiarize yourself with layout and transfer options, open and click on "Quick Links" - "Terminal Map"; under the map are details and how to get around.

Hi there. I am arriving on a United Airlines flight from Boston arriving at 16h04 and have to connect to a SAA flight departing at 17h40.Is this enough time?

While United uses at IAD Midfield Concourses A, B, C & D (look at your ticked for your gate number - i.e., A32) while South African Airways uses Concourse B. While you can walk between Concourses A & B, you need to take the AeroTrain to C gates. D gates are only served by shuttle (mainly used for arrivals). As arriving passenger, follow signs "to Baggage claim / Ground Transportation" - then domestic arrivals at A, B or C gates should follow AeroTrain sign. You have enough time.
